Mike Woodson moves Jason Kidd to bench

jason kidd

Jason Kidd’s days as a starter may be over.

Mike Woodson removed the struggling veteran from the starting lineup prior to last night’s 96-88 victory over the Washington Wizards and made Kidd the back-up point guard, the role Kidd expected to play when he signed a three year contract last July.

Woodson did not say the move is permanent but considering that Kidd had scored a total of 30 points in 11 games last month, the Knicks can’t survive without getting more production from the shooting guard position.

“I didn’t come in this league as a scorer,” Kidd joked, “and it doesn’t’ look like I’m going to leave as a scorer.”

Heat may bring back Juwan Howard

Heat may bring back Juwan Howard

The Miami Heat are strongly considering signing 40-year-old forward Juwan Howard, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

After playing the past two years with the Heat, Howard has remained unsigned this season. He has stayed in shape and has been working out throughout the season.

The Heat created a roster spot at the trade deadline, sending Dexter Pittman to the Memphis Grizzlies for a trade exception.

Howard had been a respected leader on the Heat and was popular with teammates, coaches and management.

Video: Incredible, amazing Kevin Durant layup

That’s right. I said “layup.” Not dunk. Not three-pointer. Not some other, more high-profile method of scoring.

But Kevin Durant’s layup was far from ordinary. It was the type of incredible shot you might pull off — on a less-awesome scale — in a park someday if you get really lucky. The game would stop. Your friends would shove you around in appreciation. The guys on the other team would shake their heads, knowing it was a fluke.

Only, when a player like Durant does stuff like this, it’s no fluke. No sir.

Here’s a video clip of Durant’s awesome layup, which took place in Friday’s Oklahoma City Thunder at Denver Nuggets game:

Hornets forward Jason Smith will miss rest of season due to shoulder injury

jason smith

New Orleans Hornets General Manager Dell Demps announced Friday that backup forward/center Jason Smith will miss the remainder of the season with a torn labrum in his right shoulder. He will have surgery to repair the injury early next week and details regarding a rehab schedule will be released then.

Smith has played through the injury since December after he blocked an attempted slam dunk by Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant. He was expected to undergo surgery after this season but re-injured his shoulder during Tuesday night’s game against the Brooklyn Nets. He did not play in Wednesday night’s 45-point loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Andrew Bynum concedes he might not play this season

andrew bynum

Out all season with bad knees, Andrew Bynum’s latest setback may be the one that finally ends his year.

Bynum admitted for the first time that he may not play for the Philadelphia 76ers because of swelling in his right knee. Bynum had been steadfast since training camp that he would eventually make his Sixers’ debut, even setting an All-Star break target date. Bynum backed off Friday because he still had swelling in his right knee from five-on-five drills last week. Bynum, an All-Star last season with the Lakers, refused to commit to a comeback.

“It’s getting really late,” he said. “I don’t know.”

Building around their 7-foot center, the Sixers (22-34) expected to contend for the Atlantic Division title and make a deep run in the playoffs. Without him, they have lost seven straight entering Saturday’s game against Golden State and are well behind the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.

Not even Bynum could help them salvage a playoff berth now.
