Miami Heat sign guard Terrel Harris

The Miami HEAT announced today that they have re-signed guard Terrel Harris.

Harris appeared in 22 games (one start) last season with the HEAT and averaged 3.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 14.5 minutes. He grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds in a 116-109 triple-overtime win at Atlanta, becoming just the third rookie in HEAT history to grab at least 14 rebounds off the Miami bench and paired with Udonis Haslem (11) to become only the fifth pair of non-starting teammates to each grab double figure rebounds in the same game. Harris appeared in four postseason games last season during Miami’s championship run totaling five points and three rebounds in 10 minutes of action.

Prior to joining the HEAT last year, Harris split the season between the Rio Grand Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League and EnBW Ludwigsburg of the German Bundesliga League. He appeared in seven games (three starts) for the Vipers and averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 2.14 steals and 25.0 minutes while shooting 56.6 percent from the field, 42.9 percent from three-point range and 75 percent from the foul line. He also appeared in six games for EnBW Ludwigsburg and averaged 2.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 12.7 minutes while shooting 33.3 percent from the field. Additionally, he has spent time with the Maine Red Claws of the NBA D-League and Strasbourg IG of the France ProA League.

The Oklahoma State product was originally signed by the HEAT as a free agent on December 10, 2011.

The HEAT’s roster now stands at 16.

Julius Erving will write autobiography

Julius Erving autobiography coming May 2013

Julius Erving, one of the greatest players in the history of professional basketball, who became known as Dr. J for the way he operated above the rim, has signed to write his autobiography.

It is believed to be a $1 million deal.

The book, tentatively titled “Dr. J,” will be co-written by Sports Illustrated Senior Writer Phil Taylor and is scheduled for publication in May 2013.

HarperCollins Executive Editor David Hirshey acquired worldwide rights to the book from Erving’s business manager, Alan Rubin, and his literary agent, Matthew Guma. (HarperCollins is owned by News Corp., which also owns The Post.)

Erving retired in 1987, and is one of the few players to have numbers retired by two different teams — No. 32 from his days when he led the then Long Island-based New York Nets to two championships while earning two MVP awards in the old American Basketball Association and the No. 6 worn with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he earned MVP honors en route to an NBA championship.

Kenya Bell and Charlie Bell finally divorced

Kenya Bell is technically no longer a basketball wife as the reality star’s divorce was just finalized with former NBA star Charlie Bell … but she will be taking a lot of NBA money with her.

If you recall, Kenya and Charlie were entangled in a bitter divorce battle over money. Charlie wanted Kenya to support him, claiming he makes pennies with no more NBA contract. Kenya wanted Charlie to give up a chunk of his seven-figure savings and pay child support.

After all the back and forth … a judgment was filed on August 27.

Phoenix Suns plan to hire a new Gorilla

The Phoenix Suns have a job opening, and landing it will be harder than actually making the team.

After all, the roster has room for 13 players. There is only one Suns Gorilla.

The responsibilities and qualifications are extensive: The ideal candidate needs to have a college degree and two years’ experience in a similar job, the ability to work with children and adults, some computer savvy and a level of fitness that goes well beyond what most people can achieve.

Broken legs, separated shoulders and pulled hamstrings? Threats, insults, even assaults? All part of the job.
