Rookies of Month: Durant, Jianlian

The Milwaukee Bucks’ Yi Jianlian and the Seattle SuperSonics’ Kevin Durant today were named the Eastern and Western Conference T-Mobile Rookies of the Month, respectively, for games played for the month of December.

Yi averaged 12.1 points and 6.6 rebounds for the month and ranks second in scoring and rebounding among rookies. He also leads rookies in field goal percentage with .503 and is third in minutes per game with 30.6. In addition, he scored a career-high 29 points in a 103-99 win over Charlotte on Dec. 22.

Among rookie qualifiers for the second straight month Durant ranks first in the league in scoring with 19.7 points per game, seventh in rebounding with 4.2, and is tied for first in assists with 2.1. He is also ranked second in the league in field goal percentage with .407, first in free throw percentage and is averaging 1.3 blocks per game. In addition, Durant matched his career high in points with 35 and rebounds with eight and set a new career high in blocks with five on Dec. 7 vs. Milwaukee.

Bucks fan hits half-court shot to win car

We’re not sure if this one even hit the rim, but no matter how it went in, Michael Hall of East Troy, Wisconsin, will trade in his beat-up wheels for a hard earned 2008 Chevy Malibu for sinking a half court shot during halftime of the Bucks vs. Nets game Saturday night at the Bradley Center.

The half-time competition has become a staple at Bucks home games throughout the years.  At each Bradley Center-based contest, two random fans are selected to participate in the Chevy Super Shot 2007-2008 Midwest Airlines Skyshots Competition.  Both contestants are given 24 seconds to make as many free throws as possible.  The shooter with the most made free throws advances to half-court for one shot at the coveted grand prize –­ the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu.

Hall was attending his second Bucks game of the year when he was approached and asked to be a part of the contest. “I usually get to nine or ten games a year,” Hall said.  “The car I own right now is pretty old and beat-up, so this is perfect.”

The Chevy Super Shot 2007-2008 Midwest Airlines Competition is sponsored by Chevrolet, Midwest Airlines and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Hall’s car will be presented to him at a future Bucks home game this season.

David Noel out 4-6 weeks

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports: The Milwaukee Bucks announced before Friday’s game that forward David Noel would be out for from four to six weeks with a sprained right wrist. Noel underwent an examination under anesthesia by Dr. Donald Bynum at the  University of North Carolina Orthopedics in Chapel Hill, N.C. The diagnostic arthroscopy confirmed a right wrist sprain.

The Bucks are 7-6 and tonight in New York will start Mo Williams and Michael Redd at guard, Desmond Mason and Yi Jianlian at forward, and Andrew Bogut at center. The usual crew. Michael Ruffin remains out with a left wrist fracture.

Early in November the Bucks assigned Ramon Sessions to the team’s D-League affiliate, the Tulsa 66ers.

Mo Williams went a perfect 9-of-9 for 23 points in Atlanta on Wednesday. Over the last seven games he’s close to averaging a double-double with 16.4 points and 9.7 assists per game.

Andrew Bogut has six double-doubles, the most of any Bucks player. on Tuesday he stepped up with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks.

Tonight, in New York, the Bucks begin their fourth back-to-back set of games so far this season.

It’s a block party when the Bucks play. They’re 3rd in the league with 5.6 blocks per game. They’re led by Bogut’s 2.2 bpg, which is 7th in the league.

Bucks star shooting guard Michael Redd now has 9,274 career points. He’s only 16 points behind Terry Cummings for 9th all-time in Bucks history. Redd has led the team in scoring 11 of their 13 games so far in 2007-08.

Three games ago the Bucks beat Dallas by two points. But their last two games were losses to the 76ers and Hawks, two of the weakest teams in the league.

In 7 home games this season the Bucks have averaged 15,332 fans per game. They’ve had one home sellout. And home is where the Bucks have succeeded. They’re 6-1 in their own building and just 1-5 on the road.

Bucks send Ramon Sessions to D-League’s Tulsa 66ers

Milwaukee Bucks General Manager Larry Harris announced today that the team has assigned rookie guard Ramon Sessions (6-3, 190) to the Tulsa 66ers (Okla.) of the NBA Development League. Tulsa is led by Head Coach Joey Meyer and has served as the Bucks D-League affiliate since the 2005-06 season.

“This is an opportunity for Ramon to see regular minutes and further develop his skills,” said Harris. “Coach Meyer and the Tulsa organization are receiving a talented, young player, and we look forward to watching Ramon’s progress as a member of the 66ers.”

Sessions, 21, was selected by the Bucks with the 56th overall pick in the second round of the 2007 NBA Draft and averaged 5.8 points and 2.5 assists in four NBA Summer league contests. He played three seasons at the University of Nevada as a point guard and earned Second Team All-WAC honors during his junior season, in addition to being a finalist for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award. During the 2006-07 season, he was third on the team in scoring (12.3), second in rebounding (4.7) and first in assists (4.7, second in the WAC).
