Kings forward Trey Lyles suspended, Bucks center Brook Lopez fined

Sacramento Kings forward Trey Lyles has been suspended one game without pay and Milwaukee Bucks center Brook Lopez has been fined $25,000 for their roles in an on-court altercation, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.

The incident began when Lyles fouled and then pushed Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo in the back. Lopez escalated the situation by confronting Lyles. Lyles further escalated the situation by striking Lopez in the face and grabbing and holding Lopez around the neck area.

The incident, for which Lyles was assessed two technical fouls and ejected and for which Lopez was assessed one technical foul and ejected, occurred with 15.4 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of the Bucks’ 133-124 win over the Kings on Mar. 13 at Golden 1 Center.

Lyles will serve his suspension on Wednesday, March 15 when the Kings play the Chicago Bulls at United Center.

Nets put up good effort in loss to Bucks

Despite sitting most of their starters, the Nets came close to swiping a win against the mighty Bucks.

Almost.

Via the NY Post:

They nearly overcame their worst shooting drought in a decade, rallying from a huge hole before losing 118-113 to the league-leading Bucks at Fiserv Forum.

After they had won their last three games by double digits, the Nets played without starters Nic Claxton, Spencer Dinwiddie and Cam Johnson, as well as minutes leader Royce O’Neale.

The threadbare lineup went nearly 5 ½ minutes without a basket in the first quarter, essentially giving the game away there and never catching the Bucks (48-18).

The Nets (37-29) missed 15 straight shots — with a shot-clock violation thrown in for good measure — to turn an early eight-point lead into an 11-point first-quarter deficit.

Bucks sign Lindell Wigginton to Two-Way contract

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed Lindell Wigginton to a Two-Way contract.

A 6-1 guard, Wigginton has played in 35 games (18 starts) with the Wisconsin Herd this season and is averaging 18.6 points, 5.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds in 33.5 minutes per game. This is Wigginton’s second stint with the Bucks after he appeared in 19 games with the team last season while on a Two-Way contract. In those 19 games, the Iowa State product averaged 4.2 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 10.5 minutes of action.

After going undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft, Wigginton has played in 117 NBA G League games over the last four seasons, including 60 games (36 starts) with the Herd since 2020. The 24-year-old also played professionally in both Israel and Canada.

Milwaukee’s roster is now at 17 players.

Bucks sign Goran Dragic

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed Goran Dragić.

A 6-3 guard, Dragić has played in 939 games (530 starts) over the past 15 seasons with Phoenix, Houston, Miami, Toronto, Brooklyn and Chicago and holds career NBA averages of 13.3 points, 4.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 27.2 minutes per game. The 36-year-old began this season with the Bulls where he averaged 6.4 points, 2.7 assists and 1.4 rebounds in 15.4 minutes across 51 games before being waived on Feb. 28.

Originally selected with the 45th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, Dragić has also seen action in 60 playoff games throughout his career and was a 2018 NBA All-Star with the Heat. A native of Slovenia, Dragić was named the league’s Most Improved Player and selected to the All-NBA Third Team following the 2013-14 season with the Suns.

Dragić will wear number 31 with the Bucks. Milwaukee’s roster is now at 16 players.

Bucks waive Sandro Mamukelashvili

The Milwaukee Bucks have requested waivers on Two-Way forward Sandro Mamukelashvili.

Mamukelashvili appeared in 65 games with the Bucks over the last two seasons while on a Two-Way contract and averaged 3.2 points and 2.1 rebounds in 9.6 minutes per game. Originally selected with the 54th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Mamukelashvili also played in 30 games (23 starts) with the Wisconsin Herd over the past two seasons where he averaged 20.5 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

As part of the trade, the Pacers sent the draft rights to Juan Pablo Vaulet to Brooklyn.

In related moves, the team waived center Goga Bitadze, and forwards James Johnson and Terry Taylor.

Timberwolves set to face the 7-0 Bucks tonight

The 4-4 Timberwolves face the 7-0 Bucks tonight. Via the Minneapolis Star Tribune:

With two days off between their games against Phoenix and Milwaukee, the Timberwolves were able to get in a practice Thursday, and coach Chris Finch said the Wolves’ primary focus was in one area.

“Ball movement,” Finch said. “… Pretty much all we did was ball movement stuff.”

Anyone who has watched the Wolves over the last week can see this is one of the biggest issues they have. There is plenty of standing around, dribbling and isolation offense.

Their hope to improve on offense won’t get any easier on Friday night when unbeaten Milwaukee visits Minnesota and brings to town the No. 1 most-efficient defense in the league. The Bucks are allowing 101.3 points per 100 possessions, three points better than the next best team — the Lakers — entering Thursday.

The Wolves have the 23rd-rated offense (109.9).
