good one kid, i don't remember ever seeing OJ guarding any NBA caliber players, let alone be a defensive wiz in college. You also do know mayo is only an inch taller than gordon, and is going to be a combo guard just like gordon. He lacks a great first step just like gordon, which is why he will not play the point, and he does not have the handles to play the point. He does have a whicked jumpshot, just like gordon, and he has good range, again like gordon, so unless im missing something here. Granted if he had D rose's killer first step he would be able to play the point and such, but that's life.
I will admit that I have never heard that comparison before and it does not sound at all like the O.J. Mayo I watched nearly every game of last year at USC. Do you guys think this comparison makes any sense?
I'm not trying to mock him, I am just wondering if others saw OJ Mayo the same way, because the player he described wasn't the Mayo I have watched but maybe I am failing to translate how his game will be against NBA competition.
I litterally stopped reading when the post insinuated Mayo couldn't/didn't play D. So many people did not watch him play in College. He can be so much better than Gordon IMO. I see him closer to Gilbert Arenas than Gordon. Mayo is going to be a an All-Star in the NBA in a few years.
I heard the same thing about Jerryd Bayless, that he might be a better Ben Gordon. I think it's a pretty disappointing comparison because Ben Gordon is streaky and more effective off the bench. I think Mayo will be better than Ben Gordon. I use to really like Ben Gordon too but I guess it's because his value has dropped a lot. It isn't as much of a compliment anymore to be compared to him.
