Here’s the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporting on the Bucks’ jersey retirement ceremony for Bobby Dandridge:

Bobby Dandridge said he was trying to stay emotionless in the hours before his No. 10 jersey was to be retired by the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night.

Speaking fondly of his nine seasons with the Bucks, though, the tears that welled up in the 67-year-old’s eyes betrayed him.

“My family’s here, friends have come in from out of town and my friends and the fans here in Milwaukee are real special,” Dandridge said during a halftime ceremony at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. “I’ll try to hold back the emotions, try not to tremble too much, but this is probably the greatest honor that I have received as a professional athlete.”

After being introduced by his friend and former teammate Oscar Robertson, who drew a roar from the crowd by saying Dandridge deserved to be considered for the Hall of Fame, Dandridge succeeded in holding his emotions in check.

Hawks end Bucks` home winning streak

Milwaukee’s seven-game home winning streak came to an end Sunday afternoon at the hands of the Eastern Conference-leading Atlanta Hawks.

The Bucks dug out of a deep hole to tie the game in the third quarter but could not survive a fourth-quarter surge by the Hawks and dropped a 97-86 decision at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Kyle Korver found his shooting touch and Paul Millsap finished with 23 points and 15 rebounds as the Hawks (44-12) avoided a three-game skid.

All five Hawks starters were in double figures, including Al Horford with 15 points, Korver with 12 and DeMarre Carroll and Jeff Teague with 10 each.

Last week general manager John Hammond said it was all about the future with the Milwaukee Bucks.

On Thursday, moments before the 2 p.m. trade deadline, the Bucks showed they really meant it.

Instead of standing pat with a group that has compiled a surprising 30-23 record at the all-star break, the Bucks sent leading scorer and guard Brandon Knight to Phoenix as part of a three-team deal involving the Suns and Philadelphia 76ers.

The Bucks acquired 2014 NBA Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams, a guard, from the 76ers and rookie point guard Tyler Ennis and center Miles Plumlee from the Suns in a deal designed to enhance roster and salary flexibility.

All three players are on rookie-scale contracts while Knight will be a restricted free agent this summer.

Milwaukee also sent point guard Kendall Marshall — out with a torn knee ligament — to the Suns to create a roster spot. The Bucks released veteran forward Kenyon Martin to open up another spot, making room for the three new acquisitions.

Three-team trade sends Brandon Knight to Suns, Michael Carter-Williams to Bucks

The Phoenix Suns today completed a deal to acquire guard Brandon Knight from the Milwaukee Bucks in a three-team trade also involving the Philadelphia 76ers. The Suns also acquired guard Kendall Marshall, who will be waived. As part of the deal, the Suns send guard Tyler Ennis and center Miles Plumlee to the Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers’ protected 2015 first-round pick to the 76ers; the Bucks also receive guard Michael Carter-Williams from Philadelphia.

The 23-year-old Knight is a fourth-year pro who joins the Suns in the midst of a career year, averaging 17.8 points, a career-high 5.4 assists, career-high 4.3 rebounds and career-high 1.6 steals, while shooting career-highs of 43.5 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from three-point range as he has started all 52 games with the Bucks in 2014-15. Knight departs Milwaukee as the leader in scoring and assists for a team that entered the All-Star break seven games over .500 and with 30 first-half victories after winning 15 total games in 2013-14.

Originally the eighth overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft by Detroit, Knight played the first two seasons of his career with the Pistons before being acquired by the Bucks along with Khris Middleton and Slava Kravtsov in exchange for Brandon Jennings on July 31, 2013. An All-Rookie First-Team selection in 2011-12, Knight holds career averages of 15.3 points, 4.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.00 steals in 265 games (256 starts) with the Bucks and Pistons.

An athletic 6-3 guard who boasts a nearly 6-7 wingspan, Knight was a collegiate standout in one season at the University of Kentucky in 2010-11. Knight earned All-SEC Second-Team honors after setting Kentucky freshman records in scoring and three-point field goals made. Knight was named the NCAA East Region Most Outstanding Player after helping the Wildcats reach the Final Four for the first time since 1998, ending the longest Final Four drought in the prestigious program’s history.

Philadelphia receives the Lakers’ protected 2015 first-round pick from the Suns in the deal. Phoenix initially acquired the draft pick from the Lakers as part of the sign-and-trade that sent Steve Nash to Los Angeles on July 11, 2012.

