Orlando Magic sign guard Devin Cannady

The Orlando Magic have signed guard Devin Cannady, President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman announced today.

Cannady (6’1”, 190, 5/21/96) was signed to a 10-day contract by Orlando on March 31. He has played in four games, averaging 8.8 ppg., 2.0 apg., 1.5 rpg. and 1.25 stlpg. in 27.8 minpg., while shooting .393 (11-28) from three-point range. Before signing his 10-day contract, Cannady appeared in 16 games (11 starts) this season with Lakeland of the NBA G League, averaging 15.8 ppg., 2.8 rpg. and 1.9 apg. in 26.5 minpg., while shooting .468 (59-126) from three-point range and .957 (22-23) from the free throw line.

Last season (2020-21), Cannady played in eight games with Orlando, averaging 4.3 ppg. in 9.3 minpg. He originally was signed to a 10-day contract by Orlando on Apr. 6, then released on Apr. 13, before signing a two-way contract on Apr. 16. Cannady suffered an open fracture of his right ankle during the first quarter on Apr. 25 vs. Indiana. He was later waived on May 4.

Prior to his time in Orlando last season, Cannady played in 13 games (nine starts) with Lakeland of the NBA G League, averaging 11.7 ppg., 2.8 rpg. and 2.7 apg. in 25.8 minpg., while shooting .400 (28-70) from three-point range. He played and started in all three playoff outings, averaging 15.7 ppg., 4.7 rpg. and 3.3 apg. in 29.7 minpg., while shooting .450 (9-20) from three-point range. During the 2021 NBA G League Final on Mar. 11 vs. Delaware, Cannady tallied 22 points, six rebounds and four assists and was named G League Final MVP, helping Lakeland capture the 2020-21 NBA G League championship.

Cannady has played in 69 career NBA G League games (50 starts) with Long Island and Lakeland, averaging 14.2 ppg., 3.4 rpg. and 2.6 apg. in 29.0 minpg., while shooting .390 (203-520) from three-point range and .933 (84-90) from the free throw line.

Cannady played in 104 career games (67 starts) during four seasons at Princeton University (2015-19), averaging 14.6 ppg., 4.1 rpg., 1.6 apg. and 1.09 stlpg. in 31.1 minpg., while shooting .403 (268-665) from three-point range and a school-record .896 (285-318) from the free throw line. He was named Second Team All-Ivy League as a junior in 2017-18 and Honorable Mention All-Ivy League as a sophomore in 2016-17.

Cannady wears #30 with the Orlando Magic.

Celtics sign forward Juwan Morgan

The Boston Celtics have signed forward Juwan Morgan. This on the final day of the 2021-22 NBA regular season.

Morgan (6-7, 232), 24, has played in 52 games over three NBA seasons with Utah, Toronto, and Boston, averaging 1.5 points on 31-of-59 shooting (52.5% FG), and 1.2 rebounds in 6.0 minutes. The Missouri native played in 33 games for the Maine Celtics of the NBA G League in 2021-22, producing 12.3 points on 53.1% shooting, 6.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 steals in 28.2 minutes. He reached the 20-point mark six times with Maine this season, two of which occurred over his last three games.

Morgan signed a 10-day contract with Boston on March 28 and appeared in one game during that span (April 3 vs. Washington). He originally participated in the team’s training camp earlier this season.

Nets sign Kessler Edwards, who had been on two-way deal, to standard NBA contract

The Brooklyn Nets have signed two-way forward Kessler Edwards to a standard NBA contract.

Edwards (6’8”, 215) was selected by Brooklyn with the 44th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and signed a two-way contract with the Nets on Aug. 16, 2021.

In 47 games (22 starts) for Brooklyn this season, Edwards has averaged 5.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game while shooting 40.8 percent from the field, 35.6 percent from 3-point range and 82.4 percent from the free-throw line.

The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native’s 22 starts mark the most starts for a rookie selected 44th or lower in Nets history. He also appeared in seven games (all starts) for Brooklyn’s NBA G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, during the NBA G League Showcase Cup, posting averages of 15.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 1.6 blocks in 34.0 minutes per contest.

Prior to joining the Nets, Edwards played three collegiate seasons (2018-21) at Pepperdine, where he was an All-WCC First Team selection as a junior, an All-WCC Second Team selection as a sophomore and named to the WCC All-Freshman team after his first season.

Trail Blazers sign Reggie Perry for remainder of season

The Trail Blazers have signed forward/center Reggie Perry for the remainder of the season, the team announced today. The contract is via the NBA’s hardship exception.

Perry, 22, previously signed 10-day contracts with the Trail Blazers on December 28 and March 30. In nine games this season with Portland and Indiana, Perry is averaging 8.0 points (50.0% FG, 66.7% FT), 4.3 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 1.00 steal.

