Nuggets sign DeMarcus Cousins for remainder of NBA season

The Denver Nuggets have signed center DeMarcus Cousins for the remainder of the season, President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly announced today.

Cousins, 6-10, 270, has appeared in eight games with Denver this season, averaging 6.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 13.1 minutes per game while helping the Nuggets to a perfect 8-0 record in those games. He previously appeared in 17 games (five starts) for the Milwaukee Bucks this season, averaging 9.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists while shooting 46.6% from the field in 16.9 minutes per game. Cousins scored 10+ points in six games and posted two double-doubles in his stint with Milwaukee.

The 10-year NBA veteran has played in 631 career games (559 starts) with Sacramento, New Orleans, Golden State, Houston, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee and Denver, holding career averages of 19.9 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.2 blocks in 30.4 minutes per game. Cousins has reached the playoffs twice, in 2019 and 2021, appearing in 15 games (five starts), averaging 7.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 12.7 minutes.

The fifth overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft, Cousins was selected to four all-star games as a member of the Sacramento Kings (2015-17) and New Orleans Pelicans (2018). He was also named to the All-NBA Second Team in 2015 and 2016 and he was a gold medal winner for the United States in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, as well as the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Bucks waive DeMarcus Cousins

The Milwaukee Bucks have waived center DeMarcus Cousins.

Signed by the Bucks on Nov. 30, Cousins appeared in 17 games (five starts) with Milwaukee and averaged 8.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 16.9 minutes per game.

Per CBS Sports, “it is possible that Cousins’ replacement is already on the roster. Luke Kornet signed a 10-day contract on Monday. It is unlikely, however, that the Bucks will simply fill their vacant roster spot in the immediate future. Keeping it open gives the front office more flexibility in between now and the Feb. 10 trade deadline.”

At 31 years old, Cousins in recent NBA seasons finds himself trying to prove to NBA teams that he is worth keeping on a roster. He scored 25.2 points per game in 2017-18 with the Pelicans, 16.3 ppg in 2018-19 with the Warriors, then missed serious time with a major injury, and in the past few seasons has bounced around with the Rockets, Clippers and Bucks, averaging below 10 ppg with each team, and now finds himself a free agent once again.

The Bucks roster is now stands at 17 players.

Bucks sign DeMarcus Cousins

The Milwaukee Bucks yesterday signed free agent center DeMarcus Cousins.

“DeMarcus is incredibly talented and his size, toughness and experience will help us,” said Bucks General Manager Jon Horst. “He will provide added depth to our front court rotation and we look forward to working him into our system.”

Cousins, 31, is a 10-year NBA veteran whose recent seasons have been a struggle. His career averages are excellent: 20.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.2 blocked shots in 606 career regular season games for the Kings, Pelicans, Warriors, Rockets and Clippers.

The fifth overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, Cousins most recently played in 41 games (11 starts) last season with Houston (25 games, 11 starts) and the Los Angeles Clippers (16 games), combining to average 8.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 17.4 minutes per game.

Cousins was selected to four All-Star games while a member of the Sacramento Kings (2015-17) and New Orleans Pelicans (2018) and was named to the All-NBA Second Team in 2015 and 2016. He was a gold medal winner for the United States in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, as well as the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He reached the playoffs twice (2019, Golden State, and 2021, LA Clippers) during his career, but did not play in the 2019-20 season due to injury.

Cousins will wear No. 15 with the Bucks.

Clippers keep DeMarcus Cousins for another 10 days

DeMarcus Cousins’ attempt to put himself back on the basketball map will continue with the Clippers, at least for another 10 days. Via the OC Register:

The team tweeted Friday morning it had signed veteran center DeMarcus Cousins to a second 10-day contract. The 30-year-old appeared in three games since joining the team on his first 10-day deal April 5, averaging six points and three rebounds in 9.7 minutes per contest. He’s 7 for 15 from the field as a Clipper so far.

Despite Cousins’ limited usage, coach Tyronn Lue made it clear after Wednesday’s win in Detroit that the Clippers are high on the four-time All-Star, known affectionately as “Boogie,” who joined the team after being waived by Houston 25 games into the season.

The LA Clippers have signed center DeMarcus Cousins to a 10-day contract.

Cousins, 30, holds career averages of 20.8 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.2 blocks in 590 appearances with the Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans, Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets. The 6-foot-10 center is one of 11 players in NBA history to average at least 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists. Originally the fifth overall selection in the 2010 NBA Draft, Cousins is a four-time All-Star, a two-time All-NBA Second Team member, and an Olympic Gold Medalist with Team USA.

A native of Mobile, Ala., Cousins appeared in 25 games for the Rockets this season and averaged 9.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 20.2 minutes.

NBA fines Markieff Morris and DeMarcus Cousins

Los Angeles Lakers forward Markieff Morris has been fined $35,000 and Houston Rockets center DeMarcus Cousins has been fined $10,000 for their roles in an on-court altercation, it was announced today by Kiki VanDeWeghe, Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.

The incident, which occurred with 2:15 remaining in the first quarter of the Lakers’ 120-102 victory over the Rockets on Jan. 10 at Toyota Center, began when Morris committed a Flagrant Foul 1 by knocking Rockets forward Jae’Sean Tate to the ground.

Cousins continued the incident by shoving Morris to the floor, for which Cousins was assessed a technical foul. Morris further escalated the situation by charging after Cousins, shoving him and continuing to aggressively pursue him. Morris was assessed a technical foul and ejected.

Lakers sign Markieff Morris, waive DeMarcus Cousins

The Los Angeles Lakers signed forward Markieff Morris and waived center DeMarcus Cousins today.

In 623 career games (347 starts) for Phoenix, Washington, Oklahoma City and Detroit, Morris has averaged 11.6 points (.449 FG%), 5.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 25.7 minutes per game. He played in 44 games (16 starts) for the Pistons this season, notching 11.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 22.5 minutes while shooting a career-best 39.7 percent from three-point range.

The Kansas University product owns 46 career double-doubles and has scored 20 or more points on 78 occasions. In 24 NBA Playoff games (19 starts) for the Wizards and Thunder, Morris has totaled 9.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 block per game.

DeMarcus Cousins using G League to prepare for NBA return

DeMarcus Cousins, coming off injury, is now in the G League, only temporarily, for health rehab purposes, preparing for big-time basketball with the Warriors. Here’s the San Jose Mercury News with an update:

With about 10 minutes left in his second practice with the Santa Cruz Warriors, all-star center DeMarcus Cousins threw down a thunderous dunk that gave a glimmer of what could be when he eventually returns to the lineup.

“It felt good,” Cousins said. “It’s all coming back for me, slowly but surely. But it felt good to get up and dunk a little bit.”

Cousins, who tore his Achilles in January, went through a full practice with the G-League squad Wednesday morning, participating in a five-on-five scrimmage that included two six-minute periods. The session was a part of a plan to send Cousins — who signed a one-year, $5.3 million deal in July — back and forth to Santa Cruz in an effort to ramp up his workload.
