Bucks sign Mike Dunleavy Jr

Mike Dunleavy

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed free-agent forward/guard Mike Dunleavy, Jr. (6-9, 220) to a multi-year contract, General Manager John Hammond announced today.

Dunleavy appeared in 61 games for the Pacers last season, his fourth in Indiana, and averaged 11.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest. He scored in double figures 38 times, with Indiana posting a 10-6 mark when he tallied 15+ points. His 102 three-pointers on the season marked the third time in his career that he eclipsed the century mark.

A nine-year NBA veteran, Dunleavy has appeared in 627 games over his career while averaging 12.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He’s averaged 10+ points per game in seven of his nine NBA seasons, including a career-best 19.1 scoring average during the 2007-08 campaign in which he appeared in all 82 games and shot a career-high 42.4 percent from behind the arc (12th in the NBA). For his career, Dunleavy is a 36.1 percent shooter from long distance.

Selected by Golden State with the 3rd overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft, Dunleavy played four-plus seasons with the Warriors before a mid-season trade sent him and three teammates to Indiana in exchange for a package highlighted by new Bucks teammate Stephen Jackson.

Bucks trade Keyon Dooling to Celtics

Keyon Dooling

The Milwaukee Bucks have traded guard Keyon Dooling (6-3, 196) and a protected 2012 second round draft pick to the Boston Celtics for the rights to forward/center Albert Miralles (6-10, 230), General Manager John Hammond announced today.

Dooling, a 6’3” guard, has amassed career averages of 7.2 points and 2.3 assists in 675 games over 11 seasons with the Clippers, Heat, Magic, Nets and Bucks.  Dooling appeared in a career-high 80 games last season for Milwaukee and recorded a career-high 11 assists to go along with 12 points against Cleveland on January 21.  He also recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds at Chicago on January 24.  Dooling led the Bucks in assists in 20 games last season as well as leading the team in steals on 14 occasions.  Over the last three seasons Dooling has shot 38.1 percent from three-point territory. The former Missouri Tiger posted his highest scoring season during the 2008-09 campaign while with the Nets averaging 9.7 points and a career-high 3.5 assists per game.

Miralles, 29, was originally selected by Toronto (39th overall) in the 2004 Draft, but was traded to Miami on draft night for the draft rights to Pape Sow.  The following off-season, Miralles was dealt to Boston as part of the Antoine Walker trade.  A native of Barcelona, Miralles has not played in the NBA, but has played professionally in Spain and Italy, most recently with Angelico Biella (Italy – Serie-A).

An 11-year veteran, Dooling played in 80 games for the Bucks last season and averaged 7.1 points, 3.0 assists and 1.5 rebounds per contest.  He has averaged 7.2 points, 2.3 assists and 1.4 rebounds in 675 career NBA games.

Bucks will trade Keyon Dooling to Celtics

Keyon Dooling

The Celtics are going to announce the acquisition of veteran point guard Keyon Dooling from the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday, the first day of training camp and trades can become official, according to a league source.

The deal is expected to include a second-round draft pick headed to Milwaukee and it gives the Celtics a veteran backup point guard behind Rajon Rondo, who remains a Celtic after Chris Paul was dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers. The deal is somewhat complicated because the Celtics are over the salary cap.

Mike Dunleavy Jr to join Bucks

Mike Dunleavy Jr

League sources indicated Thursday the Milwaukee Bucks will sign guard-forward Mike Dunleavy Jr. when contracts can officially be offered to free agents Friday.

The deal is expected to be for two years and in the $7.5 million range, meaning the Bucks are using some of their mid-level exception on the veteran, who is an unrestricted free agent.

Dunleavy averaged 11.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 61 games with the Indiana Pacers last season

The 6-foot-9 Dunleavy played the last 4 1/2 seasons with the Pacers after beginning his NBA career with the Golden State Warriors.

T.J. Ford will sign with Spurs

TJ Ford

After agreeing to sign a contract with the Spurs that will make him Tony Parker’s primary backup at the point guard position, former University of Texas star T.J. Ford said he was anxious to open training camp with the Spurs on Friday.

“I can’t wait to get there,” he said from his home in Houston.

Ford is expected to sign a contract for the NBA veteran minimum. With eight seasons in the NBA with Milwaukee, Toronto and Indiana, that makes the deal worth $1.266 million, which will be pro-rated for the shortened season.

Just one week removed from playing for KK Zagreb in the Euroleague, where he emigrated after the NBA locked out its players in July, Ford said he is more than ready for the start of Spurs camp.

Milwaukee Bucks agree to one-year lease with Bradley Center

milwaukee bucks

The Bradley Center and the Milwaukee Bucks have reached agreement on a new one-year lease that covers last season, but the deal also contains a provision in which the NBA team won’t get any money until professional basketball resumes.

The Bradley Center owes the Bucks $9.5 million. But in the new agreement, those payments have been extended further to as late as 2019.

The agreement, announced Thursday, is a reflection of reality given the inability of the players’ association and NBA owners to find a way to end their lockout, as well as the Bradley Center’s own challenged financial condition.

Talks between the players and the league continued Thursday night, with some signs that the lockout will end and a partial season will be played.

The new Bradley Center-Bucks agreement establishes a prorated payment plan on all concession, catering and suite-shared revenue payments to the Bucks based on the actual number of games played.

At all events at the Bradley Center, the Bucks receive 27.5% of concession sales and 13.75% of food beverage sales in the suites. The team also receives 30% of all merchandise sales at Bucks’ games.

Also, the Bucks pay no rent at the facility.

Mike Sergo has been named as the Milwaukee Bucks Equipment Manager, the organization announced today.  Sergo will be responsible for purchasing and maintaining all non-medical equipment for the basketball facilities at the Bradley Center and the Bucks Training Center, and traveling full-time with the club, where he is responsible for the team equipment on the road.

Sergo enters his 10th season as a full-time member of the Bucks basketball staff, having worked as the assistant video coordinator the previous nine seasons.  He began working part-time in the video scouting department during the 1995-96 season.

A Milwaukee native, Sergo graduated from Wautoma High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Due to insurance issues, Andrew Bogut will not play in Australia

andrew bogut

Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut will not play for the Sydney Kings or any other Australian team due to insurance issues, Bogut’s agent, David Bauman, confirmed Thursday.

Bogut had hoped to play for the Sydney team in the Australian national league (NBL). Two other teams – Adelaide and Gold Coast – also had expressed interest in signing Bogut.

Bauman said Bogut needed coverage for the $39.5 million and three years remaining on the 7-foot center’s contract with the Bucks.

“If Andrew goes back with a broken leg or a broken ankle, the Bucks might say, ‘Cancel the contract,’ ” Bauman said in a phone interview Thursday. “This is something players get, but the Bucks still might be in a position, given a new CBA (collective bargaining agreement), to terminate the deal.

“There was no way to resolve that type of issue. It was too much of a risk.”

Andrew Bogut will play for Sydney Kings if insurance is worked out

Andrew Bogut

Andrew Bogut has committed to joining the Sydney Kings on the provision he is able to secure an insurance policy for his whopping $39 million contract with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Bogut had been linked to short-term deals with several NBL clubs while the NBA lockout over a pay dispute continues, but today the Australian Boomers star confirmed that Sydney was his club of choice.

He will not be available for the season opener between the Kings and old rivals Melbourne tomorrow night because the insurance situation is yet to be resolved.
