Point guard McMillan commits to ASU

By Mike Tulumello, Tribune

August 14, 2006

The ASU basketball program has landed its second top 100 player in the past week. Jamelle McMillan, son of longtime NBA player and coach Nate McMillan, has given the Sun Devils a verbal commitment, according to sources familiar with the recruiting process.

McMillan was ranked No. 99 by among players entering their senior season in high school. McMillan, a 6-foot-2 point guard, will play at O’Dea High School in Seattle.

Last week, new ASU coach Herb Sendek landed off guard James Harden, one of the most highly touted players ever to commit to ASU.

Harden had been ranked No. 31 in his class entering the summer. Now, after the various camps have concluded, he’s ranked No. 15 in his class.

McMillan took an unofficial visit this past weekend, visiting ASU with his mother. His father is with the American men’s national team, where Nate McMillan is an assistant coach. The elder McMillan also is the Portland Trail Blazers’ head coach.

Both Harden and McMillan will be freshmen in the 2007-08 season.

ASU is hoping to end up with a top 10 recruiting class.

The Sun Devils’ next possibility appears to be Clint Chapman, a 6-9 post player from Canby High School in Oregon.

That's weird to see front page news on a kid that I went to middle school with about what school he commited to. Expect him to put up some ridiculous number his senior season.

I'm suprised he didn't choose NC State since that was his dad's alma mater.
