Knicks sign Troy Williams

The New York Knicks yesterday (Tuesday) signed forward Troy Williams. The team had previously signed Williams to consecutive 10-day contracts.

Williams, 6-7 and 220-pounds, is averaging 8.1 points and 2.9 rebounds over 13.9 minutes in eight games with the Knicks. He first signed a 10-day contract with the team on Feb. 21, 2018.

Williams previously averaged 5.6 points and 2.1 rebounds over 16.9 minutes in 34 games (16 starts) over two seasons with Memphis and Houston. He appeared in four games for the Rockets this season before being waived on Feb. 14.

The Hampton, Va. native also appeared in 19 games for Rio Grande (G League) during the 2017-18 season, averaging 19.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.9 steals over 29.1 minutes. He won the 2017 D-League Dunk contest and played in 33 games for Rio Grande and Iowa last season. He was originally signed by Memphis as an undrafted rookie free agent in Oct. 2016 after two collegiate seasons at Indiana University.

Avery Bradley out 6-8 weeks after surgery

L.A. Clippers guard Avery Bradley underwent surgery yesterday to repair adductor and rectus abdominus muscles. The procedure was performed today by Dr. Bill Meyers at the Vincera Institute, in Philadelphia. Recovery from this procedure is expected to take six to eight weeks.

Bradley, 27, has appeared in 46 games for the Clippers and Detroit Pistons this season, averaging 14.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 31.2 minutes.

Grizzlies sign Briante Weber to 10-day contract

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed guard Briante Weber (pronunciation: bree-AHN-tay WEB-ber) to a 10-day contract as a Call-Up from the NBA G League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce. In addition, the team waived guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes (X-avier RUH-tan Mays).

Weber (6-2, 165) began this season as a two-way player for the Houston Rockets and Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He came off the bench in all 13 of his appearances for the Rockets and averaged 2.0 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 9.1 minutes; he started all 13 of his games with the Vipers and averaged 18.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 3.31 steals in 34.4 minutes. At the conclusion of his two-way contract, Weber entered into his third career stint with Sioux Falls where he started all 15 of his games and averaged 14.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.07 steals in 34.4 minutes.

A three-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year (2013, 2014, 2015) at Virginia Commonwealth University, Weber has appeared in 40 regular season games during his three-year NBA career and has averaged 3.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 12.3 minutes for the Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets, Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets after he was unselected in the 2015 NBA Draft. The 25-year-old began his NBA career with Memphis during the 2015-16 season, appearing in six games (four starts) and averaging 4.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 27.7 minutes. He also registered two postseason appearances for Miami during his rookie season.

Weber also has appeared in 87 regular season games (68 starts) in the G League and has averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.69 steals in 33.4 minutes for the Sioux Falls Skyforce and Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He was a member of the 2016 NBA G League Champion Skyforce and was named to the All-G League Second Team in 2016-17. This season, The Chesapeake, Virginia native has started all 28 games and averaged 16.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 2.64 steals in 34.4 minutes.

Rathan-Mayes (6-4, 208) appeared in five games as a reserve for Memphis and averaged 5.8 points, 1.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.20 steals in 23.6 minutes after signing a 10-day contract on March 5 as a Call-Up from the G League’s Westchester Knicks. The 23-year-old Scarborough, Ontario, Canada native has competed in 39 games (37 starts) for Westchester this season after going undrafted in the 2017 NBA Draft out of Florida State University.

Hawks sign Antonius Cleveland to multi-year contract

The Atlanta Hawks have signed guard Antonius Cleveland to a multi-year contract. He was signed to consecutive 10-day contracts on February 22 and March 4.

Earlier this season, Cleveland was on a two-way contract with Dallas, appearing in 13 games with the Mavericks. In seven NBA G League games this season (six with the Santa Cruz Warriors and one with the Texas Legends), he’s averaged 13.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals in 26.6 minutes (.547 FG%, .500 3FG%, .826 FT%).

