The Oklahoma City Thunder acquired a trade exception and a 2015 protected second round draft pick from the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for center Hasheem Thabeet and cash considerations, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti.
The Thunder will have one year from today to utilize the trade exception.
The Philadelphia 76ers finished last season with a 19-63 record. They were (and still are) rebuilding. And they were miserable. Nevertheless, over an 82-game season, highlights do exist. Enjoy this video:

While news came out yesterday that Minnesota and Cleveland had agreed in principle to a trade that will send All-Star Kevin Love to the Cavaliers for Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and a first-round draft pick, the Daily News has learned that the Sixers will, indeed, be involved in the deal.
A source informed the Daily News that the Sixers will be sending veteran forward Thaddeus Young to Minnesota for a package that will include Bennett, the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NBA draft.
The deal, which two sources have confirmed to the Associated Press, will not be official until Aug. 23, when Wiggins, this year’s No. 1 draft pick, becomes eligible to be traded.

The league is looking into changing how the draft works, so that the bottom feeders of the league aren’t assured a top pick. A source told the Daily News that the NBA “has a strong incentive to get this done this year” on changing how the draft works. The source also said that the move is directly related to what the Sixers did last season and what they are forecasted to do this season, with top pick Joel Embiid most likely sidelined for the season after foot surgery and 10th pick Dario Saric contractually bound for two more seasons of play in Turkey.
An ESPN.com report said the Sixers have objected to the possible overhauling of the lottery for 2015, as they possibly could be hurt the most by the proposed changes.
That will probably all be sorted out in October, when the NBA’s Board of Governors meets. In the meantime, it will be another year of some bad basketball, a lot of players hitting the floor that maybe shouldn’t even be in the NBA and a whole lot of losses for the Sixers.

Ronald Roberts Jr. aims to prove he’s a keeper.
An undrafted rookie free agent with the 76ers, Roberts came to the Orlando Pro Summer League with a chip on his shoulder. The power forward/center out of St. Joseph’s plans to give all he can on every possession.
“For me, this is a critical moment,” said Roberts, who finished with 12 points and six rebounds Sunday in an 84-73 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on the Amway Center’s practice court.
“I just want to show everybody what I’ve got,” he said, “just playing my heart out [to] make my dreams come true. Like I said, when I [went undrafted], I went to the court. . . . I just want to show these people.”

Casper Ware was impressive enough this past season to turn a 10-day contract into a season-ending roster spot with the 76ers.
The 5-foot-10 point guard will be looked upon to provide leadership during Saturday’s Orlando Summer League opener against the Magic at Amway Center.
But his earning a roster spot for the forthcoming season is far from guaranteed.
The Sixers acquired Pierre Jackson from the New Orleans Pelicans in a NBA draft-night trade for second-rounder Russ Smith.
Jackson and Ware are the same height. Both are scoring point guards.

Though Nerlens Noel participated only about 45 minutes during the first day of the Sixers’ Orlando Summer League minicamp yesterday, he did enough to leave an impression on some of his teammates.
Hollis Thompson wanted to test the young defender once during practice and got a rude awakening. Thompson went to leap for a dunk and Noel sent it across the practice gym.
Despite being away from playing for a year, it seems as if the No. 6 pick of the 2013 NBA draft is going into Orlando with a full head of steam.
“He’s full throttle,” Thompson said, chuckling as he recalled his shot getting stuffed by Noel. “He’s moving well, running all over the court and blocking everything. I’m excited to play with Nerlens.”

The Philadelphia 76ers announced today they have waived guard James Anderson.
Anderson appeared in 80 games last year for the Sixers and averaged 10 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in 29 minutes per game. In four NBA seasons, Anderson has appeared in 196 games with 68 starts, averaging 6 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist in 18 minutes per game.
The Sixers claimed Anderson off of waivers on July 16, 2013.
The Philadelphia 76ers announced that they have acquired the rights to Pierre Jackson from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for the 47th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
Jackson was originally drafted 42nd overall in 2013 and was part of the trade between Philadelphia and New Orleans that netted the Sixers Nerlens Noel and the 10th overall pick in this year’s draft.
Jackson averaged 30 points, 7 assists, 2 steals, 2 rebounds and 1 block in 31 games for the NBA Development League’s Idaho Stampede in 2013-14. He scored a D-League single game record 58 points on February 4, 2014 and was named to the D-League’s Futures All-Star Roster in 2014. During his senior year at Baylor University, he was named First Team All-Big 12 and was named the Most Outstanding Player in the 2013 NIT.
The Orlando Magic have acquired the draft rights to guard Elfrid Payton (10th overall pick) from Philadelphia in exchange for the draft rights to Dario Saric (12th overall pick), a second round pick in 2015 and a future first round pick (the pick that was acquired by Orlando from Philadelphia in the Dwight Howard trade), General Manager Rob Hennigan announced tonight.
Payton (6’3”, 190, 2/22/94) played in 100 career games during three years at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, averaging 14.3 ppg., 5.1 rpg., 4.9 apg. and 1.97 stlpg. in 31.6 minpg. He is the school’s all-time leader in steals with 197.
As a junior (2013-14), Payton played and started all 35 games, averaging a team-high 19.2 ppg., 6.0 rpg., 5.9 apg. and 2.29 stlpg. in 35.9 minpg., while shooting .509 (237-466) from the floor. He led the Ragin’ Cajuns to a 23-12 record and their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2005. Payton was named the 2013-14 Lefty Driesell National Defensive Player of the Year and a Lou Henson All-American. He earned First Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors for the second straight season and was the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Payton led the conference in steals for the second straight year with 80. He scored 20+ points 14 times, had 30-or-more points four times and attempted a school-record 302 free throws (second in the nation). Payton was also one of only ten NCAA Division I players to record a triple-double with 34 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists on Jan. 4 vs. Lousiana-Monroe.
During his sophomore season (2012-13), Payton played and started all 33 games, averaging a team-high 15.9 ppg., 5.6 rpg., 5.5 apg. and 2.42 stlpg. in 35.5 minpg., earning First Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors. He was the only player in NCAA Division I to average 15.0 ppg., 5.0 rpg., 5.0 apg. and 2.00 stlpg. Payton led the Sun Belt Conference in assists and steals, ranked second in minutes played, third in scoring, fifth in assists-to-turnover ratio (1.60) and ninth in field goal percentage (.475).
As a freshman (2011-12), Payton played in all 32 games (11 starts), averaging 7.2 ppg., 3.6 rpg., 3.0 apg. and 1.16 stlpg. in 22.7 minpg., leading the team in assists.
