Jrue Holiday feeling at home in New Orleans

Here’s the Philadelphia Inquirer on New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday:

Jrue Holiday feeling at home in New Orleans

Holiday hasn’t missed a game for the Pelicans, who improved to 14-15 with the win and remain on the fringe of playoff contention in the loaded Western Conference. During the first 29 games he averaged 15.3 points, 8.3 assists, and 4.7 rebounds in 34.3 minutes.

“He has the ability to be one of the very few two-way players who plays a lot of minutes,” Pelicans coach Monty Williams said of Holiday.

Williams added that it’s rare that a player who goes so hard at both ends of the court will play more than 25 minutes.

“Jrue does it 35-40 minutes a night and he is about as tough as they come,” Williams said.

Anthony Davis injury update: He will miss 4-6 weeks of time

The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that Anthony Davis has been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture of the fifth metacarpal of his left hand. The injury occurred during the first quarter of the December 1 game against the New York Knicks.

Davis underwent further evaluations by team doctors this morning in New Orleans and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

This is a big blow to the 9-8 Pelicans, who count on Davis for rebounding, shot-blocking and defense in a huge way, and scoring as well.

Anthony Davis injured, suffers fracture in hand

Here’s the New Orleans Times-Picayune on Hornets star Anthony Davis, who suffered an injury Sunday. Davis is second on the team in scoring, and first (in a really big way) in both rebounding and shot-blocking:

Anthony Davis injured, suffers fracture in left hand

New Orleans Pelicans second-year power forward Anthony Davis was having a splendid start to his 2013-2014 season. But the momentum he opened the season with was slowed during the first quarter of the Pelicans’ 103-99 victory against the New York Knicks on Sunday night.

Davis suffered a non-displaced fracture in his left, non-shooting, hand in the first quarter of the Pelicans game against the New York Knicks and wasn’t able to return. The team didn’t provide a timetable for his return.

Davis said he injured his hand when he slammed it on the rim during an alley-oop attempt.

“I am hoping it is a short-term thing, so I can get back on the floor,” Davis said. “I felt pain. I didn’t think it was going to keep me out. I am happy that my team battled for the whole 48 (minutes) and got that W.”

Pelicans center Greg Stiemsma out 6-8 weeks with knee injury

Stiemsma is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.

The Pelicans are off to a 3-6 start. From an efficiency standpoint, their offense is fairly average for the league, but their defense has been a disappointment. Their star so far has been Anthony Davis, who is playing like an all-star this season, averaging 21.8 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game.
