Mavericks re-sign Marquese Chriss to another 10-day contract

The Dallas Mavericks have signed forward Marquese Chriss to a third 10-day contract under the COVID-related hardship allowance.

Chriss (6-9, 240) signed his first 10-day with the Mavericks on Dec. 21 and a second 10-day contract on Dec. 31. He has averaged 6.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 11.9 minutes in 10 games with Dallas, and posted a season-high 15 points (6-9 FG, 3-3 3FG) and 7 rebounds at Oklahoma City on Jan. 2

Chriss was selected by Sacramento with the eighth overall pick of the 2016 NBA Draft and subsequently traded to Phoenix, where he earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors in his first season. Chriss played collegiately for one season at Washington.

Mavericks waive JaQuori McLaughlin

The Dallas Mavericks have waived guard JaQuori McLaughlin.

McLaughlin (6-4, 190) signed a two-way contract with Dallas on Sept. 3 after going undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft. The rookie guard saw action in four games this season.

The Port Angeles, Washington, native finished his collegiate career at UC Santa Barbara, where he helped the Gauchos win the Big West regular season and tournament titles in his senior year. He averaged 16.0 points (.488 FG%, .408 3FG%), 3.5 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.5 steals per game en route to being named the Big West Player of the Year and an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American in his final collegiate season.

Mavericks sign Theo Pinson to two-way contract

The Dallas Mavericks have signed guard/forward Theo Pinson to a two-way contract. This after having previously signed him to consecutive 10-day contracts under the COVID-related hardship allowance.

Pinson (6-5, 212) signed his first 10-day on Dec. 20 and has averaged 2.5 points, 1.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 9.3 minutes in 10 games. He recorded seven points, four rebounds, three assists, a career-high four steals and one block in his Mavericks debut against Minnesota on Dec. 21. His four steals, which came in a 114-102 Mavericks win, were the most ever by a Dallas player in his debut with the team. He also had nine points in consecutive games vs. Milwaukee on Dec. 23 and at Utah on Dec. 25.

Pinson spent the beginning of this season with the Maine Celtics of the NBA G League, where he was averaging 16.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.3 steals across 12 appearances (all starts).

Pinson played the last two seasons with the New York Knicks after signing with the Brooklyn Nets as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2018.

The Greensboro, North Carolina, native played four years at the University of North Carolina and helped the Tar Heels win the 2017 NCAA Championship.

He recorded seven points, four rebounds, three assists, a career-high four steals and one block in his Mavericks debut against Minnesota on Dec. 21. His four steals, which came in a 114-102 Mavericks win, were the most ever by a Dallas player in his debut with the team.

Chriss (6-9, 240) signed his first 10-day with the Mavericks on Dec. 21 and has averaged 6.3 points (.550 FG), 4.8 rebounds and 12.3 minutes in four games with the club. The Sacramento native posted 13 points (6-11 FG), five boards and two steals in his second game with the team against Milwaukee on Dec. 23.

Mavericks sign Isaiah Thomas to a 10-day contract

The Dallas Mavericks have signed guard Isaiah Thomas to a 10-day contract, under the COVID-related hardship allowance.

Thomas (5-9, 185) is an 11-year veteran with career averages of 18.0 points (.435 FG, .362 3FG, .872 FT), 2.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 28.8 minutes in 532 games (362 starts) with Sacramento, Phoenix, Boston, Cleveland, the L.A. Lakers, Denver, Washington and New Orleans. He recently signed a 10-day contract with the Lakers on Dec. 17 and averaged 9.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 25.3 minutes in four games (1 start) in his second stint with the franchise.

Thomas enjoyed his best statistical seasons as a member of the Boston Celtics, where he was a two-time All-Star (2016, 2017) and averaged 24.7 points, 6.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 32.2 minutes in 179 games (155 starts) with the franchise. He averaged a career-best 28.9 points for Boston in 2016-17, ranking third in the league in scoring behind Russell Westbrook (31.6 ppg) and James Harden (29.1 ppg), who finished first and second, respectively, in voting for the 2016-17 NBA Most Valuable Player Award. Thomas, who finished fifth in MVP voting that year, was named to the 2016-17 All-NBA Second Team.

The 5-9 guard was selected by Sacramento with the final pick (60th overall selection) of the 2011 NBA Draft and went on to earn NBA All-Rookie Second Team accolades for the Kings in 2011-12.

A native of Tacoma, Washington, Thomas played three seasons at the University of Washington, where he was named First Team All-Pac-10 as both a sophomore and a junior (2010, 2011). Thomas also earned Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and Second Team All-Pac-10 honors for the Huskies (2009).

Thomas will wear No. 2 for the Mavericks – the same number he donned at Washington and had retired by the school in 2018.

Mavericks waive Eugene Omoruyi

The Dallas Mavericks have requested waivers on forward Eugene Omoruyi.

Omoruyi (6-6, 235) signed a two-way contract with Dallas on Aug. 13 after going undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft. He averaged 1.8 points and 1.8 rebounds in four games with the Mavericks. Omoruyi recently underwent surgery on his right big toe after suffering an injury in a Texas Legends game on Dec. 15. He is expected to make a full recovery and return to basketball activities in four to six months.

Omoruyi finished his collegiate career at Oregon, where he earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors, after playing three seasons at Rutgers. In his four-year collegiate career, Omoruyi averaged 9.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.9 steals and 22.8 minutes in 121 games (72 starts).

The Dallas Mavericks have signed guard Charlie Brown Jr. to a 10-day contract, under the COVID-related hardship allowance.

Brown Jr. (6-6, 199) appeared in 10 games for the Atlanta Hawks during the 2019-20 campaign, averaging 2.0 points. He has also been on the rosters of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder since going undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Dallas Mavericks sign George King to a 10-day contract

The Dallas Mavericks have signed forward/guard George King to a 10-day contract, under the COVID-related hardship allowance.

King (6-6, 225) joins Dallas after beginning the year with the G League’s Agua Caliente Clippers, where he averaged 13.7 points (.534 FG%, .466 3FG%, .818 FT%), 5.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.7 steals and 31.3 minutes in 11 games (9 starts).

King was selected by Phoenix in the second round (59th overall pick) of the 2018 NBA Draft and appeared in one NBA game for the Suns as a rookie. As a two-way player, he spent the majority of his rookie season with the club’s G League affiliate, the Northern Arizona Suns, before signing to play overseas in 2019-20.

The Fayetteville, North Carolina, native spent the last three seasons playing professionally in Italy, Poland and Germany, before joining Agua Caliente prior to the start of the 2021-22 campaign.

King was a four-year player at the University of Colorado, where he was named the Pac-12 Most Improved Player in 2016 and Second Team All-Pac-12 in 2018. He finished his college career ranked in top 20 in school history in points (1,294) and rebounds (681) and in the top 5 in 3-pointers made (181) and 3-point field goal percentage (.401).

King will wear #94 for the Mavericks.

Chriss (6-9, 240) holds career averages of 8.0 points (45.5% FG, 28.9% 3-PT, 66.7% FT), 4.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 19.3 minutes in 258 games (147 starts) with Phoenix, Houston, Cleveland and Golden State. He averaged 6.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in two games for Golden State in 2020-21 before suffering a season-ending injury to his right leg.

Chriss was selected by Sacramento with the eighth overall pick of the 2016 NBA Draft and subsequently traded to Phoenix, where he earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors in his first season. Chriss played collegiately for one season at Washington.

Chriss will wear #32 for the Mavericks.
