Lionsgate sued over music used in LeBron James documentary

HollywoodReporter reports:

lebron james

Lionsgate has been hit with a quirky copyright infringement lawsuit over a piece of music used in documentary More Than A Game, which chronicles basketball superstar LeBron James’ rise during his high school days in Ohio.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday in Georgia federal court comes from Mason Hall, a songwriter who says he authored a copyrighted composition entitled, “We Ready.”

Hall is suing Lionsgate as well as what may or may not be a LeBron James label at Interscope Records (“Interscope Lebron LLC”) for using his composition in the film without license.

Before this lawsuit even touches upon the question of fair use, the plaintiff’s first task may be convincing a judge that the song in question is really his.

Movie starring Kevin Durant will be filmed in Baton Rouge

Kevin Durant

It appears the NBA lockout has cost Oklahoma City a date with Hollywood.

The bulk of filming for the feature-length Warner Bros. film that Thunder forward Kevin Durant has agreed to star in will be filmed in Baton Rouge, La. rather than OKC.

It’s likely that the final few days of filming will be shot in Oklahoma City. But by losing the majority of the project, both Oklahoma City’s economy and its growing status as a bustling city on the rise has been dealt a blow.

The entire project couldn’t be shot in Oklahoma City because of a snag with state incentives for film production. The state of Louisiana offers a tax credit of 85 cents on the dollar, making the state a premier destination for filming. Oklahoma offers a 37 percent rebate for companies filming in the state, but the Oklahoma Film & Music Office had already run out of funding for this fiscal year.

Due to traffic ticket warrants, Ron Artest cannot become Metta World Peace yet

Ron Artest

Instead of throwing a barbecue to celebrate his name change to Metta World Peace, Lakers forward Ron Artest plans to navigate the legal system.

With outstanding traffic warrants preventing Artest from legally changing his name, the Lakers forward wants copies of the citations and will pay them if “it’s found they are unpaid,” according to a person close to Artest who wasn’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

It was expected that the name change would be made official at a hearing Friday morning at Stanley Mosk Courthouse, but Artest’s next court date was scheduled for Sept. 16 because of the unspecified traffic citations. Artest was issued two tickets for “moving violations,” according to the person, but wasn’t informed how much they cost and what incidents earned him those citations.

MICHAEL JORDAN EN CHESTE

MJ is coming to the Magnificent Mile.

Michael Jordan’s Steak House Chicago will make its debut Tuesday in the InterContinental Chicago hotel (505 N. Michigan Ave. 312-321-8823), taking over that property’s sprawling, architecturally fascinating second-floor dining space (which accommodates 160, plus a couple of 20-seat private spaces). The restaurant also is taking over the hotel’s lobby-level bar space, which will be expanded to hold 90.

“It’s an upgrade, to say the least,” says executive chef James O’Donnell.

LeBron James jumps into swimming pool in Barcelona

LeBron James is in Spain on a promotional trip and was in Barcelona, jumping from high in the air into a swimming pool.

It took him a while to make the leap, but LeBron finally took the plunge.

I laughed hearing some kid yell “booooooo!” at the 1:09 mark.

Really, he’s high up in the air. I’d be extremely hesitant to do it as well. You also have to make sure the pool is as deep as you need it to be so your legs don’t crash into the bottom. I completely understand him hesitating before doing the jump.

Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian get married

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports:

Kim Kardashian and New Jersey Nets player and former Minnesota Gopher Kris Humphries were married Saturday in a twilight wedding ceremony at a private estate in Montecito, Calif., People magazine reported on its website.

About 440 guests were present, including Demi Lovato, Babyface, Vera Wang, Mario Lopez, Mark Ballas, Ciaro and Carmelo Anthony, Eva Longoria and Eduardo Cruz, Alan Thicke, Sugar Ray Leonard, Venus and Serena Williams, Kathy Lee Gifford, Greta Van Susteren, Jillian Barberie, Avril Lavigne, Scottie Pippen and Lindsay Lohan.

Stepfather Bruce Jenner walked Kardashian, 30, down the aisle, wearing an ivory custom-designed Vera Wang gown, People reported.

The groom, 26, sported a white peak lapel tuxedo jacket, black tuxedo pants with white tuxedo shirt and white bow tie – all by Ermenegildo Zegna – and the couple exchanged rings by Lorraine Schwartz, People reported.

The Toronto Star reports:

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the price tag for the wedding — with 500-plus invited guests — will be $10 million U.S., but the cost might be covered by a number of side deals, including an exclusive contract with People magazine to publish wedding photos, said to be worth $1.5 million. Humphries, whose last contract with the New Jersey Nets was worth $9.6 million over three seasons, also reportedly received a discount on a $2 million ring, while Kardashian was given three $20,000 Vera Wang dresses to choose from.

Rockets forward Chase Budinger enters beach volleyball tourney

Chase Budinger #10

Chase Budinger of the Houston Rockets has entered the men’s open division of the Corona Light Wide Open beach volleyball tournament to be played Saturday and Sunday.

The former Arizona star, who has played the last two seasons with the Rockets, will partner with former UC Santa Barbara all-star Dane Jensen. Budinger was a two-sport standout at La Costa Canyon High in San Diego County. He won the 2006 Mizuno National Player of the Year Award in volleyball and was named a McDonald’s All-American in basketball.

With NBA players locked out by owners, no one is sure if there will be a 2011-12 season.

“Volleyball has always been a passion of mine, and it has been great to get back out on the beach and train,” Budinger said in a statement. “I’m really excited about this opportunity and I’m looking forward to seeing how my skills match up against some of the top players.”
