The Boston Celtics announced today that they have re-signed forward Kevin Garnett.
“We are ecstatic that Kevin will continue his career with the Celtics,” said Danny Ainge, Celtics President of Basketball Operations. “Kevin has greatly changed the culture since he first put on a Celtics jersey and he has come to embody everything that we want in a Celtic.”
Garnett, a 6’11 forward, averaged 15.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 0.93 steals and 1.02 blocks in 31.1 minutes per game during the 2011-12 season. Since he joined the team prior to the 2007-08 season, Garnett has been named to four All-Star teams (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), been named the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year (2007-08), has been named to the NBA’s All-Defensive First Team three times (2008, 2009, 2011) and has been named the NBA’s Player of the Week four times.
“I’m more than happy and I’m excited to be back!” said Garnett.
Garnett, the 2003-04 NBA Most Valuable Player and member of 13 NBA All-Star Teams over his career, has averaged 15.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.14 steals and 1.02 blocks in 31.2 minutes per game since he has joined the Celtics prior to the 2007-08 season. A member of the 2008 NBA Championship team, Garnett upped his totals in the playoffs by averaging 17.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.29 steals and 1.12 blocks in 78 postseason games.
