Warriors waive Dan Dickau

The Golden State Warriors have waived guard Dan Dickau, Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin announced today.

Dickau, who was originally signed as a free agent October 1, appeared in two of Golden State’s first four preseason games, averaging 5.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.00 steals in 12.0 minutes per game.

The Warriors roster now stands at 16 players.

Deron Williams sprains ankle

The Deseret News (Tim Buckley) reports: Jazz point guard Deron Williams sprained his left ankle in the opening quarter of Utah’s preseason game tonight at Chicago. Williams was coming down after taking a 3-pointer with five minutes and 39 seconds to go in the period when he appeared to land on the foot of Bulls rookie point Derrick Rose. He sustained an inversion sprain, but X-rays on the ankle — which appeared to bend quite awkwardly — were negative.

InsideHoops.com editor says: Damn. Well, at least x-rays were negative. Hope he’s OK soon. While D-Will is out, Ronnie Price, Brevin Knight and Gerry McNamara (signed to a nonguaranteed contract) will get additional minutes. Knight is an old veteran and everyone knows what he does, but Price is still improving, while McNamara is trying to claw his way into the league.

Darnell Jackson breaks wrist

The AP reports: Cleveland Cavaliers rookie forward Darnell Jackson is out indefinitely with a fractured left wrist. Jackson, who played in Cleveland’s first four exhibition games, first told the team on Tuesday the wrist was bothering him. He played 11 minutes in Thursday night’s game against San Antonio, and an examination on Friday revealed the fracture. Jackson said the wrist will be in a cast for about 10 days.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer (Brian Windhorst) reports:  The rookie forward is probably going to need some more suits now that he’s facing being on the sidelines for 5-6 weeks after X-rays revealed he’d suffered a fractured left wrist. Jackson said he wasn’t sure when the injury occurred, since the first week of training camp he’d been bothered by soreness and was getting the wrist tapped. But it didn’t get better and became more bothersome.

Delonte West being treated for mood disorders

The AP reports: Cleveland Cavaliers guard Delonte West contemplated quitting before leaving the team’s training camp to seek help for depression and “a mood disorder” he has been battling his entire life. West, who recently signed a two-year contract with Cleveland, said he removed himself from the team to “get my thoughts back together.” He missed three preseason games during his absence from Oct. 4-15. “I felt a feeling of anger and I just wanted to throw it all away and quit the team,” he said… West is taking medication and has been attending therapy sessions.

Mike Wilks badly injured, out for season

The Orlando Sentinel reports: Orlando Magic reserve point guard Mike Wilks is out for the season after sustaining a major injury to his right knee in the team’s game Thursday against the Bobcats in Charlotte, N.C. Wilks, according to his agent, Bill Neff, tore his anterior cruciate ligament, slightly tore the medial collateral ligament and sprained his meniscus.

Clippers waive Curtis Sumpter

The Los Angeles Clippers today waived forward Curtis Sumpter. Sumpter appeared in two preseason games for the Clippers and averaged 1.0 point and 0.5 rebounds in 6.5 minutes per game. The former Villanova star signed with the Clippers on Sept. 26, 2008.

The Clippers roster now stands at 15 players.

I’m rooting for Curtis Sumpter, because I’ve always thought he has a damn cool-sounding name. Seems reason enough. Anyway, I assume he’ll be overseas.

Devin Harris explains UK streetball incident

I’m sure you’ve heard by now about the Devin Harris streetball incident in the UK where a pretty harmless-looking dude had about 60 seconds of success against Devin in a little mini-game of one-on-one. The first shot was a simple but decent close-range jumper, but the second move involved putting the ball through Devin’s legs for a pretty sweet reverse layup.
Thursday night I was with Devin in New Jersey and a full explanation from him as to what happened is here in this Harris interview. Read it and post the link in any discussion you’ve seen about what went down.
