Jennings, 21, was examined by Bucks orthopaedic physician Dr. Michael Gordon following Saturday’s game vs. Utah and an MRI procedure on Sunday confirmed the diagnosis.

Jennings is expected to miss four to six weeks of action and will be re-evaluated throughout his recovery.

The AP reports:

Jennings had started every game since being picked 10th overall in 2009, a string of 107 regular-season games and seven in the postseason. He’d been averaging 17.9 points per game and 5.5 assists in 25 games this year.

Jennings said earlier in the week that he hurt himself on a drive to the basket against the Spurs when he came down awkwardly on his knee and it put pressure on his ankle. Against the Jazz, he went 3 of 7 from the field and finished with six points, four assists and three rebounds.

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed veteran center Brian Skinner (6-9, 255) to a contract, General Manager John Hammond announced today.

A 12-year NBA veteran, Skinner has played in 605 games and holds career averages of 4.8 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 49.4 percent from the field. He played in all eight 2010 preseason games for Milwaukee and averaged 1.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in 11.6 minutes per game before being waived on October 25.  Skinner spent the 2009-10 season with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he played in 16 games.

Skinner, 34, was selected by the Clippers with the 22nd overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft, and spent the first three years of his career in Los Angeles.  He has also played for Cleveland, Philadelphia, Sacramento, Portland, Phoenix and two seasons with Milwaukee (2003-04 and 2006-07). He enjoyed his best statistical season in 2003-04 when he averaged 10.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 56 games with the Bucks.

Hobson, 23, was selected in the second round (37th overall) of the 2010 NBA Draft after being named Mountain West Conference Player of the Year as a junior at New Mexico.  He was unable to participate in the Bucks Summer League entry or training camp due to a hip injury, which led to season-ending surgery on October 12.

The Bucks roster now stands at 14 players.

Texas Legends (D-League) sign Joe Alexander

Texas Legends (D-League) sign Joe Alexander

The Texas Legends today announced that they have claimed former University of West Virginia sharp-shooting forward Joe Alexander off of waivers.

Alexander, 23, joins Antonio Daniels, Reece Gaines, Rashad McCants and Sean Williams as the fifth Texas Legend who was drafted in the first round of the NBA Draft.

The Milwaukee Bucks took Alexander eighth overall in the 2008 NBA Draft and that season he became the first ever Taiwanese-born NBA player.

Alexander also lived in China for six years where he became conversant in Mandarin, which is an interesting connection to part owner of the Legends, Sonny Xiao, who recently became the first Chinese-born owner of an NBA or NBA D-League team.

During his junior year at West Virginia, the 6’8”, 230 pound Alexander was named to the All-Big East First-Team as well as an All-American Honorable Mention in leading the Mountaineers to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.

In his rookie season with the Bucks, Alexander appeared in 59 games, averaging 4.7 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists in 12.1 minutes per game, while shooting 34.8% from beyond the arc.

Alexander is no stranger to the D-League. After missing the first 41 games of the 2009-10 season with a hamstring injury, he was assigned to the D-League’s Fort Wayne Mad Ants in January. In six games (three starts) with the Mad Ants, Alexander averaged 10.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 26.8 minutes per game.

In February, shortly after his stint in Fort Wayne, Alexander was traded to the Chicago Bulls along with Hakim Warrick in exchange for John Salmons. Alexander played in eight games for the Bulls, averaging 0.5 points and 0.6 rebounds per game in 3.6 minutes of play.

On September 20, Alexander was signed by the New Orleans Hornets, but was released on November 13 after spending the first few weeks of the NBA season on the Hornets inactive list.

Bucks exercise option on GM John Hammond, extend contract of coach Scott Skiles

The Milwaukee Bucks have exercised the option on the contract of General Manager John Hammond, and extended the contract of Head Coach Scott Skiles, the team announced today.  The agreements keep both Hammond and Skiles in their respective positions with the Bucks through the 2012-13 season.

“John and Scott do an outstanding job for our basketball team,” said Herb Kohl, team president.  “They work very well together and are each highly respected by the players and among their peers.  In a short time together, they have brought our team to a very high level of performance.”

The Bucks clinched a playoff berth last season by winning 46 games, the most by the franchise since the 2000-01 campaign, and took their first round playoff series with the Atlanta Hawks to seven games.

Hammond was hired by the Bucks on April 11, 2008, and has seen the team improve their win total by eight and 12 wins, over his first two seasons.  For his accomplishments, Hammond was awarded the 2009-10 NBA Executive of the Year Award, voted by his peers in the NBA.  He has more than 30-years of coaching and administrative experience, including seven seasons with the Detroit Pistons that included an NBA Championship (2004), another NBA Finals appearance and three other Eastern Conference Finals appearances.

