A judge has dismissed a lawsuit in which former Dallas Mavericks owner Ross Perot Jr. accused current owner Mark Cuban of mismanaging the team.
State District Judge Craig Smith signed an order in Dallas on Thursday granting Cuban’s motion for summary judgment and denying all of Perot’s claims.
Perot filed the lawsuit in 2010, alleging that the Mavericks were insolvent and that a receiver should be appointed to manage their finances.

Josh Howard announced that he will host an all-star charity basketball game in Dallas, Texas featuring an all-star cast of professional basketball players. The Josh Howard Celebrity All-Star Basketball Game Presented by Free Move Texas will be held Saturday, Nov. 12, 6 p.m., at the P.C. Cobb Center, at the city’s fair grounds.
On November 11 it was announced that Howard has added Kevin Durant to the lineup. Dallas-area fans will be treated to basketball at its best in the charity game featuring Josh Howard, Kevin Durant, John Wall, LaMarcus Aldridge and many others at the P.C. Cobb Center and via live web-stream on TheBasketballChannel.net. Tip-off is 6 p.m. Central Time / 7 p.m. Eastern Time.

Dirk Nowitzki plans to return to Germany to train with his personal coach after watching his hometown Texas Rangers play in the World Series—unless there’s progress toward starting the NBA season.
Nowitzki has said he would wait until early 2012 before considering playing for a European team. With only training camp and the first two weeks of the season canceled so far because of the NBA lockout, he is keeping to that timetable.
“It’s time to really get back in the routine,” he said after throwing out the first pitch for Game 3 of the World Series between the Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday night. “Got to keep the options open, maybe see what’s going on overseas.” …
Nowitzki is still wearing a splint on the middle finger of his left hand— an injury he sustained during Game 2 of the NBA finals the Miami Heat. He aggravated it while playing for Germany in the European championships last month.

Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki will be throwing out a World Series first pitch after all.
After it emerged earlier Wednesday that the Rangers’ desire to have Nowitzki throw out the first pitch before one of their home games against the St. Louis Cardinals had been rejected by Major League Baseball, league officials reversed course and announced hours later that Nowitzki would be invited to throw the ceremonial pitch before Saturday’s Game 3.
MLB spokesman Pat Courtney, after earlier in the day confirming that the Rangers’ request to bestow first-pitch honors on Nowitzki had been denied, said commissioner Bud Selig was not involved in the original veto and ordered the reversal.
Nowitzki quickly accepted the fresh invite Wednesday night, not long after taking to Twitter to thank fans for their backing in the wake of ESPNDallas.com’s original report that the NBA Finals MVP was not deemed to be a suitable first-pitch thrower.

NBA owners and players are meeting for a second straight day, shortly after finishing a 16-hour marathon with a federal mediator.
The sides resumed talks about 10 a.m. Wednesday, about eight hours after they broke for the night.
No bargaining had been expected Wednesday or Thursday, since the owners have board meetings. But instead their labor relations committee came back for further discussions with the players’ association executive committee.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, after careful deliberation, has decided that the Mavericks will receive championship rings for their title that was won in June.
By “careful deliberation,” we mean it probably came after one night of partying with the players after the Miami series. Back when those things were legal.
As you recall, Cuban had an off-the-cuff remark after the championship series against Miami that he thought rings had become too old-school for this day and age.

The Lakers are going to have their own network, why not the Mavericks?
That’s the feeling from Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who spoke to Multichannel News.
When asked about creating a Mavs network, Cuban said, “Yeah of course, when my deal is up. Absolutely. I think Time Warner [Cable] is kind of our incumbent [in the Dallas area] and HD Net is not on Time Warner. So will I package the two to get one? Absolutely.”
It likely wouldn’t happen soon. The Mavericks have a deal with Fox Sports Southwest through the 2016-17 season.
The Lakers and Time Warner Cable reached a deal in February launch two regional sports TV networks that will carry all locally available Lakers games, including one in Spanish. The networks are scheduled to begin in time for the 2012-13 season.

Had there been no lockout or at least a quick solution, the Mavs might have been making plans to spend the afternoon of Oct. 21 at the White House for their championship visit. The Mavs were supposed to be Washington D.C. that night to face the Wizards in a preseason game. Of course, as the lockout dragged on there were no plans made for the big event for obvious reasons.
It certainly would be a shame if the lockout ruined any chance for the Mavs to pose with President Obama. The regular-season schedule has the Mavs playing at the Wizards on Jan. 10, the first night of a scheduled back-to-back that finishes in Boston.

The NBA announced today that player training camps for the 2011-12 season have been postponed indefinitely because a new collective bargaining agreement has not been reached with the National Basketball Players Association. Training camps were scheduled to open on October 3.
In addition, the league canceled all preseason games scheduled from October 9 through October 15.
“We have regretfully reached the point on the calendar where we are not able to open training camps on time and need to cancel the first week of preseason games,” said NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver. “We will make further decisions as warranted.”

Dallas Mavericks forward Rudy Fernandez has signed with Real Madrid’s basketball team during the NBA lockout.
Madrid says Fernandez has agreed to play in Spain during the labor negotiations. The deal includes an option for Fernandez to play with Madrid once his contract with the NBA champions ends.
Dallas acquired Fernandez in June after three seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers.
