David Lee not mad about past trade rumors

Here’s the Bay Area News Group reporting on the Golden State Warriors:

Warriors forward David Lee heard the offseason trade rumors involving Kevin Love and said they didn’t leave him feeling unwanted by the team.

“There was no hard feelings,” Lee said Monday. “There can’t be. Our front office is trying to improve the team, and Kevin Love is a great player.

“It happened, and I’m not mad at anybody. I don’t feel bad. It’s just this is a business.”

Lee, the Warriors’ highest-paid player making $15 million this salary, would have likely been shipped to Minnesota had the trade gotten done. Instead, Love was dealt to Cleveland and Lee got to joke about pondering a move to the Midwest that wasn’t to be.

2014-2015 Warriors slate alternate uniforms

The Golden State Warriors alternate uniforms for the 2014-15 season were unveiled tonight.

The Warriors 2014-15 alternate uniforms feature a new color for the NBA, Slate, which is being added to the team’s identity for the 2014-15 season. Slate represents not only the technology and innovation synonymous with the Bay Area, but also the body armor for the team on the court.

The Warriors will debut the Slate Alternate Uniforms when the team faces the Charlotte Hornets at home on Saturday, November 15, and continue to wear the Slate Alternate Uniforms on Saturday games throughout the 2014-15 regular season (Does not include Opening Night).

New coach Steve Kerr set to lead Warriors

Here’s the San Francisco Chronicle reporting on the Warriors, who begin a new journey under head coach Steve Kerr:

Kerr said he’ll use elements of the triangle offense from Chicago, the ball movement that distinguishes San Antonio, the fast pace Phoenix used when Kerr was GM and assistant coach Alvin Gentry was leading the show and even plays from last year’s Warriors team that were successful.

The common idea will be to push the ball ahead to the wings in an effort to attack a retreating defense. If there’s no shot there, the ball will cycle around the court and back into point guard Stephen Curry’s hands – where a designed play will commence. Finally, Curry can go back to the old pick-and-roll if it gets late in the shot clock.

Through it all, Kerr will focus on ball movement.

Ball movement has “always been my philosophy,” Kerr said. “That’s always been a part of my basketball DNA and my belief system.”

Adonal Foyle named Community Ambassador for Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors announced today that Adonal Foyle will serve as a Community Ambassador for the team. Foyle, who is one of only six players in franchise history to play 10 seasons in a Warriors uniform (1997–2007), will join current Warriors Community Ambassadors and Legends, Alvin Attles and Nate Thurmond, to support community efforts throughout the Bay Area. Foyle will participate in a variety of Warriors-related initiatives to give back to the Bay Area community through programs focused on education, health & fitness, social responsibility and cultural diversity and the arts.

Foyle was originally drafted by the Warriors with the eighth pick in the 1997 NBA Draft. Over the next 10 seasons, he appeared in 641 games with Golden State, averaging 4.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.78 blocks per game. To this day, he remains the Warriors all-time leader in blocked shots (1,140), while ranking seventh on the team’s all-time games played list. After leaving the Warriors, Foyle played two more NBA seasons, appearing in 82 games with the Orlando Magic in 2007-08 and a total of 10 games combined between the Magic and Memphis Grizzlies in 2008-09. He finished his 12-year professional career with averages of 4.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.63 blocks over 733 regular-season games.

During the 2001-02 season, Foyle received the Warriors Community Service Award, which was presented to the player who best exemplified the spirit of community service through his outstanding commitment of time, dedication and financial support to children and families in the Bay Area community. Foyle also received the NBA’s Community Assist monthly award twice during his NBA career, earning the recognition in 2002 and 2004. In addition, Foyle has been recognized multiple times by The Sporting News as one of the “Good Guys” in sports, highlighting his outstanding character and exemplary civic responsibility.

In 2003, Foyle founded the Kerosene Lamp Foundation (KLF), whose mission is to empower youth to grow into healthy and well-educated adults. KLF uses basketball as a bridge to the next generation, promoting education and health awareness, providing free athletics and academics camps, mentoring at-risk student-athletes and building/refurbishing basketball courts. To date, KLF has directly reached over 5,000 children in the Caribbean and USA.

In 2009, Foyle was inducted into the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame for his work throughout his career, particularly for his work with the Kerosene Lamp Foundation.

Foyle, who has maintained a home in the East Bay since his playing days with the Warriors, most recently served as a Director of Player Development for the Orlando Magic for two seasons (2010-12).

Warriors, Jerry West reach new deal

Here’s the San Jose Mercury News reporting on the Golden State Warriors. Apparently a legend will stick around as an executive:

Warriors executive board member Jerry West has agreed to a two-year extension with the team through the 2016-17 season, an NBA source confirmed to this newspaper Wednesday.

West had one year remaining on his original deal with the team, and this new deal will be tacked on for a total of a three-year commitment from this point.

This move, coupled with the new deal for general manager Bob Myers through the 2017-18 season, puts a bow on co-owner Joe Lacob’s desire to keep his front office together for the long term as the team gets set to move into a San Francisco arena by 2018.

West, 76, had told associates recently that he was thinking about retiring for good, especially after the chaos of the Warriors’ 51-win season and subsequent firing of coach Mark Jackson.

