Timberwolves to hold training camp in San Diego

NBA preseason starts in just about three weeks, and we cannot wait. But before preseason games are played, training camps are held. Many teams take the opportunity to travel, see someplace new, relocate and bond while on the road. As for the Timberwolves, here’s the Minneapolis Star Tribune reporting:

The Timberwolves today announced their training-camp schedule, which starts a week early this year both because the NBA season starts a week earlier this season and because they have that preseason trip to China, too.

The Wolves will hold training camp in San Diego at two local universities for seven days before they play the Lakers in a preseason game in Anaheim on Sept. 30.

They’ll have their traditional media at their Mayo Clinic Square training facility on Sept. 22 and then fly immediately after that to Califonia. Their first camp practice is the next morning, Saturday, Sept. 23.

Timberwolves free agency update

At this point in the NBA offseason, most difference-making free agents have found homes for the upcoming season. But there’s still talent out there to be found. Here’s the St Paul Pioneer Press:

September is a few days away and the Wolves still have four roster spots to fill.

A few of those could be filled shortly. In a radio appearance Monday with Chad Hartman on WCCO-830 AM, Thibodeau said something “absolutely” should happen within the next two weeks. Minnesota is pressed up against the salary cap and only has minimum salaries to offer.

Thibideau said the Timberwolves have “some offers” out to players who are assessing their options. He said there are players available who have played roles, and even started, in the NBA…

Exactly who are those players? Thibodeau refused to say, but guys like Tony Allen, Dante Cunningham and Anthony Morrow make sense. One name Thibodeau confirmed the Wolves have talked to: Shabazz Muhammad, who the Wolves let become a free agent this summer.

New Timberwolves uniforms

The Minnesota Timberwolves today introduced some of their new uniform designs, which will be worn by the team beginning with the 2017-18 season.

The two designs unveiled today are the “Association” and “Icon” jerseys. As previously announced by Nike, the NBA is eliminating its Home and Road uniform designations, and instead, home teams will pick which of their uniforms will be worn at all home games, with visiting teams choosing a contrasting uniform from their own assortment.

Two additional core uniform designs will be revealed in the coming months.

The uniform looks were created through a collaborative effort between the Timberwolves and Mississippi-based design expert Rodney Richardson of RARE Design.