Lakers sign Mac McClung to two-way contract

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Mac McClung to a two-way contract, it was announced today.

McClung appeared in 27 regular season NBA G League games (all starts) for the South Bay Lakers and Windy City Bulls during the 2021-22 season, averaging 21.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 7.6 assists and 1.4 steals in 36.2 minutes. McClung shot 46.7 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from three-point range during his rookie campaign. He has appeared in one career NBA game for the Chicago Bulls, totaling two points in three minutes.

Hawks sign Chaundee Brown Jr. to two-way contract

The Atlanta Hawks have signed guard Chaundee Brown Jr. to a two-way contract.

Brown was signed by the Hawks earlier this season on Dec. 27 to a 10-day contract. He appeared in three games for Atlanta (two starts), averaging 9.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 27.7 minutes (.400 3FG%, .833 FT%). Against the Chicago Bulls on Dec. 29, Brown tallied a career-high 16 points, in addition to three rebounds and three assists in 31.6 minutes.

Prior to his 10-day contract with the Hawks, the 6-5 guard appeared in two games with the Los Angeles Lakers on a two-way contract. In total this season, Brown has seen action in five NBA games (two starts), recording 6.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 20.8 minutes of play.

The Orlando, Fla., native appeared in 30 games (all starts) with the South Bay Lakers of the NBA G League this season, averaging 15.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 30.4 minutes (.447 FG%, .328 3FG%, .833 FT%).

After going undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft, Brown saw action in five Summer League contests with the Lakers and five preseason games. In those five preseason outings, he averaged 7.6 points and 1.4 rebounds in 12.1 minutes (.467 FG%, .455 3FG%, .714 FT%).

Brown played collegiately at Wake Forest (2017-20) before transferring to Michigan (2020-21). During his senior season at Michigan, he helped lead the Wolverines to their fourth consecutive NCAA Sweet 16 and an appearance in the Elite Eight, en route to being named to the All-East Regional Team. Over his four-year collegiate career, Brown saw action in 112 games (77 starts), registering 9.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 24.6 minutes (.435 FG%, .352 3FG%, .812 FT%).

Brown, whose name is pronounced shawn-dee, will wear No. 45.

Lakers sign Wenyen Gabriel to standard NBA contract

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Wenyen Gabriel to a standard NBA contract.

Gabriel originally signed a two-way contract with Los Angeles on March 1, 2022 and has appeared in 17 games (four starts) for the Lakers this season, averaging 5.7 points and 3.8 rebounds in 14.6 minutes. Gabriel has averaged 3.3 points and 2.5 rebounds in 75 career games (five starts) for the Lakers, Clippers, Nets, Pelicans, Trail Blazers and Kings.

Timberwolves sign center Greg Monroe for remainder of season

The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the team has signed center Greg Monroe for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

Per the Minneapolis Star Tribune, “Monroe, 31, played three games with Minnesota in December on a 10-day deal during the Wolves’ COVID-19 outbreak that saw eight players miss games. This time, the 6-foot-11-inch Monroe adds his much needed size to the lineup for the final two regular season games and the probable play-in tournament next week.”

Monroe has played in 12 games this season for the Milwaukee Bucks, Timberwolves, Utah Jazz and Washington Wizards, averaging 5.2 points on 57.1% shooting and 4.7 rebounds per game. His best game of the season came during Minnesota’s 108-103 victory over the Boston Celtics on Dec. 27 where he saw his first regular season NBA minutes since Apr. 10, 2019, registering a season-high 11 points, a season-best nine rebounds and a season-high six assists in 25:01 minutes of action off the bench.

The 6-11 center from Georgetown has played in 644 career games (417 starts) with nine different franchises, averaging 13.0 points on 51.4% shooting and 8.2 rebounds. His best season in the NBA came during the 2012-13 season with the Detroit Pistons where he appeared in 81 games (all starts) and averaged career-highs in scoring (16.0 ppg), assists (3.5 apg), steals (1.3 spg) and minutes (33.2 mpg).

Monroe will be available for tonight’s game against the San Antonio Spurs and will wear uniform #55.

Nets waive James Johnson

The Brooklyn Nets have requested waivers on forward James Johnson.

Johnson signed with the Nets as a free agent on Aug. 6, 2021, and appeared in 62 games (10 starts) for Brooklyn this season, recording averages of 5.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.2 minutes per game. In 747 career games (242 starts) across 13 seasons with Brooklyn, New Orleans, Dallas, Minnesota, Miami, Toronto, Memphis, Sacramento and Chicago, he has averaged 7.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 20.5 minutes per contest.
