Lonzo Ball not returning from injury just yet

The Lakers (19-30) have been without point guard Lonzo Ball (10.2 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 7.1 apg) recently, and that’ll continue for a bit longer as the talented rookie isn’t ready to return from injury just yet. Here’s the OC Register reporting:

Lonzo Ball will miss his eighth consecutive game Wednesday after doing little during the team’s practice on Tuesday.

“Basketball-wise, you are looking at it,” Walton said, while Ball shot on a hoop at the far end of the court. “He started shooting toward the end of practice. He was in the weight room doing some rehab stuff.

Walton said Ball has started to work on lateral movement with the team’s trainers, but that he is early in that process.

“He’s got to start with them (the trainers),” Walton said, “but nothing to the extent of what it would take to be able to play basketball, move laterally and change direction, full speed, hit somebody, those type of drills. He has not done that. He is slowly doing that in a controlled setting.”

Lonzo Ball still deciding which shoe brands he will wear this season

Look. This whole Big Baller Brand thing is just fun. It’s blown up. It’s famous. Everybody knows about it. Talking about it doesn’t hurt. It’s out there, and we’le keep watching. We still haven’t worn the shoes, though, so we can’t confirm they’re any good just yet. Anyway, here’s ESPN.com reporting the latest on which shoes Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball may be wearing in the season opener and beyond:

Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball said he is still deliberating on whether he will wear other shoe brands in addition to his Big Baller Brand this season like he did when he created a stir at the Las Vegas Summer League.

“Who knows,” Ball said when asked if he will wear other brands such as Nike and Adidas during his rookie season. “Probably my shoes, though, thinking about it right now.

“I’ll definitely be in my shoes the first game and then just go from there.”

Lonzo Ball struggles in NBA Summer League debut

No need to panic. No need for alarm. There is no reason to go too wild in reaction to a rookie’s first game in Las Vegas at Summer League. Anyway, here’s ESPN.com reporting on the No. 2 pick in the 2017 Draft, Lakers rookie guard Lonzo Ball:

Lonzo Ball struggles in NBA Summer League debut

The Clippers defeated the Lakers 96-93. Ball scored five points on 2-for-15 shooting, dished out five assists and grabbed four rebounds…

The Lonzo Ball era began with a bang as it took less than 30 seconds for the second overall pick to deliver a highlight play with his first assist coming on an alley-oop pass to Brandon Ingram.

Despite the fact that Lonzo struggled with his shot — going just 1-for-11 from 3-point range — LaVar said the Rookie of the Year contest won’t be much of a contest.

“Rookie of the Year man, sewn up,” LaVar said.

Yes, Lonzo Ball still hopes to play for Lakers

Many NBA Draft prospects intentionally avoid mentioning a favorite team, or who they hope to play for. Not Lonzo Ball. He hopes to be a Laker, and has no problem stating that to the world. Here’s ESPN.com with more:

After an individual workout in front of Lakers brass — which included Magic Johnson, the player he patterned his game after — point guard Lonzo Ball reiterated his desire on Wednesday to play for his hometown team.

“Of course,” Ball answered during an eight-minute media session that followed the workout. “It’s home.”

Ball also said that if the Lakers pass on him, he would play for any team.

“I’ll go to any team and just do what I do,” Ball said. “Play basketball.”
