Not likely that Atlanta will get 2017 NBA All-Star game

Here’s the Atlanta Journal Constitution reporting on possible new locations for 2017 All-Star weekend now that it will no longer be held in Charlotte:

Atlanta is an unlikely destination for the 2017 NBA All-Star game after the league announced that the event would be relocated from Charlotte, according to a person familiar with the situation.

The Hawks and Atlanta are planning major renovations to Philips Arena, which is the major issue facing a move of the game to the city, according to the person familiar with the situation. Securing the necessary hotel rooms may also be an issue.

The NBA made the announcement Thursday, citing the North Carolina’s controversial transgender bathroom law HB2.

Wizards sign Tomas Satoransky

The Wizards have signed guard Tomas Satoransky.

“We are very pleased to be able to bring Tomas to the organization after monitoring his development overseas for the last several years,” said Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld. “He will provide energy and athleticism at both guard positions, giving us more depth and versatility in the backcourt.”

Satoransky (6-7, 210) was originally selected by the Wizards with the 32nd overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft as an international prospect. Washington has held his rights over the last four seasons.

Last season, he averaged 10.7 points and 4.3 assists while shooting .439 from three-point range in 43 games for Barcelona in the ACB League (Spain) and tallied 9.0 points and 4.2 assists in 29 games of Euroleague action. In 2014-15, he averaged 8.1 points and 3.3 assists while shooting .432 from three-point range in 68 combined games between ACB and Euroleague play for Barcelona.

After being drafted by the Wizards, the Prague native played two seasons for Sevilla in Spain (2012-14). Prior to being drafted by Washington, he played three pro seasons (2009-10 through 2011-12) in Spain (for Qalat Caja Sol Sevilla and Cajasol Sevilla) and two pro seasons (2007-08 & 2008-09) in his native Czech Republic (for USK Prague). Satoransky is a member of the Czech Republic National Team.

Pelicans sign Langston Galloway, Solomon Hill, E`Twaun Moore

The Pelicans have signed unrestricted free agents Langston Galloway, Solomon Hill and E’Twaun Moore.

“Today is an exciting day for the Pelicans,” said Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Dell Demps. “We entered the free agency period determined to add high character, talented, defensive-minded, gritty yet smart players that compete and play hard. We are headed in the right direction with the signings of Langston Galloway, Solomon Hill and E’Twaun Moore.”

Demps added, “These guys are two-way players that have been on our radar for quite some time. We wanted to stick with the theme of adding young veterans that can enhance our program while growing with our team. We are thrilled to welcome Langston, Solomon, E’Twaun and their families to the Pelicans’ family.”

Galloway, 6-2, 200, most recently played for the New York Knicks, appearing in all 82 games during the 2015-16 season, averaging 7.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists. Undrafted out of Saint Joseph’s, Galloway began his professional career with the Westchester Knicks of the NBA Development League, before signing with New York on January 5, 2015. The Baton Rouge native appeared in 45 games for the Knicks during his rookie campaign, averaging 11.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.2 steals on his way to being named to the 2015 NBA All-Rookie Second Team. In 127 career regular season games, Galloway holds averages of 9.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.0 steals in 27.5 minutes per game.

Hill, 6-7, 225, has spent his entire professional career with the Indiana Pacers after being selected 23rd overall in the 2013 NBA Draft out of the University of Arizona. In 169 career regular season games with the Pacers, Hill has averaged 6.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 20.6 minutes per contest. His best statistical season came in 2014-15, when Hill appeared in all 82 games (78 starts), averaging 8.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.

Moore, 6-4, 191, most recently played for the Chicago Bulls, averaging 7.5 points on .481 shooting from the field, including .452 from three-point range, 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 59 games during the 2015-16 season. Selected by the Boston Celtics with the 55th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft following a four-year collegiate career at Purdue University, Moore has appeared in 307 career regular season games with Boston, Orlando and Chicago, while averaging 5.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 17.2 minutes per game.

Nuggets re-sign Mike Miller

The Nuggets have re-signed forward Mike Miller to a multi-year contract,

Miller, a 16-year NBA veteran, appeared in 47 games (two starts) for Denver during the 2015-16 season and averaged 1.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in 7.9 minutes per game. Overall he has played in 1,012 career games (570 starts) and posted averages of 10.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 27.3 minutes per game for Orlando, Memphis, Minnesota, Washington, Miami, Cleveland and Denver.

“We’re thrilled that Mike will be back with us going forward. He exemplifies what it means to be an ultimate teammate and professional, and his resume certainly speaks for itself,” said General Manager and Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly. “Last season Mike made a major impact on our young core and we look forward to continuing to have his veteran leadership both on the court and in our locker room.”

Miller won two NBA championships with Miami in 2012 and 2013 and has appeared in four NBA Finals, three with Miami (2011-2013) and one with Cleveland (2015). The 6-8 forward was named the 2005-06 Sixth Man of the Year and also earned the 2000-01 Rookie of the Year Award for Orlando after being drafted fifth overall out of the University of Florida in the 2000 NBA Draft.

The South Dakota native is one of the most prolific three-point shooters in NBA history, ranking 20th all-time in made three-pointers (1,582) and 21st all-time in career three-point percentage (.407). He has made at least 70 three-pointers in 12 seasons, has made 100-or-more in eight of those seasons and connected on a career-high 202 threes during the 2006-07 campaign. He has shot at least .400 from beyond the arc in nine separate seasons.

