Candace Parker is dominating the WNBA
Many of you don't follow the WNBA closely -- note that InsideHoops.com's WNBA page has a nice, quick little daily roundup where you'll know everything worth knowing in two minutes flat -- but everyone in basketball should know about Candace Parker.
She dominated women's college hoops, and as a WNBA rookie is doing the same in the pros.
Playing for the Los Angeles Sparks alongside Lisa Lesie, Parker is averaging 18.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.6 steals and 2.5 blocks per game on 50.2% shooting from the field and 41.2% from three-point range. We'll ignore her not-so-amazing 71.6% free throw percentage for now.
Last night, in an 82-74 Sparks win over the Houston Comets, Parker put up the following stat-line: 15-of-23 shooting, 9-of-12 free throws, for 40 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists (4 turnovers), 2 steals and 5 blocks.
She's kinda good.
It was her first 40-point game since high school, said Parker after the game to the Los Angeles Times.
Parker's 40 points was three short of the WNBA's rookie record, reports the Times.
