The Boston Globe (Peter May) reports: Phoenix coach Mike D’Antoni often wonders why the name Manu Ginobili doesn’t surface when the topic concerns today’s great swingmen. “If you were picking a small forward or a big guard for your team, he’s got to be one of the top five that you’d be talking about,” D’Antoni said. “I mean, look at what he’s done. Three [NBA] championships. An Olympic gold medal. And yet he doesn’t even make the All-Star team. I don’t know if you mention him in the same sentence with the real greats, but if this is about winning, then what he has done is unbelievable. I don’t think we put enough of a premium on that. I think he’s one of the best players in the league.”

Mar. 28: Spurs 99, Wolves 84
The AP reports: Manu Ginobili scored 16 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter and the San Antonio Spurs picked up their sixth straight win with a 99-84 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday… Tony Parker added 18 points for the Spurs and Tim Duncan had 12 points and 14 rebounds. Ryan Gomes led the Timberwolves with 17 points and Al Jefferson added 14. Reserve Rashad McCants scored 13. Michael Finley, who is averaging better than 18 points in his last three games, joined the Spurs’ Big Three, scoring 16.
Mar. 26: Spurs 97, Clippers 88
The AP reports: The Spurs withstood a late Clippers rally before they racked up their fifth straight win with a 97-88 victory… Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 26 points and 12 rebounds to close out the last of six back-to-backs the team played this month… Corey Maggette scored 22 points for Los Angeles, which has lost nine in a row and is out of playoff contention. Al Thornton added 21 points and nine rebounds and Chris Kaman, back after a nine-game absence with a sore lower back, scored 16… Michael Finley added 16 points for the Spurs, and Manu Ginobili scored 13.
Mar. 25: Spurs 107, Magic 97
The AP reports: Manu Ginobili scored 28 points and Michael Finley added 24 as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Orlando Magic 107-97 on Tuesday night for their fourth straight win. Dwight Howard had 24 points and 21 rebounds, his eighth game this season with at least 20 in both categories. Rashard Lewis added 24, Keyon Dooling 19 and Carlos Arroyo 17. Tim Duncan had 19 points and 15 rebounds for San Antonio. Orlando was short-handed after losing starters Hedo Turkoglu and Jameer Nelson in the first half. Nelson left with a bruised jaw after apparently running into Howard, while Turkoglu sprained his right wrist.
Nowitzki hurt as Spurs beat Mavs
The AP reports: Dirk Nowitzki was injured on an ugly looking fall in the third quarter of Dallas’ 88-81 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday, but left the arena without knowing how bad it is. The team termed it a “lower left leg injury” and said more details would come Monday. “I fell awkwardly and my left leg got caught underneath of me,” Nowitzki said in a statement. “I am going to get re-evaluated in the morning and I hope to have more information then.” Nowitzki went down after running and jumping to block a shot late in the third quarter. With Nowitzki writhing on the court, Tim Duncan grabbed the loose ball and scored, putting San Antonio ahead for the first time in the second half. It came during a 19-0 run that took the Spurs from 12 points down to in control the rest of the way.
Dirk Nowitzki hurts left leg and ankle
The Spurs and Mavericks are playing in Dallas on national ABC television and just as I flipped it on, Ime Udoka (not Tony Parker) went up for a layup from the right side, Dirk Nowitzki jumped trying to block it, landed strangely and appeared to be in serious pain while lying on the floor, clutching the lower part of his left leg, either the ankle or possibly just above it.
And now he’s being helped off the court into the locker room area by two teammates.
Update: ABC says it’s a ‘leg and ankle’ injury, and an X-Ray has been taken but the results aren’t in yet.
4:26 p.m. ET update from the Mavericks: In today’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, Dirk Nowitzki suffered an injury to his lower left leg at the 3:19 mark in the third period. The injury occurred when Nowitzki got tangled up with the Spurs’ Ime Udoka after blocking his shot. He did not return to the game. Nowitzki will be reevaluated on Monday, March 24. “I fell awkwardly and my left leg got caught underneath of me,” Nowitzki said. “I am going to get reevaluated in the morning and I hope to have more information then.”
Bruce Bowen suspended for kicking Chris Paul
Bruce Bowen of the San Antonio Spurs has been suspended one game without pay for striking Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets with his leg, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.
The incident occurred following a foul call on Paul with 5:15 remaining in the third period of the Spurs’ 100-75 loss to the Hornets on Wednesday, March 12 at New Orleans Arena.
Bowen will serve his suspension tonight when the Spurs visit the Detroit Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Ime Udoka out until March 17
The San Antonio Spurs today announced that Ime Udoka returned to San Antonio this morning due to tarsal tunnel syndrome in his right ankle. Udoka received anti-inflammatory shots today which are designed to decrease the inflammation in the ankle.
Udoka will miss the remaining two games on the Spurs current three-game road trip. He is expected to be available when the Spurs return home to take on the Boston Celtics on Monday, March 17.
Suns may want Brent Barry from Sonics
The East Valley Tribune (Scott Bordow) reports: The Suns may not be done wheeling and dealing. A team source said that Phoenix would like to find a way to acquire veteran sharpshooter Brent Barry, who was traded Wednesday from the San Antonio Spurs to the Seattle SuperSonics. For Barry to become a Sun, the Sonics would have to buy out his contract, the source said.
Ron Artest may stay
New York Newsday (Ken Berger) reports: So much for the Spurs’ interest in Ron Artest, which created some buzz this afternoon but fizzled with the Thomas deal. Artest had been rumored to be going to San Antonio for Elson and Barry. No dice. Other than that, a person close to Artest says things are quiet. Clearly, though, he has to get out of Sacramento and the Kings have to get him out of there.
