Thats the question that many are thinking and its something the Wizards may have to wait and see next month. Caron Butler has carried this team thus far and is finally on his way to stardom, but Arenas' return will put him back into his old role. Caron's numbers are at its best so far in his career averaging 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. He's starting to look like a guy that he was compared to before he was drafted...Paul Pierce. Arenas dominates the ball and will take shots away from Caron. This team is 22-17 so far and its all Caron with help from Jamison. This team should be built around the core of Butler and Blatche. Jamison will be a unrestricted free agent in the summer and will most likely be leaving the Wizards to join a championship caliber team. So what can they do with Arenas? They do need a pure point guard, a reliable center, and a solid 2 guard. Gilbert is a great player, but this team doesn't need him and they shouldn't pay a guy $17M a year if he doesn't make you're team that much better. What moves can they make?
Seems like in the somewhat short term the team has played better overall team basketball, but I would think when it comes to playoff hopes, having Gilbert would help more. But they've definitely played well enough for a long time now to make a clear statement that they can play great total team bball without him
WITH arenas they're better
Look at last year up to the allstar break, full healthy roster WITH ARENAS
some were considering him for MVP last season , and weren't they second in the Easton, Eddie Jordan was elected as the east all-star coach
and now they start off 0-5 without Gilbert, Turn it around with the other 2 stars on the team, and everyone else contributing, and now all of a sudden they dont need him???
Celtics have won a couple games without KG, does that now mean they don't need him , yes they've played well, but in the long haul he will be missed
