Thunder bring back Mike Muscala

The Oklahoma City Thunder this past Saturday signed forward/center Mike Muscala.

Muscala returns to Oklahoma City after spending four seasons with the Thunder (2019-2023) where he appeared in 168 games (seven starts) and averaged 7.0 points on 39.2% 3-point shooting (248-632 3FGs) and 3.0 rebounds in 14.5 minutes per game.

Currently in his 11th NBA season, the Bucknell product was originally drafted 44th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft and in 532 career games (45 starts), Muscala has averaged 6.0 points and 3.2 rebounds in 15.3 minutes per game.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have re-signed forward/center Mike Muscala.

Last season with the Thunder, Muscala played in 43 games, averaging 8.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 13.8 minutes per game, while shooting a career-high 42.9 percent from three-point range.

In nine NBA seasons with Oklahoma City, Atlanta, Philadelphia and the Los Angeles Lakers, the Bucknell product has appeared in 432 career games (30 starts) and posted averages of 6.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 15.5 minutes per game.

Thunder announce season-ending surgeries for Lu Dort, Mike Muscala and Ty Jerome

The Oklahoma City Thunder announced the following injury updates today:

Lu Dort underwent a successful procedure today to address a labrum tear in his left shoulder. The procedure was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache at the Kerlan Jobe Institute in Los Angeles, with Thunder medical personnel present. Dort is expected to return to full basketball activities prior to the start of the 2022-23 season.

Mike Muscala underwent a successful arthroscopic procedure and additional lateral ligament repair on his right ankle today. The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Anderson at the Bellin Health Titletown Sports Medicine and Orthopedics in Green Bay, Wis., with Thunder medical personnel present. Muscala is expected to return to full basketball activities prior to the start of the 2022-23 season.

Ty Jerome underwent a successful procedure today to address a sports hernia. The procedure was performed by Dr. William Meyers at the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia, with Thunder medical personnel present. Jerome is expected to return to full basketball activities in approximately eight weeks.

OKC Thunder re-sign Mike Muscala

The Oklahoma City Thunder have re-signed forward/center Mike Muscala to a multi-year contract.

Muscala’s new contract with the Thunder is reportedly a two-year, $7 million deal.

Muscala has appeared in 389 career games (30 starts) and posted averages of 6.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 15.7 minutes per game. Last season, Muscala averaged a career-high 9.7 points per game to go along with 3.8 rebounds in 18.4 minutes. During the past two seasons with the Thunder, Muscala shot 37.3 percent from behind the 3-point line (122-327 3FGs).

Oklahoma City originally signed Muscala on July 10, 2019.

Thunder forward-center Mike Muscala sustains concussion

Oklahoma City Thunder forward/center Mike Muscala sustained a concussion during last night’s 120-118 victory vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves and he has been placed in the NBA’s concussion protocol.

Per the NBA’s Concussion Policy, Muscala will now begin the NBA-mandated Return-to-Participation Protocol. This process includes a series of steps designed to ensure an athlete exhibits symptom-free behavior before resuming basketball activities.

There is no predetermined timetable to complete the protocol, as each injury and player is different and recovery time can vary in each case.

In 21 games this season, Muscala is averaging 9.7 points and 3.5 rebounds in 18.2 minutes per contest.

Hawks re-sign Mike Muscala

The Hawks have re-signed forward Mike Muscala.

Last season in 70 games (three starts) with the Hawks, Muscala averaged career-highs of 6.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 17.7 minutes (.504 FG%, .418 3FG%, .766 FT%). He scored in double figures 20 times, ranking second on the club in FG% and fifth in rpg.

“Mike is a valuable player for us and a great fit both on and off the floor,” Schlenk said. “He’s worked hard and improved each year, and we’re very happy he’ll continue his career with the Hawks.”

In 190 career contests (11 starting assignments) in four years with Atlanta, the 6’11 forward/center is averaging 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in 13.3 minutes (.505 FG%, .385 3FG%, .817 FT%), also appearing in 27 postseason games.

Muscala was the recipient of the 2016 Jason Collier Memorial Trophy, presented to the player who best exemplifies the characteristics that Collier displayed off the court as a community ambassador.

Originally acquired by the Hawks on June 28, 2013, along with the draft rights to Lucas Nogueira and Jared Cunningham from Dallas, in exchange for the draft rights to Shane Larkin, Muscala was the 44th overall pick by the Mavericks in the 2013 NBA Draft. After playing in 20 games with Blusens Monbus Obradoiro of the Spanish ACB League in 2013-14, he signed with Atlanta on February 27, 2014. The Hawks exercised his 2016-17 contract option on June 29, 2016.