It’s always interesting to see which players get their jerseys retired by the main team they played for. If someone absolutely dominates, like Michael Jordan on the Bulls, it’s a no-brainer. But what about “regular” stars who played very well, and were a part of something special, but didn’t necessarily change the game? Those are the interesting debates. Anyway, here’s the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporting on the Bucks:

Bob Dandridge, a star forward on the Milwaukee Bucks’ NBA championship team in 1971, will have his jersey No. 10 retired at a ceremony March 7 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center, a source confirmed Wednesday.

Dandridge was a key member of the franchise’s early teams under coach Larry Costello and was selected in the fourth round of the 1969 draft, the same draft that brought the Bucks center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (then Lew Alcindor) with the No. 1 overall pick.

Known as “the Greyhound,” Dandridge averaged 18.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists in nine seasons with Milwaukee. He played his first eight seasons with the Bucks and went on to more success in four seasons with the Washington Bullets before returning to Milwaukee for his final season in 1981-’82.

Bucks doing big things on defense

Defense is not optional for the Milwaukee Bucks.

They know the scrambling, hustling, switching defense they play will keep them competitive.

Better yet, it will lead to fast-break chances and easy baskets, even a few of those crowd-pleasing dunks.

Since the start of the calendar year, the Bucks have made big strides in stopping opponents and the numbers show it.

They rank second in the league since Jan. 1 in opponents field goal percentage (41.2%) and third in opponents points (92.9). They are first in opponents three-point percentage (30.2%).

The Bucks were 21st in average points allowed in late December but have risen to fifth, lowering their mark from 101.2 to 97.1 points allowed. They are second in the league in defensive efficiency — points allowed per 100 possessions — at 99.1, behind only the Golden State Warriors at 97.8. Milwaukee is third in opponents field goal percentage (43.4%), tied with Portland.

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed guard Jorge Gutierrez to a second 10-day contract, General Manager John Hammond announced today.

Gutierrez appeared in four games for the Bucks during his first 10-day contract and averaged 4.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 14.8 minutes per game. He made one start for Milwaukee on Feb. 2 at Toronto, and on Feb. 6 at Houston, tied his career high for scoring with 13 points in the game.

Gutierrez signed his initial 10-day contract on Jan. 28.

Bucks sign Kenyon Martin for remainder of season

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed forward/center Kenyon Martin for the remainder of the 2014-15 season, General Manager John Hammond announced today. Martin has appeared in eight games for the Bucks this season and averaged 1.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in 5.9 minutes per game. Martin signed his initial 10-day contract with the Bucks on Jan. 9, and was signed to a second 10-day deal on Jan. 19.

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed guard Jorge Gutierrez to a 10-day contract, General Manager John Hammond announced today. Gutierrez is the 23rd Gatorade Call-Up of the 2014-15 NBA Development League season.

Gutierrez, 26, most recently played for the Canton Charge of the NBA D-League and in six games averaged 15.2 points, 6.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds in 35.7 minutes per game. He began the season with Brooklyn where he averaged 1.6 points in 10 games before being traded to Philadelphia on Dec. 11. He was waived by the 76ers on Dec. 12.

Undrafted out of the University of California, Gutierrez began his professional career with Canton in 2012. He started 35 games for the Charge in 2013 before being signed by the Brooklyn Nets where he appeared in 15 games and averaged 4.1 points, 2.0 assists and 1.5 rebounds.

Bucks sign Kenyon Martin to second 10-day contract

The Milwaukee Bucks (21-19 this season) have signed veteran forward/center Kenyon Martin to a second 10-day contract, General Manager John Hammond announced today.

The Bucks used Martin sparingly during his first 10-day deal. He appeared in three games during that time, averaging 2.0 points and 1.0 rebounds in 5.1 minutes per game. Martin signed his initial 10-day contract on Jan. 9.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, “a fairer test for Martin will come over the next 10 days, as the Bucks play five games. Milwaukee returns to action at home Monday night against Toronto and also plays Utah and Detroit at home this week. Then the Bucks will play at San Antonio on Sunday to open a three-game trip that also includes visits to Miami and Orlando. Martin’s second10-day deal will conclude Jan. 28, the day before the Bucks play the Magic.”

Milwaukee is enjoying a better-than-expected season, despite losing prized rookie forward Jabari Parker to a season-ending injury 25 games into his career. The team is led by point guard Brandon Knight (18.2 ppg and 5.1 apg).
