So we've had a Fernandez love fest for about a year now. Now Bayless is the talk of the town. But which one is better? Who will be better this upcoming season? Who will be better in the long run (keep in mind Bayless is about 4 years younger)?
I think Fernandez will have a better season this year. He is more experienced and he will likely be a better fit because he will be better at the spot up shot and slashing without the ball.
I think Bayless will be better in the long run, but its hard to tell who will fit better in the long run, because Bayless seems to be more of the type of player that needs the ball in his hands, and Roy is already that guy. But talent wise, I think Bayless will be better. His defense is already pretty good and should improve, and he is only 19 still. Major upside.
With all the post game interviews from summer league that I've seen from Jerryd Bayless, I think Bayless has the work ethic, respect and motivation to make it in the NBA for the long haul as a very consistant player. How much will the constant numbers be though is something that we have to wait and figure out.
I won't judge who will be better just yet because all we've seen from Rudy is basically Youtube video footage and scouting reports from the Blazers and lets be real, I don't think Mike Barrett or others would tell us, "Yes Rudy Fernandez I think will be a big flop for us."
But right now I'm just extremely happy with Jerryd's work ethic and attitude. He had 28 points in a summer league game and was being praised by the interviewer and was downplaying his success and bringing up his mistakes and what he needs to work on to become a better player, he also said he wants to soak in everything Nate says like a sponge.
Just try to watch him at the Olimpics, he will do great (he IS playing great now). Yesterday Spain played his first serious game against Russia... and they won 91-56. Pau Gasol, Rudy Fernandez and Ricky Rubio were the best players of the game (and Kirilenko).
