Celtics, Warriors, Heat trade Joel Anthony, Jordan Crawford, Toney Douglas, MarShon Brooks

The Boston Celtics announced today that they have completed a three-team deal with Golden State and Miami. The Celtics have acquired center Joel Anthony, a conditional future Philadelphia first round draft pick, Miami’s 2016 second round draft pick and cash considerations; Miami acquires guard Toney Douglas and Golden State acquires guard Jordan Crawford and guard/forward MarShon Brooks.

“It’s always difficult trading a player like Joel who was a big part of the past two championship teams and will always be a part of the Miami HEAT family,” said HEAT President Pat Riley. “This trade gives us great flexibility moving forward in our journey to win an NBA Championship. Joel was a true professional who worked hard every day and we wish him the best in the future.”

Anthony, a 6’9” center, has appeared in 12 games for the Heat this season and has recorded six points, seven rebounds and four blocks in 37 minutes of action. He has posted career averages of 2.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 16.5 minutes per game. A member of Miami’s two past NBA Championship teams; he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Heat on July 3, 2007 after playing two seasons collegiately at UNLV and a season at Pensacola Junior College in Florida.

Crawford, 25, appeared in 39 games with Boston this season (35 starts), averaging 13.7 points, a career-high 5.7 assists and 3.1 rebounds per contest, leading the Celtics in assists. He was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the week ending December 8, averaging 23.3 points on 61.0 percent shooting to go along with 6.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds over three games, including a 23-point effort against the New York Knicks on December 8 in which he connected on a career-high six three pointers. On November 29 versus Cleveland, the 6’4” guard posted his third career triple-double, registering 11 points, a career-high-tying 11 rebounds and 10 assists. He has scored 20-or-more points eight times this season, including a season-high 25-point effort on December 3 versus Milwaukee.

Originally selected by the New Jersey Nets with the 27th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, Crawford owns career NBA averages of 12.9 points, 3.5 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 26.4 minutes over 215 games (99 starts) in four seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards and Boston Celtics. He had his finest NBA season to date in 2011-12 with Washington, averaging a career-high 14.7 points, 3.0 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 64 games, including 16.4 points per contest in 32 starting assignments.

Brooks, a 6’5” guard/forward, has appeared in 10 games for the Celtics this season and has posted averages of 3.1 points and 1.9 rebounds in 7.3 minutes per game. He was originally drafted by the Celtics with the 25th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft and was traded on draft night. He was reacquired by the Celtics in a trade with Brooklyn on July 12, 2013.

Warriors recall guard Nemanja Nedovic from D-League

The Golden State Warriors have recalled guard Nemanja Nedovic from the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA Development League, the team announced today.

Nedovic was assigned to Santa Cruz on December 28 and played in three games with the club, averaging 11.7 points, 3.0 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.67 steals in 23.0 minutes. The rookie point guard holds season averages of 19.0 points, 3.6 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.60 steals in 29.2 minutes over five games in the D-League.

Philadelphia 76ers forward Thaddeus Young and Golden State Warriors forward David Lee today were named NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Dec. 30, through Sunday, Jan. 5.

Young helped the 76ers to a 3-0 week, with all three wins coming on the road. He averaged a conference-best 25.0 points on .566 shooting from the field (ninth in the conference), 7.7 rebounds, and tied for the league lead with 3.67 steals. Young’s balanced play on Jan. 2 – 28 points, seven rebounds, six steals and four assists – keyed Philadelphia’s 113-104 win over the Sacramento Kings.

Lee averaged 24.5 points (sixth in the conference), 10.5 rebounds (sixth in the conference) and 3.5 assists in helping the Warriors to a 4-0 week. He posted two point-rebound double-doubles on the week, including tying a season-high with 32 points to go alongside 14 rebounds on Jan. 2, during a 123-114 win over the Miami Heat. All four of the Warriors’ wins came away from Oracle Arena, extending their road winning streak to six games, and their overall winning streak to nine games.

