The Charlotte Observer reports: The Charlotte Bobcats have come to terms with a free-agent point guard Earl Boykins and an announcement of his signing is expected later today, the Observer has learned. Boykins, who played for Denver and Milwaukee last season, is somewhat undersized at 5-foot-5 but has been a dynamic scorer.

The Charlotte Bobcats have assigned rookie forward Jermareo Davidson to their NBA Development League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Davidson is expected to see his first action on Friday, January 25, against the Utah Flash.
The 6-10, 230-pound forward has appeared in 16 games this season with averages of 2.7 points and 1.5 rebounds in 7.1 minutes of action. His draft rights were acquired by the Bobcats along with guard Jason Richardson from the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Brandan Wright, whom the Bobcats selected with eighth pick in the 2007 NBA Draft.
Davidson, the 36th overall selection in the June draft, played four seasons at the University of Alabama and averaged 10.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 126 collegiate games. He was named All-Southeastern Conference Second Team in 2006-07 by the league’s coaches and Honorable Mention All-SEC by The Associated Press.
As a senior, he ranked second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.0 points, ranked first in total blocks with 70 and ranked second in rebounding (8.2). He also reached double-figure scoring 25 times and posted 11 double-doubles on the season.
The AP reports: Jason Richardson scored 25 points and the hot-shooting Charlotte Bobcats overcame Jason Kidd’s third consecutive triple-double to beat the New Jersey Nets 115-99 on Wednesday night. Gerald Wallace added 21 points and 11 rebounds and Emeka Okafor and Nazr Mohammed added 17 points apiece for the Bobcats, who shot 59 percent in their highest-scoring game of the season… The Nets had their five-game winning streak snapped despite Kidd’s 13 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists. He became the first player since Detroit’s Grant Hill 11 seasons ago to have three straight triple-doubles.
The Charlotte Bobcats today acquired Nazr Mohammed from Detroit in exchange for Primoz Brezec and Walter Herrmann. In addition, the Bobcats have rescinded their D-League assignment for Jermareo Davidson. In a related move, the Pistons requested waivers on forward Ronald Dupree.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have matched the Charlotte Bobcats’ contract offer sheet signed by Anderson Varejao, General Manager Danny Ferry announced this morning. By matching the Bobcats’ contract offer sheet, Varejao will now be under contract with the Cavaliers. Per the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
During the 2006-07 season, Varejao, 25, played in 81 games (six starts) averaging 6.8 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game and 23.9 minutes per game. During the 2007 NBA Playoffs, he played in all 20 games and averaged 6.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in 22.4 minutes per game. Varejao has played in 183 career games (10 starts) and has averaged 5.6 points and 5.7 rebounds in 19.4 minutes per game. He has played in 33 career playoff games and has averaged 6.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
The Cavaliers roster now stands at 15 players.
Charlotte Bobcats General Manager Rod Higgins announced today that the team has extended an offer sheet to restricted free agent Anderson Varejao.
In accordance with the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, Varejao’s former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, will have seven days to decide whether to match the offer.
“Anderson has established himself as a very good young player in this league,” said Higgins. “We look forward to the opportunity to add him to the core of our franchise as we continue to grow and improve.”
The Charlotte Observer reports: Primoz Brezec is out and rookie Jared Dudley is in. Charlotte Bobcats coach Sam Vincent is making that shift in the starting lineup against the Toronto Raptors tonight. It’s a move that makes the Bobcats smaller, but likely better defensively. Vincent confirmed the change at shootaround Monday, saying “when you lose five games, you look at something different.” Brezec, a 7-foot-1 Slovenian and an original Bobcat, has struggled throughout this season.
The Charlotte Observer reports: If the Charlotte Bobcats really are intent on contending for the playoffs – and not just going through the motions – they better sign another big man soon. Coach Sam Vincent saw the hole in his roster in September, and things have only grown worse since then. Sean May is out for the season. Othella Harrington?s knee is still at least a month away from strong. Ryan Hollins is day-to-day with a bad shoulder. Primoz Brezec has regressed. Jermareo Davidson is a kid in need of muscle.
The Charlotte Observer reports: And perhaps there really isn’t a free agent good enough to justify a contract, plus cutting a player with a guarantee (Harrington or Derek Anderson?) to open a roster spot. I do know this: The Bobcats have about a $51 million payroll, at the bottom of the NBA, and the lack of depth inside is bordering on the absurd.
Charlotte Bobcats forward Adam Morrison underwent successful anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery this morning to repair the tear in his left knee. The procedure was performed by team physician Dr. Glenn Perry at Presbyterian Orthopedic Hospital in Charlotte. He will remain in the hospital until Monday before being cleared to begin full rehabilitation.
Morrison suffered the injury with 5:23 left in the third quarter of the Bobcats preseason contest against the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday, Oct. 20. X-rays taken immediately following that game came back negative, but an MRI taken the following day showed a partial to complete tear of the ACL.
