The Golden State Warriors want a new arena, located in San Francisco. Here’s CSN Bay Area with the latest news on that front, which bodes well for the team:

Latest on Warriors quest for new arena in San Francisco

Not long after the Warriors were honored Monday at a Chamber of Commerce luncheon in San Francisco, the office of Mayor Ed Lee announced a partnership that it believes will clear a major hurdle to the team building a new arena in the city.

The mayor, the Warriors and the University of California, San Francisco, have reached agreement on several issues related to the billion-dollar sports and entertainment complex arena the Warriors propose in the Mission Bay district.

Insofar as Mayor Lee and the Warriors have been driving the deal from the start, the most notable aspect of this accord is an official endorsement from UCSF.

Trevor Booker ejected from preseason game after smacking Roy Hibbert

Here’s the Deseret News reporting on Utah Jazz forward Trevor Booker, who was ejected after smacking Los Angeles Lakers center Roy Hibbert in the face. The Jazz won the game 117-114 in overtime.

Trevor Booker ejected

Booker, who started for [Derrick] Favors, was ejected early in the third quarter after picking up two technical fouls.

The first technical came after Booker bumped Lakers forward Julius Randle after a hard foul.

The second technical happened after Roy Hibbert approached Booker following that previous incident. Hibbert, who got under the Jazz forward’s skin in Sunday’s game, bumped into Booker’s chest and Utah’s feisty big man smacked the Laker center in the head with an open left hand.

Booker was then tossed and Hibbert was assessed a technical foul.

In preseason win, Jimmy Butler scores 23 points in 25 minutes

Here’s the Bulls.com blog reporting on the squad as they learn to play under new head coach Fred Hoiberg:

In preseason win, Jimmy Butler scores 23 points in 25 minutes

No one called it Freddie-ball yet. But the Bulls Tuesday seemed to be having a ball in a 105-95 preseason opening win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

“You’ve got the freedom to shoot it when you are open,” said Jimmy Butler, who had 23 points in 25 minutes and was matched by Doug McDermott with 23 points, McDermott’s all after halftime. Nikola Mirotic added 18 points as the Bulls were 13 for 39 on threes, more threes attempted than in any game last season. The Bulls also attempted 99 shots, just short of last season’s most, which Tuesday was 22 more than Milwaukee’s as the Bulls dominated the backboards even with their perimeter emphasis and had 24 offensive rebounds.

The shots were quick and frequent as the Bulls scored 68 second half points to pull away even with Derrick Rose, Mike Dunleavy, Pau Gasol, Taj Gibson and Kirk Hinrich all out with injuries or rest.

“The second half I thought we got out and moved it,” said coach Fred Hoiberg. “I thought we rebounded the ball extremely well. Anytime we can get it off the glass and push it down the floor generally good things happen. We gave up too many transition points (22-14 Bucks fast break edge). Overall, first game especially, that second half I liked what I saw.”

Nerlens Noel interview quotes after Sixers loss to Wizards

Tuesday in NBA preseason the Wizards beat the Sixers 129-95. Sixers forward Nerlens Noel shot 4-of-8 for 13 points, five rebounds and three assists in the loss. Here’s what he said after the game:

nerlens noel

On the game:

Nerlens Noel: “This game, I thought some of the guys still have to get more experience. [We have gone through practices] but games are a whole different thing. You got nerves, and some of these young guys just need to stay awake. I think we’ll be alright next game.”

On playing with Jahlil Okafor:

Noel: “It was so different in a great way. Jahlil brings such a presence. Last year, I was always going up against the five and having to do a lot. I think Jahlil brings a presence that is more at ease and the offense flows. It was really good.”

On his defense:

Noel: “I think I was a little timid to start out but I think I stayed with it. You know, it’s the NBA. Eighty two games, you stick with it, and you start getting back into your groove.”

On how it feels playing a little farther away from the basket:

Noel: “It felt fine. It felt good. I was getting the hang of it. I missed out on [Kris] Humphries and [Drew] Gooden a couple of times but you know I’ll make those adjustments in film tomorrow. I made sure I could come back and block shots like that a couple of times tonight and made sure I closed out on that three.”

On his position:

Noel: “I like where I’m at now, being a four-man and being able to guard guys that aren’t able to shoot the ball and still being able to freelance a little bit and help guys out on blocks.”

Emmanuel Mudiay interview quotes after NBA preseason win vs Mavs

Nuggets rookie guard Emmanuel Mudiay inteview quotes after Tuesday’s 96-86 preseason win over the Dallas Mavericks. Mudiay shot 7-of-14 for 17 points and five assists, though he did commit seven turnovers.

Emmanuel Mudiay interview quotes

On his preseason play through two games:

Emmanuel Mudiay: “It’s cool. The more I am out there, the more comfortable I get. I’m just learning from these guys. (Nuggets guard) Jameer (Nelson), (Nuggets head coach Michael) Malone, and all the veterans are helpful.”

On his feel for the game and tonight’s fourth quarter:

Mudiay: “You just have to be aggressive. I was just trying to make plays to win. We didn’t have a lot of veterans out there with me, so we just had to find a way to go out there and win.”

On having the keys to the Nuggets’ offense:

Mudiay: “It’s a team sport. I still have a lot to learn. I’m going to learn from lots of these veterans and lots of these coaches. But at the same time, it’s a blessing. I have to thank God for it.”

On what he needs to work on:

Mudiay: “Just keep working. Like I said, the more I am out there, the more comfortable I get. It’s a learning process. I just learn from the coaches as much as I can and try to be a basketball junkie off the court. Keep working hard do what got me here.”

Many Lakers banged up in training camp

Here’s the Los Angeles Daily News reporting from the virtual hospital waiting room that is Lakers training camp:

The ice bag stayed firmly wrapped on Anthony Brown’s right shoulder. Lakers trainer Gary Vitti stood nearby finalizing plans for Brown to receive an MRI at a nearby hospital after the Lakers’ rookie small forward bumped his shoulder through a hard screen.

“It’s not horrible,” Anthony said in an interview with Los Angeles News Group. “I want to take precaution. So I sat out. But it’s not horrible.” …

Lakers guard Jabari Brown will receive x-rays on Monday after feeling pain in his right hand. Lakers guard Marcelo Huertas missed the team’s preseason loss to Utah on Sunday because of a strained right hamstring, as did Lakers forward Larry Nance Jr. with back spasms. The Lakers also nursed ailments considered to be minor, including point guard D’Angelo Russell (bone bruise in right foot), forward Metta World Peace (strained left calf) and forward Nick Young (back spasms).

Anderson Varejao happy to be playing again

Here’s the News Herald reporting on a key member of the Cleveland Cavaliers frontcourt that you probably forgot about aside from his slick mustache and funky outfits he wore on the sideline during the 2015 NBA playoffs:

Anderson Varejao happy to be playing again

Anderson Varejao played more than 16 minutes in the Wine and Gold scrimmage on Oct. 6 and was relaxed and content when he stood in front of microphones and cameras to talk about it.

It was Varejao’s first game-action since suffering a torn left Achilles last December. The only time Varejao in the last five years Varejao played more than half a season was in 2013-14, when he appeared in 65 games. Injuries cut short his time in uniform the other five years.

“It felt great to be out there,” Varejao said. “I know I need to take baby steps.

“The fans came out to support us. They are looking forward to a good season. We’re going to work hard every day and try to do our best to get a championship.”
