The AP reports: Shaquille O’Neal kissed Caron Butler on the head, got a technical for hanging on the rim and thumped Andray Blatche into a knee-buckling injury. He also scored 29 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots… O’Neal and the Phoenix Suns wrapped up a six-game East Coast swing Monday night with a 103-87 win over the Washington Wizards, who suffered the indignity of falling behind the Oklahoma City Thunder to take sole possession of the NBA cellar… Amare Stoudemire added 22 points and 15 rebounds, Leandro Barbosa scored 23 points, and Steve Nash had 14 points and 15 assists for the Suns, whose 53-38 rebounding advantage helped overcome their 17 turnovers. Caron Butler scored 28 points, and Jamison had 27 points and 13 rebounds for the Wizards, but they didn’t get much help as Washington lost for the 10th time in 12 games. The rest of the team scored 32 points on 17-for-41 shooting.

Oden and Roy lead Blazers 100-87 over Wizards
The AP reports: Greg Oden took another step in his rookie progression with a second solid performance in less than a week. The 7-foot center had 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Portland Trail Blazers in a 100-87 victory over the Washington Wizards on Saturday night… Portland led by as many as 22 points. Brandon Roy scored 22 points and tied a franchise high with 10 steals. Caron Butler had 31 points and 10 rebounds for the Wizards, who have lost nine of 11… The injury-depleted Wizards, who have been playing without All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas and center Brendan Haywood all season so far, lost 117-97 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night. They didn’t fare any better against the Blazers.
Lakers easily beat Wizards by 20
Thursday evening the Los Angeles Lakers hosted the Washington Wizards and easily won on their home court, 117-97. With 23 points and 14 rebounds from center Andrew Bynum, the Lakers took a 6 point lead after the first quarter, scored 41 in the second quarter for a 72-47 halftime lead, and never looked back.
Los Angeles also got 18 points from Pau Gasol.
Kobe Bryant had a quiet evening, shooting just 4-of-11 for 11 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists.
Four Lakers reserves scored 10 or more points in the blowout win.
Antawn Jamison led the Wizards with 19 points. JaVale McGee came off the bench for 18 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks in 23 minutes. Caron Butler had just 12 points, plus six assists.
As a team, the Lakers dished an amazing 35 assists.
Jamison, Wizards top Kings
The AP reports: Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler helped the Washington Wizards pick up a rare road victory. Jamison had 33 points and nine rebounds and Butler scored 30 for the Wizards, who held off the Sacramento Kings for a 110-107 win on Wednesday night. Andray Blatche added 20 points for Washington. The Wizards had lost seven of their eight previous games and are 3-17 on the road… Kevin Martin added 22 points and Garcia had 14 for the Kings, who have dropped three straight and four of five.
JaVale McGee still unused
The Washington Post (Ivan Carter) reports (via blog): When Etan Thomas went down with a torn MCL in his left knee, many assumed that rookie center JaVale McGee would see an increased role. To this point, that still hasn’t really happened. McGee, who started 13 games earlier in the season and has flashed talent while showing that he’s still a raw young guy with plenty to learn, played 14 minutes against Milwaukee, 16 minutes at New York, four minutes at home against the Knicks and five minutes yesterday at Golden State against a team that doesn’t employ a traditional center. Clearly, interim coach Tapscott still feels more comfortable starting Andray Blatche at center and playing Darius Songaila long minutes at that spot. Blatche put up 22 points and nine rebounds in 33 minutes yesterday while Songaila posted six points, two rebounds and two assists in 15 minutes.
Warriors roll past Wizards
The AP reports: Jamal Crawford had 28 points and eight assists, and Stephen Jackson added 26 points in the Warriors’ third win in four home games, 119-98 over Washington on Monday in a rare matinee game at Oracle Arena… Corey Maggette scored 16 points for the Warriors, who had won three of four just once previously in their disappointing season. Golden State comfortably held off the Wizards, hitting 13 3-pointers and making 53 percent of its shots against Washington’s sketchy defense… Anthony Morrow added 11 points for Golden State, and Andris Biedrins had 15 rebounds. Jackson and Azubuike hit three 3-pointers apiece, mostly with no hands in their faces.