Warriors sign Leandro Barbosa

The Golden State Warriors have signed free agent guard Leandro Barbosa to a contract, the team announced today.

Barbosa, 31, appeared in 20 games with the Phoenix Suns last season, averaging 7.5 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 18.4 minutes per contest. The Sao Paulo, Brazil, native spent the first part of the year with Sao Paulo-based Pinheiros/Sky, tallying averages of 15.9 points and 3.1 assists in eight Brazilian League games.

An 11-year NBA veteran, Barbosa owns career marks of 11.9 points, 2.3 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 23.7 minutes in 649 games (111 starts) with the Suns, Toronto Raptors, Indiana Pacers and Boston Celtics. The 6’3” guard, who ranks 23rd among active players in three-point percentage (.390), has made postseason berths in six of his 11 campaigns (five with Phoenix, one with Indiana), helping the Suns to Western Conference Finals appearances in 2005, 2006 and 2010. In 2006-07, Barbosa earned the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award after posting career highs of 18.1 points and 4.0 assists to go with 2.7 rebounds and 1.20 steals in 80 games (12 starts) with the Suns, converting on 43.4 percent of his three-point attempts (7th in the NBA).

Originally selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round (28th overall) of the 2003 NBA Draft, Barbosa played professionally in Brazil from 1999-2003, making his professional debut with Palmeiras in Brazil’s second division in 1999-2000 and earning Brazilian League Rookie of the Year honors with Baura Tilibra in 2001-02. He recently competed with the Brazilian National Team in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, averaging 11.9 points in seven games and helping Brazil advance to the quarterfinals.

The Warriors roster currently stands at 18 players.

Warriors sign guard Justin Holiday

The Golden State Warriors have signed free agent guard Justin Holiday, the team announced today.

Holiday played for the Warriors at the 2014 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, starting all five games and averaging a team-high 14.8 points to go with 5.0 rebounds in 22.8 minutes.

Holiday, 25, played professionally last season in Hungary, where he posted averages of 12.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 50 games with Szolnok. The 6’6” guard has previous NBA experience with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2012-13, appearing in nine contests and averaging 4.7 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 15.8 minutes. He spent the rest of the 2012-13 campaign with the Idaho Stampede of the NBA D-League, tallying 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and a league-leading 2.43 steals in 34.7 minutes over 47 games, earning 2013 All-NBA D-League Third Team and All-NBA D-League Defensive Second Team honors. Following a four-year career at the University of Washington, the Mission Hills, CA, native made his professional debut with Aalstar in Belgium during the 2011-12 season after going unselected in the 2011 NBA Draft.

Holiday will wear uniform #7. The Warriors roster currently stands at 17 players.

Warriors reach extension with GM Bob Myers

Here’s the San Francisco Chronicle blog reporting on the Golden State Warriors:

The Warriors and Bob Myers agreed to a three-year extension that will keep the general manager through at the least the 2017-18 season, a team source confirmed late Thursday night. The agreement was actually reached weeks ago, and the Bay Area News Group first reported it Thursday.

Myers, a longtime agent, was hired as the Warriors’ assistant GM in 2011 and was promoted to the lead role a year later. He’s helped shape a team that has made consecutive playoff appearances, and he was part of the management group that grabbed new head coach Steve Kerr this summer when it appeared Kerr was set to join Phil Jackson in New York.

Warriors sign Aaron Craft, James Michael McAdoo and Mitchell Watt

The Golden State Warriors have signed free agent guard Aaron Craft, along with free agent forwards James Michael McAdoo and Mitchell Watt to contracts, the team announced today.

All three rookies played for the Warriors at the 2014 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

Craft, 23, played four seasons collegiately at Ohio State, where he earned the NABC and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year awards this past season as a senior. The 6’2” guard amassed career averages of 8.9 points, 4.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals in 148 games (second most in school history) and was named to the Big Ten All-Defensive Team in each of his four seasons. With the Warriors Summer League squad, the Findlay, OH, native averaged 7.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.60 steals and 22.2 minutes off the bench over five games. He led the team in assists and steals during the Summer League.

McAdoo, 21, played three seasons at the University of North Carolina, amassing career averages of 11.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.22 steals in 24.9 minutes over 108 games. Last season, as a junior, the 6’9” forward earned Second Team All-ACC honors after averaging 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.32 steals in 34 contests. In five games with the Warriors Summer League team (all starts), the Norfolk, VA, native averaged 9.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.00 steal and 1.20 blocks in a team-leading 29.0 minutes per game. McAdoo’s father, Ronnie, is a member of Old Dominion University’s Hall of Fame and played professionally in France, Spain and Japan.

Watt, 24, has played professionally the last two seasons in Israel, averaging 13.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.4 blocks in 34 games last season with Ironi Nes Ziona. Prior to making his professional debut with Galil Gilboa in 2012-13, Watt played collegiately for four seasons at the University of Buffalo. As a senior in 2011-12, the 6’10” forward averaged 16.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.2 blocks over 31 games en route to earning MAC Player of the Year honors and All-MAC First Team recognition.

Craft will wear uniform #2, McAdoo #20 and Watt #21. The Warriors roster currently stands at 16 players.
