Houston Rockets re-sign David Nwaba

The Houston Rockets have re-signed forward David Nwaba.

Nwaba (6-5, 219) originally signed as a free agent with Houston on June 23, 2020. He appeared in 30 games with nine starts last season, averaging 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.00 steals in 22.6 minutes per game. Nwaba was one of three players in 2020-21 to have averaged at least 9.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.0 apg, and 1.00 spg in fewer than 23.0 mpg.

Over his final 20 games played, Nwaba shot 51.7% from the floor and grabbed at least two offensive rebounds 12 times. Since entering the league in 2016-17, he is one of four players listed 6’5” or shorter with at least 100 games played to have shot 49.0% or better.

Nwaba was eligible for the 2016 NBA Draft following his senior year at Cal Poly. The Los Angeles native began his career with the Lakers and has also played for Chicago, Cleveland, and Brooklyn.

Rockets sign David Nwaba, waive Isaiah Hartenstein

Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey today announced that the team has signed free agent guard/forward David Nwaba.

And in a related move, the Rockets have waived center Isaiah Hartenstein.

Nwaba (6-5, 219) was eligible for the 2016 NBA Draft following his senior season at Cal Poly. In four NBA seasons, he has appeared in 161 games with 37 starts while averaging 6.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists.

In 20 games for Brooklyn this season, Nwaba shot 42.9% from 3-point range. He is shooting 49.2% from the floor for his career and was named All-NBA Development League All-Defensive Team in 2016-17.

Hartenstein was the 43rd pick by Houston in the 2017 NBA Draft and appeared in a total of 51 games as a Rocket.

Nets waive David Nwaba, who was out with a season-ending injury

The Brooklyn Nets have waived guard/forward David Nwaba, who recently suffered a season-ending injury.

According to the New York Daily News, “Nwaba was ruled out for the season after tearing his Achilles in a Dec. 19 matchup against the San Antonio Spurs.”

Nwaba appeared in 20 games for Brooklyn this season, recording averages of 5.2 points and 2.3 rebounds in 13.4 minutes per contest. He signed with the Nets on July 17, 2019.

More from the Daily News: “The Nets had a full roster and could only add a full-time replacement by waiving the injured Nwaba.”

The Nets’ roster now stands at 16 players.

Nets guard/forward David Nwaba undergoes season-ending surgery

Brooklyn Nets guard/forward David Nwaba underwent surgery today to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon.

The injury, which occurred during last night’s game at San Antonio, will result in Nwaba missing the remainder of the season.

In 20 games played this season, Nwaba recorded averages of 5.2 points and 2.3 rebounds in 13.4 minutes per game, shooting 52.1 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from 3-point range.
