Celtics sign D.J. White to second 10-day contract

The Boston Celtics announced today that they have signed forward D.J. White to a second 10-day contract.

White, a 6’9” forward, has appeared in one game for the Celtics this season after signing his first 10-day contract with the team on February 28. White grabbed two rebounds and blocked two shots in four minutes of action against the Indiana Pacers on March 6.

Clippers sign Maalik Wayns to 10-day contract

The Los Angeles Clippers announced today that they have signed guard Maalik Wayns to a 10-day contract.

Wayns joins 120 players with NBA D-League experience currently on NBA rosters.

Wayns (6-2, 185, Villanova) has played in nine games for the Vipers this season, averaging 12.4 points, 3.0 assists and 22.0 minutes.  He has scored in double figures in seven outings, including two 20-plus point games.

Undrafted out of Villanova in 2012, Wayns is a 21-game NBA veteran, having signed with the Philadelphia 76ers as a free agent in July 2012, and again to a 10-day contract in January 2013.  He returns to the NBA with career averages of 2.7 points, 1.0 assists and 7.9 minutes.

Wayns is expected to join the Clippers today and be available tomorrow when the team hosts the Detroit Pistons in Los Angeles.

Warriors sign Malcolm Thomas to 10-day contract

The Golden State Warriors have signed forward Malcolm Thomas to a 10-day contract, the team announced today. Thomas joins the Warriors from the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League, marking the 22nd Call-Up of the 2012-13 NBA season.

Thomas, 24, appeared in just one game for the D-Fenders, posting 13 points, 17 rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block in 41 minutes versus Texas on Wednesday, March 6.

After going undrafted out of San Diego State in the 2011 NBA Draft, Thomas played in the D-League for much of last season, earning First Team All-NBA D-League and All-Defensive Team honors by averaging 13.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game in 25 games combined with Los Angeles, Rio Grande Valley and Austin. Additionally, he earned a pair of Call-Ups during his rookie campaign, signing briefly with both the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets.

Hawks sign Shelvin Mack to 10-day contract

The Atlanta Hawks have signed guard Shelvin Mack to a 10-day contract, Hawks President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Danny Ferry announced today.

In his second NBA season, Mack has played in 11 total games (two starts) with the Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers, averaging 3.6 points on .401 shooting, 1.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 13.7 minutes per game. In his seven games (two starts) with the Wizards, he averaged 5.3 points on .400 shooting, 2.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 20.4 minutes per contest. He appeared in four games and totaled eight minutes played with the 76ers.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound point guard from Butler most recently played with the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League. In 23 games (22 starts), he averaged 20.1 points on .454 shooting, 4.3 rebounds and 7.7 assists in 40.3 minutes per game. He was selected to participate in the 2013 NBA Development League All-Star Game.

As a rookie in 2011-12, Mack played in 64 of 66 games with the Wizards, averaging 3.6 points on .400 shooting, 1.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 12.1 minutes per game.

Mack will wear uniform No. 8, and will be available for tonight’s 7:30 p.m. game at Philips Arena versus the Philadelphia 76ers.

Atlanta Hawks waive Jeremy Tyler

The Atlanta Hawks have waived forward/center Jeremy Tyler, Hawks President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Danny Ferry announced today.

Acquired from the Golden State Warriors on February 21, Tyler appeared in one game for the Hawks (March 4 at Denver), grabbing three rebounds in five minutes of action.

Heat sign Juwan Howard to 10-day contract

The Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed forward Juwan Howard to a 10-day contract.

“Juwan is a key part of the Championship culture here in Miami,” said HEAT President Pat Riley. “He is essential to this team and can still play this game at a high level in some of our biggest games yet to come. He has a unique veteran savvy and will provide leadership and experience to our team.”

Howard, an 18-year NBA veteran, has appeared in 1,201 career games (898 starts) averaging 13.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 30.5 minutes while shooting 46.9 percent from the field. He appeared in 85 games with the HEAT over the last two seasons averaging 2.1 points, 2.0 rebounds and 9.2 minutes while shooting 40 percent from the field. Additionally, he appeared in 11 postseason games during Miami’s 2012 NBA Championship run, totaling 17 points, 10 rebounds and an assist in 60 minutes of action while shooting 4-of-9 from the field.

The former NBA All-Star was originally signed by the HEAT as a free agent on July 20, 2010 and then re-signed on December 9, 2011.

Bulls sign Louis Amundson to 10-day contract

Bulls sign Louis Amundson to 10-day contract

The Chicago Bulls today signed forward Lou Amundson (AH-mund-son) to a 10-day contract.

Amundson (6-9, 225) will be in uniform tonight (No. 17) when the Bulls host the Brooklyn Nets at the United Center at 7:00 p.m. (CT).

In his seventh season out of UNLV, Amundson has played in 308 regular season games (seven starts). During that time, he has posted averages of 3.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg and 0.75 bpg in 12.9 mpg. He also owns shooting averages of .493 from the field and .443 from the line.

A native of Ventura, Calif., the 30-year old forward appeared in 20 games with the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier this season. He has also played with Philadelphia (twice), Utah, Phoenix, Golden State and Indiana.

With his signing, Chicago’s roster now stands at 15.

Sacramento Kings waive guard Aaron Brooks

The Sacramento Kings today waived guard Aaron Brooks, according to Kings President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie.

Brooks, a 6-0, 161-pound guard, averaged 8.0 points (.459 FG%, .378 3FG%, .769 FT%), 1.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 20.8 minutes per game in 46 contests, of which he started 20 for the Kings.

The Kings roster now stands at 13 players.

Anthony Davis out with shoulder sprain

The New Orleans Hornets say rookie forward Anthony Davis has a left shoulder sprain and will not play on Thursday night in Oklahoma City.

Davis hurt his shoulder in a collision with Brooklyn’s Brook Lopez under the basket late in the third quarter of New Orleans’ 101-97 loss to the Nets.

Team officials said during the game that he was available to return, but coach Monty Williams elected not to put him back in, and team officials say Davis did not travel to Oklahoma City.
