Default IU's new coach/Different Team

IU just hired Marquette's Tom Crean as its next head coach. I think this is a good move. Here's the link:

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dl...S0601/80401054

Also, this hiring comes right after interim coach Dan Dakich kicked JaMarcus Ellis and Armon Bassett off the team. Here is the link for that story:

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dl...42/1247/SPORTS

Does anyone know how the dismissal of Ellis and Bassett would hold up after Dakich is replaced? According to this article, they missed a meeting, and then were to be punished the next morning by running. They were also told that they would be kicked off if they didn't show up. Obviously they have no dedication to this program. I will look for them to transfer sometime in the next month or two.

Does anyone know how a dismissal would hold up during a coaching change? Also, what do you guys think about this hiring?

yeah, apparently Ellis and Bassett would've been dismissed no matter who was the coach.

and even if a coach dismissed players wouldn't the new coach just be able to reinstate them?

that's what i thought, but i think dakich might still remain on staff, unless the university lets him go or the new coach decides on a different staff, and if crean decides to reinstate them, it would pretty much be a slap in the face of dakich's decision, and thus lead to further turmoil down in bloomington

crean's a good coach that could get the team back to a respectable squad in a couple years.not that they werent this year but they're losing their whole starting lineup.why would dakich kick players off the team knowing he would be replaced in only a couple days.indiana said they would have a new coach before the final 4.just dumb

From what I heard both were apart of the group of players who would've possibly sat out due to Kelvin Sampson's resignation.

They were likely to have transferred anyways but they were dismissed because they personally chose not to attend Dakich's team meeting with players who were committed to playing for Indiana rather than those who were still disgruntled over Kelvin Sampson.

In a funny ironic situation its quite possibly Bassett could be reinstated because he does have a good relationship with Tom Crean but thats just a possibility.

Indiana's leading returning scorer next season is Deandre Thomas who averaged about 3.5 PPG

Indiana's 2008 recruiting class completely fell apart with their top two recruits both being granted unconditional releases from their LOI.

Devin Ebanks will probably wind up at Rutgers or Memphis while Terrell Holloway is now wide open in his recruitment.
Indiana's 2008-2009 starting lineup:
PG-Tyshawn Taylor(I am not fully sure if he'd academically qualify at IU)
SG-Matt Roth
SF-Brandon McGee
PF-Deandre Thomas
C-Tom Pritchard

Its always possible Ebanks and Holloway both could return but even then this team is not capable of reaching a NCAA Tournament next season.

^^Yeah Indiana and Kansas will both be very embarassing to fans next season.

Kansas will likely lose every player who's playing big minutes for them this season.Robinson,Kaun,Jackson, and Stewart are Seniors.Darrell Arthur, and Brandon Rush are 1st Round Locks.Sherron Collins has some family issues back in Chicago which will likely cause him to leave early and hes a Late 1st/Early 2nd Round Pick.

Dont rule out Mario Chalmers whos also a Late 1st/Early 2nd Round type of guy who could possibly improve his stock to the early 20's as a 6'3 combo guard with great defensive skills at a pre draft camp.

Indiana is going to be terrible, but getting rid of Sampson and his hoodlum players is the right move in the long run.

he shouldn't have been fired? how about he shouldn't have been HIRED? hiring a man with integrity that had already been compromised was not exactly the best move. however he vowed to change his ways. he obviously didn't, so his word couldn't stand up to anything at all. who is to say he wouldn't continue to make the dark cloud now hanging over bloomington grow? sure he had a 'slightly' successful program, but seriously? nobody in their right mind could say that he shouldn't have been fired.

Why do you care where his word stands?

He was winning, recruiting top talent, and was respected by all of his players.

You're acting as if a coach is supposed to represent you or any other fans of the Hoosiers, you have to realize this is just college basketball.

Unless coaches have to be forced out by the NCAA like Todd Bozeman or they break the law then they shouldnt be fired for anything other than not winning
