Orlando Magic renegotiate and extend contract of Jonathan Isaac

The Orlando Magic in the first week of July agreed to renegotiate and extend the contract of forward Jonathan Isaac.

Isaac (6’10”, 233, 10/3/97) played in 58 games (two starts) last season with Orlando, averaging 6.8 ppg., 4.5 rpg. and a team-high 1.21 blkpg. in 15.8 minpg., while shooting .510 (146-286) from the floor and .375 (42-112) from three-point range. He tied for 14th in the NBA in blocked shots. Isaac led (or tied) the team in scoring once and in rebounding five times. He scored in double figures 13 times and 20+ points once, including a career-high-tying 25 points on Mar. 23 vs. Sacramento. Isaac recorded at least one blocked shot 41 times and two-or-more blocks 21 times, while notching at least one steal 33 times and two-or-more steals 10 times. He also played in seven playoff games (three starts), averaging 6.3 ppg., 4.9 rpg. and 1.29 blkpg. in 21.0 minpg.

Originally selected in the first round (sixth overall) of the 2017 NBA Draft by Orlando, Isaac has played in 205 career NBA regular season games (108 starts), all with the Magic, averaging 8.4 ppg., 5.1 rpg. and 1.37 blkpg. in 22.2. He stands ninth on the Magic’s all-time blocked shots list with 280.

Magic forward Jonathan Isaac undergoes season-ending surgery

Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac underwent surgery on Friday morning to repair a torn left adductor muscle and will miss the remainder of the 2022-23 regular season.

An MRI conducted Wednesday revealed the injury, after he felt discomfort following Tuesday’s practice in Milwaukee.

“Our thoughts are with Jonathan, whose fortitude in dealing with adversity is unique,” said Orlando Magic President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman. “Jonathan has worked extremely hard to return to the court this season and has demonstrated his impact on our team. We will be by his side as he focuses on the work ahead.”

Isaac (6’10”, 230, 10/3/97) played in 11 games this season, averaging 5.0 ppg., 4.0 rpg. and 1.27 stlpg. in 11.3 minpg.

Originally selected in the first round (sixth overall) of the 2017 NBA Draft by Orlando, Isaac has appeared in 147 career NBA regular season games (106 starts), all with the Magic, averaging 9.0 ppg., 5.3 rpg., 1.0 apg., 1.43 blkpg. and 1.08 stlpg. in 24.7 minpg. He has also played and started in five career playoff outings, averaging 6.6 ppg., 6.2 rpg. and 1.00 blkpg. in 27.3 minpg.

Jonathan Isaac set to make long-awaited return for Orlando Magic

After over 2 1/2 years away from an NBA floor, Jonathan Isaac could make his return to the Orlando Magic tomorrow.

The Magic are going to list Jonathan Isaac as questionable for Monday’s home game vs. the Celtics, league sources told the Orlando Sentinel Sunday afternoon.

Isaac was drafted 6th in 2017, and averaged 5.4 points per game for the Magic as a rookie, 9.6 PPG in year two, and in 2019-20 was averaging 11.9 PPG and 6.8 RPG before suffering a major knee injury.

Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac isn’t sure of his exact return date from injury just yet. Via the Orlando Sentinel:

The 6-foot-11, 230-pound Issac has been sidelined since Aug. 2, 2020, missing the entire 2020-21 season, and he continues to rehabilitate from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left leg…

He suffered the injury during the Magic’s second seeding game in the summer of 2020 inside the NBA bubble against the Sacramento Kings at Walt Disney World.

Magic sign Markelle Fultz and Jonathan Isaac to contract extensions

The Orlando Magic yesterday signed guard Markelle Fultz and forward Jonathan Isaac to contract extensions.

“We are thrilled to keep both Markelle (Fultz) and Jonathan (Isaac) in a Magic uniform,” said Magic President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman. “They both have a very bright future and they mean a lot to our organization, both on and off the court.”

Per multiple reports, Fultz’s contract extension is for three years, $50 million, and Isaac’s extension is for four years, $80 million.

Fultz (6’4”, 209, 5/29/98) played in 72 games (60 starts) last season with Orlando, averaging 12.1 ppg., a team-high 5.1 apg., 3.3 rpg. and 1.25 stlpg. in 27.7 minpg. He was tied for 30th in the NBA in steals and tied for 32nd in assists. Fultz led (or tied) the team in scoring four times, in rebounding once and in assists a team-high 31 times. He scored in double figures 51 times and 20+ points six times, including a career-high 25 points on Jan. 6 vs. Brooklyn. Fultz dished out 10+ assists five times, including a career-high 14 assists on Feb. 3 @ Charlotte. He had four double-doubles and recorded his second career triple-double on Jan. 15 @ L.A. Lakers with 21 points, a career-high 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Fultz also appeared and started in five playoff games, averaging 12.0 ppg., 5.2 apg., 2.2 rpg. and 1.00 stlpg. in 29.3 minpg.

Originally selected in the first round (first overall) of the 2017 NBA Draft by Philadelphia, Fultz has appeared in 105 career NBA regular season games (75 starts) with Philadelphia and Orlando, averaging 10.7 ppg., 4.6 apg., 3.3 rpg. and 1.13 stlpg. in 25.5 minpg. He has also played in eight career playoff games (five starts), averaging 8.1 ppg., 3.9 apg. and 1.8 rpg. in 21.3 minpg.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, “the three-year deal represents a commitment by the Magic but also gives Fultz a chance to hit unrestricted free agency in the prime of his career. He’ll be 26 when the contract expires. Isaac, meanwhile, began to emerge as one of the league’s elite defenders last season before a knee injury Jan. 1 halted his season. Isaac returned during the NBA restart and looked like he hadn’t missed a beat before sustaining an ACL tear in the same knee. He’s out for the upcoming season as he rehabs the surgically-repaired knee.”