Other nominees for the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Brooklyn’s Deron Williams, Los Angeles Lakers’ Pau Gasol, Miami’s LeBron James, New York’s Carmelo Anthony and Iman Shumpert, Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant, Phoenix’s Goran Dragic and Toronto’s Kyle Lowry.

Warriors assign Ognjen Kuzmic and Nemanja Nedovic to D-League

The Golden State Warriors have assigned center Ognjen Kuzmic and guard Nemanja Nedovic to the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA Development League, the team announced today. The rookies will join the team prior to tonight’s game against the Bakersfield Jam in Bakersfield.

Nedovic has appeared in two games this season with Santa Cruz while on previous assignments, averaging 30.0 points and 4.5 assists in 38.5 minutes per contest. Kuzmic has not played in a game with Santa Cruz this season and has missed Golden State’s last 19 contests due to a fifth metacarpal fracture in his right hand and subsequent surgery on November 26.

NBA says Blake Griffin should not have been ejected from Clippers vs Warriors game

Rod Thorn, NBA President, Basketball Operations, issued the following statement today regarding the ejection of Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin with 10:43 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Golden State Warriors’ 105-103 win over the Clippers on Dec. 25, at Oracle Arena:

“After a league review of the Clippers-Warriors game, we have come to the conclusion that Blake Griffin should not have been ejected from the game. A common foul should have been called on Griffin for initially attempting to dislodge the Warriors’ Andrew Bogut and a technical foul should have been assessed to Bogut for grabbing Griffin by the shirt and wrestling with him.”

According to the Associated Press, “With Griffin gone, the Clippers missed several key chances in the waning moments. “If you look at it, I didn’t do anything and I got thrown out of the game. It all boils down to they (referees) fell for it,” Griffin said after the game. “To me, it’s cowardly basketball. I don’t know their intentions, but it worked. … If I knew the answer I’d probably be in a different position. Tonight I got two technicals for nothing.”

The Golden State Warriors have recalled guard Nemanja Nedovic from the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA Development League, the team announced today. He will be in uniform for tonight’s game versus the Los Angeles Lakers at Oracle Arena.

Last night, the rookie guard tallied 29 points (9-17 FG, 4-10 3FG, 7-7 FT), six assists, three rebounds and two steals in 42 minutes for Santa Cruz in a 108-123 loss at Bakersfield.

Warriors assign Nemanja Nedovic to D-League

The Golden State Warriors have assigned guard Nemanja Nedovic to the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA Development League, the team announced today. The rookie guard will be in uniform for the team’s game tonight against the Bakersfield Jam in Bakersfield.

Nedovic has appeared in one game this season with Santa Cruz while on previous assignment, registering 31 points in 36 minutes in a victory over the Austin Toros on November 24.

Warriors center Jermaine O`Neal out after wrist surgery

Golden State Warriors center Jermaine O’Neal underwent successful arthroscopic surgery this morning to address a torn ligament in his right wrist, the team announced.

Following the procedure, which was performed by Dr. Jeff Yao at the Stanford Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Clinic, O’Neal will begin rehabilitation immediately and his progress will be monitored throughout the recovery process.

O’Neal has appeared in 17 games this season (one start), averaging 6.2 points and 4.5 rebounds in 18.6 minutes per contest.

It isn’t clear how long O’Neal will be out. Usually, an NBA team provides an estimate after surgery takes place, but perhaps it’s not yet known by the squad how much time the veteran may miss.

Warriors center Jermaine O’Neal will undergo arthroscopic surgery tomorrow (12/13) to address a torn ligament in his right wrist. A timetable for his return will be determined following the procedure.

O’Neal, who did not play in last night’s game against the Dallas Mavericks due to a sprained right wrist, has appeared in 17 games this season (one start), averaging 6.2 points and 4.5 rebounds in 18.6 minutes per contest.