Wizards use 15-0 run late in game to beat Knicks
The AP reports: Trailing 87-81 with 4:35 to play, the Wizards ran off 15 straight points to break a six-game losing streak and beat the New York Knicks 96-89. Washington has suffered 12 defeats after leading in the fourth quarter, and just two nights ago, they allowed New York to score 128 points against them. Things didn’t look promising until Antawn Jamison, who led the Wizards with 28 points, hit a layup to start the big run. Mike James added a 3-pointer and Nick Young a jumper, and suddenly the Wizards had their first lead since early in the third quarter… Mike James finished with 19 points for the Wizards, while Nick Young—who set career highs in three of his past four games, including 33 points against New York on Wednesday—finished with 13… The Knicks were led by Al Harrington’s 18 points. Wilson Chandler had 16 and David Lee had 15 points while matching a career high with 21 rebounds.
Wizards interviews: Nick Young playing great
Here is Washington Wizards interim head coach Ed Tapscott:
On Nick Young’s recent play (25.8 ppg, .717 fg% in last four games): “Nick has hit a spot where he’s got his rhythm back and he feels good about what he’s doing. He knows we’re going to run some plays for him so he doesn’t feel pressed and he knows he’s going to get minutes. When all of a sudden you get minutes and plays called for you, you can be selective, and better shots mean more minutes. People now are going to game-plan for him. He has to be prepared for one of those games where they have someone trying to deny him, and instead of getting 33 points he gets 16 and still feels like he has a good game because he helped open up the floor for other people.”
On last night’s game versus the New York Knicks: “The Knicks try to make you play fast, and like I said last night they did a better job of imposing their play-style on the game. We played well offensively. We scored a lot of points. Normally 122 points wins you a lot of basketball games, but we didn’t play very well defensively. They imposed their style of play on the game much more effectively than we did.”
On today’s practice: “Today we decided to go with more of a mental practice than anything physical because we’re going to play the same team (tomorrow night). With their pace, you want rested legs. Now the real key is figuring out how to impose our style of play on the game with more effectiveness.”
Hers is Wizards small forward Caron Butler:
On last night’s game versus the New York Knicks: “It was a lot of up-and-down fast tempo play. It was a tough loss obviously, but hopefully we can redeem ourselves tomorrow night in our building.”
On Nick Young: “He’s on a roll. He’s scoring at a rapid pace. Scoring 33 points in three quarters is unbelievable. Just to come out and be aggressive the way he has, assert himself early and establish a rhythm is unbelievable, and it shows a lot about him as a player. Now you’re seeing him explore with his ability. He’s getting the ball and he’s being real creative. He’s doing some stuff on the fly, and that’s what makes a special player.”
And here is Wizards guard Nick Young:
On his recent play: “I’m feeling good. The difference has been my confidence level. Coach is running plays for me, and seeing my shot go in is always good. Gil (Arenas) has been staying after practice with me, so I’ve been getting extra shots and working out with him.”
On if teams will start game-planning for him: “The more Antawn and CB (Caron Butler) get going (other teams) are not going to worry about me (as much). If we get them going early, I can come in and be that spark off of the bench.”
Lee helps Knicks roll past Wizards
The AP reports: David Lee had 30 points and 10 rebounds, reserve Al Harrington scored 27 points, and the Knicks handed the Wizards their sixth straight loss with a 128-122 victory Wednesday night… Quentin Richardson added 26 points for the Knicks, who have piled up the points in the first three meetings with the Wizards this season and can complete a season sweep for the first time since 2003-04 by grabbing the back end of a home-and-home series Friday in Washington… Chris Duhon finished with 17 points and nine assists for the Knicks, who scored 114 and 122 points in their two earlier victories over Washington—which fired Eddie Jordan two days after the second one… Washington’s Nick Young scored 33 points, establishing a career high for the third time in four games, and Caron Butler added 25. Mike James had 20 points, but the Wizards stumbled when he had to leave with five fouls.
