Default Paul's Celebrity bowling event to be televised

on ESPN 10/19/08.

Winston-Salem, N.C. (AHN) - New Orleans Hornets' Chris Paul and the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) have teamed up for the inaugural celebrity doubles fundraising event slated Sept. 20.

The 23-year-old Paul, also known as "CP3", will be leading a field of five NBA stars who will team up with five pro bowlers in the inaugural bowling event held in conjunction with the third annual Chris Paul's Winston-Salem Weekend.

The Chris Paul Weekend, established in 2006, is the fundraising event of the CP3 Foundation. It is Paul's way of giving back to the community.

Paul, runner-up in the last season's NBA MVP race, started his charity works for his hometown after being drafted by the Hornets in 2005. His first project was the restoration of the basketball courts at the Rupert Bell Recreation Center.

Ludacris, David Banner and Hot Stylz will perform a charity concert for CP3's Winston-Salem weekend.

Quote:
The last time that rapper Ludacris was in Winston-Salem, tickets were about $30.

This time around, they will be as low as $10.

Ludacris will perform Sept. 18 at Joel Coliseum during the third annual Chris Paul's Winston-Salem Weekend. Also performing will be David Banner, who just released his fifth CD, The Greatest Story Ever Told, and Chicago rap group Hot Stylz, best known for its hit song "Lookin' Boy," featuring Yung Joc.

The weekend program is a fundraiser for Paul's CP3 Foundation, which supports local programs and charities. Paul, a former basketball standout at Wake Forest, now plays for the New Orleans Hornets. He is in Beijing, playing for the U.S. Olympic basketball team, which beat Greece yesterday.

Paul wanted to provide more public activities during the weekend, and offering a concert featuring some of the hottest names in hip-hop seemed like a good idea, said Tom George, who is helping market the concert. Paul also wanted the concert to be a sort of gift to the community, and that's why the prices are lower than for similar kinds of shows, he said.