Pacers sign Aaron Brooks

The Pacers have signed veteran free agent point guard Aaron Brooks to a contract.

With Jeff Teague and Monta Ellis as the likely starters in the Pacers’ backcourt, and Rodney Stuckey usually getting big minutes off the bench, Brooks’ role will likely be minimal.

The 6-foot, 161-pound Brooks is an eight-year NBA veteran who has played with Houston, Phoenix, Sacramento, Denver and Chicago. He was a first-round pick (26th overall) of the Rockets in 2007 after playing collegiately at Oregon. Over his NBA career, he has averaged 10.7 points and 3.2 assists with his best season in 2009-10 when he averaged 19.6 points and 5.3 assists with Houston. In 2010, he was the NBA’s Most Improved Player.

“Aaron is a proven point guard in the NBA,” said Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird. “He can create and shoot the three. He’s another scorer for our second unit who plays at a high level at both ends of the court.”

Mavericks sign Kyle Collinsworth

The Mavericks have signed free agent guard Kyle Collinsworth.

According to the Deseret News, it is a two-year, partially guaranteed contract.

Collinsworth (6-6, 210) recently competed for the Mavericks at Samsung NBA Summer League 2016 in Las Vegas. In six summer league games, he averaged 4.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steal in 15.3 minutes per contest.

A native of Provo, Utah, Collinsworth played four years at BYU and averaged 12.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.6 steals and 30.9 minutes per game in 140 games. He was a three-time First Team All-WCC selection (2014-16) and set the NCAA career triple-double record with 12.

As a senior for the Cougars (2015-16), Collinsworth averaged 15.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 2.0 steals and 33.8 minutes per game en route to being named the WCC Player of the Year. The 6-6 guard also tied the NCAA single-season triple-double record (set by himself in 2014-15) with six. He went undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft.

Rockets sign Chinanu Onuaku

The Rockets signed rookie forward/center Chinanu Onuaku (Chih-NAH-noo On-ooh-AH-koo) today.

According to the Houston Chronicle, it is a three-year, fully guaranteed deal.

Onuaku was selected by Houston with the 37th overall pick in the 2016 Draft.

Onuaku (6-10, 245) was an early entry candidate for the draft following his sophomore season at Louisville. He averaged 9.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks as a sophomore and shot 61.9% from the floor for his career. Onuaku was selected to the ACC All-Defensive team by both media and conference coaches in 2015-16 as well as earning Honorable Mention All-ACC honors.

This past season, the 19-year-old ranked third in the ACC in blocks and had the second-most double-doubles (10) during conference play. Onuaku also helped the U.S. earn a gold medal at the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship.

He will wear #21 for the Rockets.

Rockets sign Nene

The Rockets, who have a weak frontcourt and need any help they can get, have signed free agent center Nene (ne-Nay).

If the season began today, the team’s starting power forward may be Ryan Anderson. At center, it could be Nene, or young power forward Clint Capela.

Nene (6-11, 250) was originally the seventh overall pick by New York in the 2002 NBA Draft. In 14 NBA seasons with Denver and Washington, he has appeared in 804 games with 612 starts, while averaging 12.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.17 steals.

A member of the Brazilian national team set to compete in the Summer Olympics, Nene has the sixth-highest field goal percentage (.544) among active players and led the NBA in that category in 2010-11, shooting a career-high 61.5%. Over the past 10 seasons, Nene is the only player in the league to average at least 13.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 55.0% or better.

He will wear #42 for the Rockets.

Bulls sign Isaiah Canaan

The Bulls have signed guard Isaiah Canaan (CAN-none).

“We are excited to add Isaiah to our group,” said Chicago Bulls General Manager Gar Forman. “We feel his ability to knock down perimeter shots will be an asset to our team.”

A three-year veteran of the NBA, Canaan (6-0, 201) comes to the Bulls after spending the bulk of the last two seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers. He has also played for the Houston Rockets (2013-15). Last season with the Sixers, he appeared in 77 games (39 starts) and averaged a career-high 11.0 points, 2.3 boards and 1.8 assists in 25.5 minutes, and he shot .360 from the field, .363 from downtown and .833 from the line. Known for his outside shooting, he shot 176-485 from three last season, and his 176 3-pointers made ranked 15th in the NBA. In 2015-16, he was one of 11 players in the NBA who made four or more threes in at least 20 games.

For his career, Canaan has played in 146 contests (60 starts) and posted 9.4 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 21.6 minutes, and he owns career-shooting averages of .368 from the field, .363 from behind the arc and .818 from the free throw line. The 25-year old product of Murray State was originally drafted by the Houston Rockets in the second round (No. 34 overall) of the 2013 NBA Draft.

Mavericks sign Quincy Acy

The Mavericks have signed free agent forward Quincy Acy.

Acy (6-7, 240) holds career averages of 4.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 15.3 minutes per game in 219 games (51 starts) with Toronto, Sacramento and New York. He averaged 5.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 14.8 minutes per game in 59 games (29 starts) with the Kings last season.

Acy played four years at Baylor before being selected by Toronto with the 37th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. As a senior in 2011-12, he was named Second-Team All-Big 12 and earned Big 12 All-Defensive Team honors.

Born in Tyler, Texas, Acy went on to attend John Horn High School in Mesquite, Texas.

Acy will wear No. 4 for the Mavericks.
