Three-team NBA trade sends Steven Adams and Eric Bledsoe to Grizzlies, Jonas Valanciunas to Pelicans

The Memphis Grizzlies have acquired center Steven Adams, guard Eric Bledsoe, the draft rights to wing Ziaire Williams (the 10th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft) and a protected 2022 first round draft pick (via Los Angeles Lakers) from the New Orleans Pelicans as part of a three-team trade also involving the Charlotte Hornets. Memphis also received from New Orleans the draft rights to guard Jared Butler (the 40th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft) for his inclusion in a trade agreed to in principle and to be completed later.

In exchange, the Grizzlies traded center Jonas Valančiūnas, the draft rights to forward Trey Murphy (the 17th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft) and the draft rights to guard Brandon Boston (the 51st overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft) to the Pelicans and traded the draft rights to Tyler Harvey (the 51st overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft) to the Hornets.

In addition, the Hornets traded guard Devonte’ Graham to the Pelicans. The Pelicans traded wing Wesley Iwundu and a protected 2022 first round pick to the Hornets.

Adams (6-11, 265) has competed in 588 games (524 starts) and holds career averages of 9.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 26.9 minutes in his eight-year NBA career with the Pelicans and Oklahoma City Thunder. The New Zealand native started all 58 appearances for New Orleans last season and averaged 7.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 27.7 minutes. Selected 12th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft out of the University of Pittsburgh, the 28-year-old ranks seventh in NBA history in field goal percentage (.591).

Bledsoe (6-1, 214) has appeared in 702 games (539 starts) and owns career averages of 14.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 28.0 minutes in his 11-year NBA career with the Pelicans, Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Clippers. Selected 18th overall in the 2010 NBA Draft out of the University of Kentucky, the 31-year-old averaged 12.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 29.7 minutes in 71 games (70 starts) for New Orleans last season.

Williams (6-8 ¼, 185) was named a top-10 finalist for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award last season as a freshman at Stanford University, where he averaged 10.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 27.8 minutes in 20 games. The 19-year-old California native recorded the second triple-double in program history with 12 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists on Jan. 7 vs. Washington and earned Naismith Trophy Player of the Week honors on Jan. 11.

Valančiūnas (6-11 ¼, 265) has competed in 621 games (592 starts) and holds career averages of 12.9 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 25.6 minutes in his nine-year NBA career with the Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors. Selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, the 29-year-old Lithuania native averaged 16.4 points, 11.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 27.3 minutes in 151 games (148 starts) over two-plus seasons in Memphis.

Grizzlies sign guard Tim Frazier for remainder of season

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed guard Tim Frazier for the remainder of the 2020-21 season.

Frazier (6-1, 170) has appeared in three games for the Grizzlies and has totaled four points, four rebounds and seven assists in 33 minutes after originally signing with the team on Jan. 4 and again to a 10-day contract on April 14. The 30-year-old has played 275 games (81 starts) over seven NBA seasons and holds career averages of 5.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 17.6 minutes with seven different teams.

Unselected in the 2014 NBA Draft, Frazier was named the 2014-15 NBA G League Most Valuable Player and NBA G League Rookie of the Year as a member of the Maine Red Claws. The Houston native finished his collegiate career at Penn State University as the program’s all-time leader in assists.

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed guard Tim Frazier to a 10-day contract.

Frazier (6-1, 170) appeared in three games for the Grizzlies earlier this season, totaling four points, four rebounds and seven assists in 33 minutes. The 30-year-old has competed in 275 regular season games (81 starts) over seven NBA seasons and holds career averages of 5.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 17.6 minutes for seven different teams.

Grizzlies waive Gorgui Dieng

The Memphis Grizzlies waived center Gorgui Dieng today.

Dieng (6-10, 252) appeared in 39 games (one start) over parts of two seasons in Memphis and averaged 7.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 17.7 minutes after he was acquired by the Grizzlies from the Minnesota Timberwolves on Feb. 6, 2020.

Selected with the 21st overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, the 31-year-old has competed in 537 regular season games (205 starts) over his eight-year NBA career and has averaged 7.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 21.8 minutes. A native of Senegal, Dieng won the 2013 NCAA Championship as a junior at the University of Louisville.

Bulls vs. Grizzlies game scheduled for January 27, 2021 is postponed

The National Basketball Association game scheduled for this Wednesday, January 27, 2021 between the Chicago Bulls and Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum has been postponed in accordance with the league’s Health and Safety Protocols.

The game is being postponed due to contact tracing within the Grizzlies and the length of time preceding the game during which Memphis will be unable to practice.

Grizzlies games scheduled for January 22, 24 and 25 are postponed

The Memphis Grizzlies’ next three games — Friday, Jan. 22 at Portland and Sunday, Jan. 24 and Monday, Jan. 25 vs. Sacramento — have been postponed in accordance with the NBA’s Health and Safety Protocols.

The games are being postponed due to unavailable players for the Grizzlies and contact tracing for other players on their roster, and in order to ensure the health and safety of players on both teams.

Grizzlies vs. Timberwolves game scheduled for January 15, 2021 is postponed

The NBA game scheduled for tonight between the Memphis Grizzlies and Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center has been postponed in accordance with the league’s Health and Safety Protocols.

Because of ongoing contact tracing within the Timberwolves, the team does not have the league-required eight available players to proceed with tonight’s game against the Grizzlies.

Grizzlies sign guard Tim Frazier

The Memphis Grizzlies signed guard Tim Frazier today, thanks to the NBA’s hardship roster rules regarding player injuries.

Frazier (6-1, 170) has appeared in 272 regular season games (81 starts) for six different franchises and holds career averages of 5.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 17.7 minutes in six NBA seasons (2014-20). The 30-year-old competed in 27 games (11 starts) for the Detroit Pistons last season and averaged 3.6 points, 1.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 13.1 minutes.

A native of Houston, Frazier began his professional career with the NBA G League’s Maine Red Claws, where he averaged 16.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 9.5 assists and 1.66 steals in 35.6 minutes in 41 games (40 starts) during the 2014-15 season. Frazier was named the 2014-15 NBA G League Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year and was selected to the All-NBA G League First Team and NBA G League All-Star squad. He played eight more games for the Red Claws during the 2015-16 season.

Frazier is the all-time leader in assists at Penn State University, where he received All-Big Ten First Team and All-Big Ten Defensive Team honors as a junior in 2012. He went unselected in the 2014 NBA Draft following his redshirt senior year.