Skiles became the 11th head coach in Bucks history on April 21, 2008, and led the team last season to a 46-36 record – a 12-game improvement that was the biggest in the Eastern Conference and third largest in the NBA.  The team qualified for the post season for the first time since 2005-06, and he made his sixth playoff appearance as a head coach.  Skiles has amassed an overall record of 361-335 (.519) as an NBA head coach, which includes previous stints with the Chicago Bulls (2003-2007) and Phoenix Suns (1999-2002).

Bucks waive Brian Skinner

The Milwaukee Bucks have requested waivers on forward/center Brian Skinner, General Manager John Hammond announced today.

Skinner (6-9, 255 – Baylor) signed as a free agent on September 29. He appeared in all eight of the team’s exhibition games and averaged 1.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in 11.6 minutes. A veteran of 12 NBA seasons (including 2003-04 and 2006-07 in Milwaukee), Skinner holds averages of 4.8 points and 4.7 rebounds in 605 career games.

The Bucks roster now stands at 15 players.

Bucks exercise third-year option on Brandon Jennings

Bucks exercise third-year option on Brandon Jennings

The Milwaukee Bucks have exercised their third-year option on guard Brandon Jennings, General Manager John Hammond announced today.

Jennings started all 82 games for the Bucks in 2009-10, helping them to a 46-36 record (their most wins since a 50-32 mark in 2000-01) and their first playoff appearance since 2006. The 10th overall selection in the 2009 NBA Draft finished third among rookies with 15.5 points, 5.7 assists and 1.3 steals to go with 3.4 rebounds. He hit 37.4 percent (145-388) of his three-pointers and sank 81.7 percent (223-273) of his free throws in a rookie season that saw him set franchise rookie records in assists (470) and three-pointers made (145).

In the thrilling seven game playoff series with Atlanta, Jennings averaged 18.7 points, 3.6 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals. In his playoff debut, Jennings tallied 34 points at Atlanta on April 17, two points shy of the rookie record for points in a playoff debut (36 – Derrick Rose in 2009; Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1970).

Last season, Jennings became the first Eastern Conference rookie to win the Rookie of the Month award four times in a season, earning the honor for the months of October/November, December, January and March. Jennings was also named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from November 9 through November 15, a week that included a Bucks rookie record 55 points by Jennings in a win over Golden State.

Jennings’ 55-point performance on November 14 was the highest point total of the 2009-10 season and the most scored by a rookie since Earl Monroe had 56 in 1968. Jennings became the youngest player in NBA history to score 50-plus points in a game and the fastest to do it, accomplishing the feat in his seventh game as a pro.

In his regular season debut on October 30, Jennings tallied 17 points, nine assists and nine rebounds, narrowly missing becoming the second player in NBA history to record a triple-double in his debut (Oscar Robertson, 1960). Though he missed out on the triple-double, he became the first rookie since 1974 (John Drew, Atlanta) to lead his club in points, rebounds and assists in his debut. Jennings also appeared in the NBA Rookie Challenge as well as the Skills Challenge at the 2010 All-Star Weekend.

Bucks waive Chris Kramer

The Milwaukee Bucks have requested waivers on guard Chris Kramer, General Manager John Hammond announced today.

Kramer (6-3, 214 – Purdue) signed as a free agent on September 27. He appeared in four of the team’s preseason games and averaged 5.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 assist. On Sunday at Minnesota he played a team-high 36 minutes and contributed 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

The Bucks Training Camp roster now stands at 16 players.

Darington Hobson out for season after hip surgery

Milwaukee Bucks General Manager John Hammond announced today that rookie guard Darington Hobson (6-7, 210) had successful left hip surgery this afternoon.  The surgery was performed by Dr. John Heinrich at Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI.  Hobson will undergo a similar procedure on his right hip later this year and is expected to miss the 2010-11 campaign.

Hobson, 24, was selected by the Bucks in the second round of the 2010 NBA Draft (37th overall). He was named Mountain West Conference Newcomer of the Year and Player of the Year in his only season at New Mexico, where he became the first player in program history to lead the team in points, rebounds and assists.  Hobson was named Third Team All-America by The Associated Press and joined Evan Turner (The Ohio State University, 2nd overall pick in 2010 NBA Draft) as the only players in NCAA Division I to average more than 15.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game last season.

Andrew Bogut may be limited all season

Tom Enlund of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports:

Andrew Bogut may be limited all season

After sitting out the Milwaukee Bucks’ first three exhibition games with soreness and swelling in his surgically repaired right hand, center Andrew Bogut is dealing with his physical situation.

“I might not be 100% the whole year,” said Bogut.

Bogut, a third-team all-NBA selection last season, suffered injuries to his right hand, wrist and elbow in a gruesome fall on April 3. He sat out the three exhibition contests after getting hit on the hand in practice on Oct. 1.

With the start of the regular season a little over two weeks away, a general sense of urgency is starting to build as far as getting the entire team healthy. But Bogut is the biggest concern, since so much revolves around him.
