Timberwolves re-sign Julius Randle

The Minnesota Timberwolves have re-signed forward Julius Randle.

In his first season with the Timberwolves, Randle saw action in 69 games (all starts), averaging 18.7 points on 48.5% shooting, including 34.4% from three, 7.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 32.3 minutes per game. Randle finished the 2024-25 campaign with totals of 1,288 points, 487 rebounds and 323 assists, becoming the first player in franchise history to record 1,200+ points, 400+ rebounds and 300+ assists in his first 69 games with the team. He ended the season with three 30+ point games, 36 20+ point performances, 14 10+ rebound games and 14 double-doubles. Randle finished the final 21 games of the regular season averaging 18.2 points on 52.3% shooting, 6.8 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 31.7 minutes per game with the Wolves going 17-4 in that span.

Randle led the way for the Timberwolves against the Phoenix Suns on Nov. 17, finishing with a team-high and season-high 35 points on 11-of-20 shooting, including a season-high-tying 5-of-11 from deep and seven assists. In the Nov. 17 game against the Suns, Randle connected on a 25-foot three-pointer as time expired to give the Wolves the victory, marking his first game-winning field goal at the buzzer of his career.

Injury updates on Timberwolves players Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo

The Minnesota Timberwolves yesterday (Thursday) announced the following injury updates on guard Donte DiVincenzo and forward Julius Randle:

DiVincenzo, who suffered a left great toe injury on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the end of the Timberwolves vs. Golden State Warriors game, has been cleared for non-contact basketball activities.

Randle, who suffered a right groin strain on Thursday, Jan. 30 at the 10:12 minute mark of the second quarter during the Timberwolves at Utah Jazz game, has been cleared for full-contact, 5-on-5 basketball practice activities.

Both DiVincenzo and Randle’s game availability will remain as out as they continue to progress through their return-to-play rehabilitation programs.

Injury update on Timberwolves forward Julius Randle

The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the following injury update on forward Julius Randle, who suffered a right groin strain on Thursday, Jan. 30 at the 10:12 minute mark of the second quarter during the Timberwolves at Utah Jazz game:

An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) taken at Mayo Clinic by Dr. Kelechi Okoroha on Randle revealed a right adductor strain and was confirmed via second opinion by Dr. Benjamin Domb of American Hip Institute. Randle will be re-evaluated in two weeks, and further updates of his progress will be provided when available.

Per the NY Post:

As he struggled through the opening week-plus of the season, Julius Randle had been battling through ankle pain and, as a player committed to availability, resisted attempts from the Knicks to get him to rest, multiple sources told The Post.

Randle, who underwent arthroscopic ankle surgery in the offseason, was operating at about “70 percent,” a source said.

And through the opening six games — while limited by that pain — Randle was among the league’s least efficient players with a notable drop-off in his explosiveness.

Julius Randle misses Game 1 of Knicks vs. Heat playoff series

The New York Knicks versus Miami Heat second round playoff series began today in NYC, with the home squad starting the series short-handed. Via ESPN.com:

Knicks forward Julius Randle will not play Sunday in Game 1 of New York’s Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Heat because of a sprained left ankle, the team announced.

The Knicks also said swingman Quentin Grimes will play in Game 1 but will not start. Grimes missed the final two games of the first round after suffering a shoulder contusion in Game 3 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Knicks forward Julius Randle injured, out with ankle sprain

Via the NY Post:

All-Star forward Julius Randle will have his sprained left ankle reevaluated in two weeks, the team announced Thursday, meaning he will miss at least the final five games of the regular season — beginning Friday night against the Cavaliers — and possibly the start of the playoffs.

As long as the Knicks are not in the play-in round, the playoffs for them would start no earlier than April 15.

Historically, the league has played the eight Game 1’s on the first two playoff days (this year that would be April 15-16).

Randle, the team’s leading scorer at 25.1 points per game, has started all 77 games this season before departing late in the second quarter of Wednesday’s win over the Heat after landing on the foot of Miami forward Bam Adebayo.

Tons of traveling and carrying calls made in Cavs at Knicks game

Julius Randle was still stunned 30 minutes after the game had finished.

Fourteen traveling and carrying calls were made in the Knicks’ 92-81 win over the Cavaliers on Sunday night, the most in an NBA game this season.

“I’ve never seen that in my life,” the Knicks forward said…

The 14 travels and carries were the most in a game in the last 25 years, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Since it is a play-by-play stat, that type of information is not readily available for all of NBA history, and Elias couldn’t go back any further.

Knicks forward Julius Randle scores career-high 46 points

Knicks forward Julius Randle scores career-high 46 points in a big win over the Kings Monday that featured 83 NY points in the second half. Via the New York Post:

Julius Randle got fined by the NBA Sunday and then got even.

This time it was the Knicks’ turn to rally from a big deficit and capture a desperately needed victory.

Randle exploded for a career-high 46 points to lead a 44-point third-quarter barrage as the Knicks rallied from 19 points down in the first half to knock out the Kings, 131-115, in a Wild West shootout at Golden1 Center.

“When he plays with that type of intensity, it lifts everyone,’’ Tom Thibodeau said. “He was attacking the basket, shooting the 3, making hustle plays. It was a great all-around game from him.’’ …

The Knicks exploded for a 35-17 start to the second half to erase their 15-point halftime hole. They finished the half with 83 points, the most by a Knicks team after intermission since 1969.

Knicks forward Julius Randle fined by NBA

New York Knicks forward Julius Randle has been fined $50,000 for initiating an on-court altercation by forcefully shoving Phoenix Suns forward Cam Johnson, making contact with a game official in his attempt to get at Johnson, and for his noncompliance with an NBA investigation, it was announced today by Byron Spruell, President, League Operations.

The incident, for which Johnson was assessed a technical foul and Randle was assessed two technical fouls and ejected, occurred with 2:40 remaining in the third quarter of the Suns’ 115-114 victory over the Knicks on Mar. 4 at Footprint Center in Phoenix.
