Pelicans sign center Cody Zeller

The New Orleans Pelicans have signed free agent center Cody Zeller.

Zeller, 6-11, 245, most recently played for the Miami HEAT, where he averaged 6.5 points and 4.3 rebounds in 14.5 minutes per game while shooting .627 from the floor and .686 from the free throw line. During the 2023 NBA Playoffs, Zeller appeared in 21 games for the HEAT, averaging 2.2 points and 2.3 rebounds while shooting .571 from the floor.

Over his 10-year NBA career, Zeller has appeared in 509 games (275 starts) for Charlotte, Portland and Miami, averaging 8.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 0.6 blocks in 22.0 minutes per contest. The former Indiana Hoosier holds career shooting averages of .522 from the field and .730 from the free throw stripe.

Miami Heat sign Cody Zeller

The Miami Heat have signed nine-year NBA veteran Cody Zeller.

Zeller last appeared in 27 games with the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2021-22 season and averaged 5.2 points and 4.6 rebounds in 13.1 minutes of action while shooting 56.7 percent from the field and 77.6 percent from the foul line. The former fourth overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and 2013-14 NBA All-Rookie Second Team selection scored in double figures twice last season while grabbing at least six rebounds 11 times and dishing out multiple assists on three occasions. Additionally, Zeller has appeared in 494 career NBA games (273 starts) averaging 8.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 22.2 minutes while shooting 52 percent from the field and 73.1 percent from the foul line.

Zeller will wear number 44.

Utah Jazz sign Cody Zeller

The Utah Jazz have signed center Cody Zeller.

The deal is reportedly a training camp contract.

Per the Salt Lake Tribune, “the 29-year-old Zeller signed a minimum deal with Portland last year but fell out of the NBA after suffering a knee injury that required surgery. The Trail Blazers waived him in early February.”

Zeller (6-11, 240, Indiana) is entering his 10th NBA season, owning career averages of 8.5 points on 52.0 percent from the field, along with 6.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 494 games (273 starts) with Charlotte (2013-21) and Portland (2021-22). He has additional postseason experience, competing with Charlotte during the 2014 and 2016 playoffs, appearing in 11 games (two starts), averaging 6.1 points and 4.2 boards in 17.3 minutes per game. He was taken with the fourth overall pick in the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft by Charlotte, and following his rookie season, he was named to the 2013-14 All-NBA Rookie Second Team.

The native of Washington, Ind., played two-collegiate seasons at Indiana, averaging 16.1 points, 7.3 boards, 1.3 assists, 1.2 blocks, and 1.2 steals in 72 games (all starts), earning 2012-13 Consensus All-American Second Team and All-Big Ten First Team honors. During his freshman season at Indiana, he was named the 2011-12 Big Ten Freshman Team and garnered 2011-12 All Big-Ten Second Team and All-Big Ten Freshman Team accolades.

Trail Blazers sign center Cody Zeller

The Portland Trail Blazers have signed free agent center Cody Zeller.

Zeller, 28, arrives in Portland after spending the first eight seasons of his career in Charlotte. He appeared in 48 games (21 starts) for the Hornets during the 2020-21 campaign, posting averages of 9.4 points (55.9% FG, 71.4% FT), 6.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 20.9 minutes.

Selected by Charlotte with the fourth overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft after two years at Indiana, Zeller (6-11, 240) holds career averages of 8.7 points (51.8% FG, 22.7% 3-PT, 72.9% FT), 6.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.67 blocks and 22.7 minutes.

Hornets center Cody Zeller out after hand surgery

Charlotte Hornets center Cody Zeller has undergone surgery on the fourth metacarpal of his left hand.

The 7-footer suffered the fractured left hand in the fourth quarter of yesterday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He will be listed as out and will be reevaluated in four weeks.

Last season, Zeller averaged career-highs in points (11.1) and rebounds (7.1) per game over the course of 58 games played.

Now in his eighth year out of Indiana, Zeller holds career averages with the Hornets of 8.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 22.9 minutes per game over the course of 420 career appearances (253 starts).

Hornets center Cody Zeller had arthroscopic surgery in his left knee today. The team didn’t estimate a return date for him, so for now he’ll be listed as Out Indefinitely.

The injury occurred in the third quarter in the team’s December 6 game against the Warriors.

Zeller this season is averaging 7.2 points and 5.5 rebounds in 19.9 minutes per game.

Overall during his 298 games with Charlotte, Zeller has averaged 8.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per outing.

The Hornets are just 10-16 this season, which is the 13th best record in the Eastern conference. They were expected to be better than this.

The team is led in scoring by Kemba Walker (22.5 ppg), Dwight Howard (16.0 ppg), Jeremy Lamb (14.8), Frank Kaminsky (10.5 ppg) and Nicolas Batum (10.1 ppg).

The Hornets play the Rockets in Houston Wednesday night.