Michael Carter-Williams undergoes season-ending shoulder surgery

Charlotte Hornets guard Michael Carter-Williams has undergone surgery to address a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Carter-Williams sustained the injury at Toronto on March 4 and will miss the remainder of the season.

In his first season with the Hornets, Carter-Williams averaged 4.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 16.1 minutes per game in 52 contests. In 287 career games, he has averaged 11.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.

Hawks sign Damion Lee to 10-day contract

The Hawks today signed guard Damion Lee to a 10-day contract.

Lee has played in 38 games this season (13 starts) with the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA G League, averaging 15.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.5 steals in 29.7 minutes (.454 FG%, .915 FT%).

Last season, in 16 starts with the Maine Red Claws of the NBA G League, he put up 17.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.1 steals in 34.1 minutes (.472 FG%, .466 3FG%, .817 FT%).

Lee spent four collegiate seasons at Drexel (including a redshirt year) before playing his final season at Louisville as a graduate transfer. He averaged 15.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in 33.5 minutes with the Cardinals in 2015-16.

A native of Baltimore, MD, where he attended Calvert Hall College High School, Lee will wear jersey No. 8.

Suns sign Shaquille Harrison to multi-year contract

The Suns today signed guard Shaquille Harrison to a multi-year contract. This after previously signing him to 10-day contracts on February 21 and March 3.

Harrison has appeared in nine games with the Suns, the first nine games of his NBA career, averaging 4.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals in 13.4 minutes. Per 36 minutes, Harrison has averaged 11.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 3.6 steals and 1.5 blocks in his nine games. Making his first career start in the Suns’ most recent game at Charlotte, Harrison scored a career-high 14 points in addition to recording four assists and two steals in 21 minutes. Harrison snagged four steals in two of his first four career games as he joined Alvan Adams as the only players in Suns history to record multiple performances of at least four steals through four career games.

A 6-4, 190-pound guard, Harrison was originally called up from the Northern Arizona Suns of the NBA G League. In 36 games with the NAZ Suns this season, he averaged 11.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.9 steals (10th in G League). In five games after taking over the starting point guard role on February 2, Harrison averaged 14.0 points on 48.3 percent shooting, 9.2 assists, 7.0 rebounds and 2.4 steals, guiding the NAZ Suns to a 4-1 record in those games. On February 9 at the South Bay Lakers, Harrison scored 25 points and dished out a career-high 12 assists.

The 33rd GATORADE Call-Up in the NBA this season and league-high fourth from the NAZ Suns, Harrison has averaged 10.3 points on 45.8 percent shooting, 4.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.6 steals in 84 career G League games, all with the NAZ Suns over the past two seasons.

The 24-year-old went unselected in the 2016 NBA Draft out of the University of Tulsa. In addition to two seasons with the Suns’ NBA G League affiliate, Harrison participated in Phoenix’s training camp prior to the 2016-17 season and played for the Suns’ Summer League team in 2017, averaging 10.3 points on 61.1 percent shooting in three games.

A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Harrison left Tulsa as the only player in Golden Hurricane basketball history to start every game in a four-year career. He averaged 11.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.8 steals in 133 games for his career, finishing second in program history with 461 career assists and third with 244 steals.

Lakers sign Travis Wear to second 10-day contract

The Lakers today signed forward Travis Wear to a second 10-day contract.

Wear has averaged 4.6 points and 2.4 rebounds in 10.4 minutes through five games with the Los Angeles Lakers. The UCLA product earned his first NBA Call-Up on March 2 after 33 games (29 starts) with the South Bay Lakers, where he averaged 16.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists, while shooting 44.5 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from three-point range.

The Lakers roster stands at 17, including two two-way players.

Hawks sign Jaylen Morris to second 10-day contract

The Atlanta Hawks today signed guard Jaylen Morris to a second 10-day contract.

In five games with the Hawks, he’s averaging 4.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 18.5 minutes.

Morris has also started 39 games this season for the Erie BayHawks, Atlanta’s NBA G League affiliate, and has averaged 12.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals in 31.4 minutes (.517 FG%, .673 FT%).
