The Atlanta Hawks have requested waivers on forward Cartier Martin, it was announced today by President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Danny Ferry.
Martin was signed by the Hawks on Oct. 15 and appeared in 25 games (two starts), averaging 6.6 points and 2.0 rebounds in 17.5 minutes.
Atlanta’s roster now stands at 14.

Atlanta Hawks forward/center Al Horford had surgery today to repair a complete tear of his right pectoral muscle. The surgery was performed at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta by Dr. Xavier Duralde and accompanied by Hawks Team Physician Dr. Michael Bernot from the Peachtree Orthopaedic Clinic.
Horford will now undergo a period of rest, treatment and rehabilitation. He will be out through the remainder of the season.
At the time of his injury, the 6-foot-10 forward/center led the team in scoring (18.6), field goal percentage (.567; 7th in league), rebounding (8.4) and blocks per game (1.5; 13th) while adding 2.6 assists in 33.0 minutes per game in 29 games (all starts).
The Atlanta Hawks have recalled guard Jared Cunningham from the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League, it was announced today by President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Danny Ferry.
Cunningham, who was re-assigned to Bakersfield on December 16, has averaged 18.1 points, 5.4 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 33.1 minutes in eight games (all starts) in two stints with the Jam this season. In his last two contests, Cunningham has put up 27.5 points, 9.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks in 34.5 minutes (.704 FG%, .700 3FG%, .714 FT%).
He has appeared in three games with the Hawks this year.

Atlanta Hawks forward/center Al Horford left last night’s game at Cleveland due to a right shoulder injury and did not return. An MRI and examination today by Dr. Michael Bernot at Peachtree Orthopaedics in Atlanta revealed a complete tear of his right pectoral muscle.
“We will work with Al and complete our due diligence to determine the next best steps for him,” said President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Danny Ferry. “Injuries are part of the challenge of an NBA season.”
Horford is out indefinitely and an update on his status will be given in the near future. It is feared, but not yet confirmed, that he could be out for a long time.
The Atlanta Hawks have recalled guard John Jenkins from the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League, it was announced today by President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Danny Ferry.
Jenkins was assigned to Bakersfield on December 6, 2013. He appeared in four games for the Jam, all starts, and averaged 21.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals in 36.3 minutes (.418 FG%, .800 FT%).
Jenkins will be in uniform and available tonight against the Wizards.

Much of the talk around Hawks practice this morning revolved around Kyle Korver’s shot at owning the NBA record for consecutive games with a 3-pointer. With a long-range shot against the Cavaliers tonight Korver will own the streak outright at 90. He is currently tied with Dana Barros at 89.
One new item that came out today came from Al Horford. The Hawks center he has heard players from other teams tell Korver that he wouldn’t get a 3-point shot off against them.
“I’ve heard it,” Horford said. “‘You’re not going to get a 3-point shot off tonight.’ I’ve definitely heard it. It gives credit to what he’s been able to do. That is an impressive streak.”
The Hawks are planning an in-game moment of recognition should Korver set the record tonight.
The Atlanta Hawks have assigned guard Dennis Schröder to the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League, it was announced today by President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Danny Ferry.
Schröder, Atlanta’s first round pick in the 2013 NBA Draft (17th overall), is averaging 3.7 points, 2.5 assists and 1.1 rebounds in 13.9 minutes in 11 games this season. He ranks tied for fourth among all NBA rookies in assists and tied for 16th in scoring.

Hawks general manager Danny Ferry has previously said the team did not make Josh Smith a contract offer once he became an unrestricted free agent this summer. Smith gave some more detail into the Hawks’ lack of interest this summer in a radio interview with 92.9 FM Monday.
“No, there wasn’t,” Smith said when asked if there was a contract offer. “During free agency, during that period, there were a lot of guys out in L.A. that were meeting with various teams. I was one of those guys. That’s where I work out in the summertime as well. The only time I saw the Hawks during free agency was when they came to one of my workouts just to say hello. I think they were meeting with Dwight Howard that day. They never came in or sat down with me during the free agency period to offer me anything.”
The Atlanta Hawks are off to a solid 4-3 start to the new season. And the team should get even better with the return of scoring guard Lou Williams. Here’s the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

Lou Williams has been cleared for full-contact practice and his return to the Hawks lineup could come soon.
A day after Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer acknowledged that Williams has participated in full-contact drills, he said Williams has been medically cleared and is now getting in game shape. The veteran guard is rehabbing from a torn right ACL suffered in January.
“He is basically competing full-go now,” Budenholzer said Wednesday morning before the Hawks took on the Knicks.

The Atlanta Hawks have exercised the third-year (2014-‘15) option on the contract of John Jenkins, it was announced Thursday by President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Danny Ferry.
As a rookie last season, Jenkins averaged 6.1 points and 1.5 rebounds in 14.8 minutes (.446 FG%, .384 3FG%, .843 FT%), playing in 61 games (two starts). He ranked fifth among all rookies in three-point percentage, was tied for 18th in scoring and tied for 19th in assists per game. He was Atlanta’s first-round pick (23rd overall) of the 2012 NBA Draft.