Isaac scored in double figures 23 times and 20+ points four times, including a career-high 25 points on Nov. 23 @ Indiana. He had five double-doubles and pulled down 10+ rebounds six times, including a career-high-tying 13 rebounds on Nov. 20 @ Toronto. Isaac had at least one blocked shot 30 times and two-or-more blocks 23 times, including a career-high six blocked shots on Nov. 6 @ Dallas. He also had at least one steal 24 times and two-or-more steals 13 times, including a career-high seven steals on Dec. 28 @ Milwaukee.

Isaac missed 39 games last season due to injury, including 31 games (Jan. 3-Mar. 10) due to a posterior lateral corner injury/medial bone contusion of his left knee that he sustained on Jan. 1 @ Washington. He then returned during the NBA restart at Disney, but then suffered a torn left anterior cruciate ligament on Aug. 2 vs. Sacramento. Isaac missed the 2020 NBA Playoffs and underwent successful surgery on Aug. 7.

Magic forward Jonathan Isaac undergoes surgery for torn ACL

Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac underwent surgery today on his left knee to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscal tear. The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert LaPrade.

Isaac will be out indefinitely and his return to the court will depend on how he responds to treatment and rehabilitation. He suffered the injury on August 2 during the fourth quarter of the Magic’s victory against Sacramento.

Isaac (6’10”, 230, 10/3/97) has played in 34 games (32 starts) this season for Orlando, averaging 11.9 ppg., 6.8 rpg., 1.4 apg., 2.29 blkpg. and 1.56 stlpg. in 28.8 minpg.

The Magic are currently playing the Sixers. If Orlando wins, they clinch the final-remaining Eastern conference playoff spot.

Earlier today, the Nets beat the Kings, which clinched a playoff spot for the Nets.

The Magic will also clinch a playoff spot if the Wizards lose tonight.

Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac suffered a left knee injury with 9:19 remaining in the fourth quarter tonight against Sacramento. He underwent an MRI immediately after the game. Results revealed that Isaac has sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Isaac will be out indefinitely and his return to the court will depend on how he responds to treatment and rehabilitation.

Magic forward Jonathan Isaac out 8-10 weeks with knee injury

Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac, who suffered a hyperextended left knee early first quarter during Orlando’s 122-101 road win January 1 against the Wizards, on Jan. 1, underwent an MRI yesterday which revealed a posterior lateral corner injury and a medial bone contusion.

Isaac will be re-evaluated in 8-10 weeks.

The team says that operative and non-operative treatments will be considered and his return to the court will depend on how he responds to treatment and rehabilitation.

“While this certainly is disappointing news, there was no damage to his ACL, MCL and PCL ligaments,” said Orlando Magic President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman. “All signs point to a complete recovery and this should not impact his future growth.”

According to the Orlando Sentinel, “Isaac injured his knee when he tried to convert a steal into a layup. Isaac’s knee buckled as he tried to slip past Wizards guard Bradley Beal and get to the basket. As Isaac tried to step across Beal and get into the lane, video showed the back of Isaac’s left leg catching Beal’s right leg.”

The 6-foot-10, 230-pound Isaac has played in 32 games this season for the Magic, starting all 32, and has been a bright-spot for the team, especially due to his defensive ability. His season average is 12.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, a team-high 2.44 blocks. and a team-high 1.56 steals. in 29.7 minutes per game.

Through yesterday’s games, Isaac has a higher total of blocks plus steals than any player in the league.

The Orlando Magic have signed rookie forward Jonathan Isaac to his NBA rookie contract, President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman announced today.

Isaac (6’10”, 210, 10/3/97) was selected in the first round (sixth overall) of NBA Draft 2017. He played and started in 32 games last season (2016-17) as a freshman at Florida State University, averaging 12.0 ppg., 7.8 rpg., 1.2 apg., 1.53 blkpg. and 1.16 stlpg. in 26.2 minpg., while shooting .508 (130-256) from the floor, .348 (31-89) from three-point range and .780 (92-118) from the free throw line.

Isaac led the Seminoles in rebounding and blocked shots, while finishing second in scoring and steals. He was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team and earned All-ACC Honorable Mention honors. Isaac’s 7.8 rebounds per game set a school record for a freshman and were the most among all freshmen in the ACC in 2016-17. He was named the ACC Rookie of the Week twice (Nov. 21, Jan. 23) and helped Florida State notch 26 wins, one shy of the school record, including 12 in conference play, which tied the school record for most ACC wins in a season.

In 2015-16, Isaac played for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., averaging 17.6 ppg. and 10.0 rpg., while shooting .510 from the floor. He competed in the Jordan Brand All-American Game (eight points, six rebounds and one block in 18 minutes) and was also a member of the USA Basketball Junior National Select Team that faced the World Select Team at the Nike Hoop Summit (seven points and four rebounds). Isaac also attended the International School in Hollywood, Fla., for two seasons (2013-15). He averaged 29.5 ppg. and 9.0 rpg. in 2014-15.
