Default Offseason Plan V1.0:

It's early..but who cares!

End of Season Roster, Salary and Status:
Cuttino Mobley: $9,100,000
Chris Kaman: $9,500,000
Tim Thomas: $6,049,400
Brevin Knight: $2,000,000
Al Thornton: $1,776,240
Total Salary:$28,425,640
Free Agents:
Elton Brand: $16,440,000(ETO)
Corey Maggette: $8,400,000(ETO)
Shaun Livingston: $5,809,705(QO){Restricted}
Josh Powell: $900,000(Team Option){Unrestricted}
Paul Davis: Restricted
Nick Fazekas: Restricted
Quinton Ross: Unrestricted
Smush Parker: Unrestricted
Aaron Williams: Unrestricted
Dan Dickau: Unrestricted
Andre Barrett: Unrestricted
Other Tradeable Assets:
Our own first and second for 08,09,2010. Rights to Sofoklis and Minnesota Top 10 protected{until 2010] First Rounder

Step One: Our Own Free Agents
Elton Brand picks up his player option. Clippers pick up the team option for Josh Powell. Livingston agrees to a 2 year/4.6 million dollar extension. Maggette opts out and becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent, but we still have his bird rights. Everyone else stays in the Free Agency Pool. Our salary amount goes too about 47 mil.

Step Two: Draft Lottery & Draft
According to RealGM's Lottery Simulator..the Los Angeles Clippers gain the #2 overall selection in the 2008 NBA draft.
David Stern - "With the 2nd Pick in the 2008 NBA Draft..the Los Angeles Clippers select Guard Derrick Rose from the University of Memphis"
David Stern - "With the 36th Pick in the 2008 NBA Draft..the Los Angeles Clippers select Forward Devon Hardin from California."

Step Three: Off Season Moves{Trades, Free Agency, Etc.}
  • Clippers Sign And Trade G/F Corey Maggette to the Orlando Magic for Tony Battie, JJ Reddick, rights to Darrell Arthur, rights to Goran Dragic and 2009 2nd Round Selection
  • Clippers sign Rookies Derrick Rose and Darrell Arthur
  • Clippers trade F Tim Thomas to T'Wolves for G/F Marko Jaric
  • Clippers sign G/F Quinton Ross to 3 Year Extension Valued at 11.5 Mil)
  • Clippers sign C DeSagna Diop to Portion of MLE for 1 Year
  • Clippers extend training camp invites too Sean Singletary, James Gist, Derrick Lowe, Josh Shipp, Elton Brown, Nick Fazekas and Dan Dickau
  • Clippers sign G/F Gordan Gircek to 2 Year Bi-Annual Exception Contract

Final Roster:
CE: Chris Kaman(9.5 Mil), DeSagna Diop(MLE), Tony Battie(5.7 Mil)
PF: Elton Brand(16.4 Mil), Darrell Arthur(1.2 Mil), Josh Powell(900k)
SF: Al Thornton(1.8 Mil), Quinton Ross(3.5 Mil), Gordan Giricek(LLE)
SG: Cuttino Mobley(9.1 Mil), Marko Jaric(6.5 Mil), JJ Redick(2.1 Mil)
PG: Derrick Rose(4.5 Mil), Brevin Knight(2.2 Mil), Shaun Livingston(2.2 Mil)
Rights to: Devon Hardin, Goran Dragic, Sofoklis S.

We might not deal for Arenas in this, we may not get what some of us think would be solid enough for Corey, but I think we build a nice all around team. Hardin will be playing with the Arsenal as we never ink him, so we can keep his rights. Dragic and Sofo stay overseas. Let me break it down by position:

Center: We all know Chris Kaman but Diop would be a very nice defensive C for us to throw against Shaq, Amare, Yao etc. if Kaman goes into foul trouble. Battie is a solid veteran presence and expires in two years along with Mobley giving us some flexibility.

Power Forward: We all know about Elton and Powell might not make it past our training camp invite, but at 900k, I say we have to invite to see what he has. Arthur is a solid option who gets 13/6 with the Jayhawks. I think he could end up as a very solid role player and who better to learn from then Elton?

Small Forward: We trade Maggette to open up playing time for Al Thornton. Juice immediately becomes our option on the perimeter to go and score. Ross we all know and Giricek is a hell of a veteran experience and can knock down a trey. Is also a solid defender.

Shooting Guard: Mobley is one hell of a vet, which we all know. We bring back Marko who was a solid player for us. One tough defender, can handle the ball and has an inconsistent jumper. Never in the game in clutch situations though. JJ was a sharpshooter in college, let's see if he can regain that with a change of scenary.

Point Guard: We get who we all want..Derrick Rose! Brevin is a solid backup and we give Livingston 2 seasons to see if he can ever recover and become a solid player

At this point, there are 5 teams with a worst record than the Clippers (Miami, Seattle, Minnesota, New York and Memphis), so I don't think they'll be getting the second pick of the draft. They'll be looking at 5 or 6. Rose and Bayless will be long gone by then. Unless they can trade up, Rose may not in the picture.

I read it and can probably read better than you. RealGM Lottery Simulator huh? How many times did you have to refresh before the Clips got the 2nd pick? About 20 times?

I did it once...and after I did it, I played around with it and we ended up with the #1 pick multiple times, along with 2 and 3. Don't remember how much, but I most likely did it 25 times for the hell of it, got in the top 3 about 17 times. So you fail right here just like you probably do at life.

Cool thing about this draft is that if we can't get Rose, Eric Gordan is a good backup plan.
