Rodney Stuckey: Shadows of a Young Chauncey?
Jul 29th, 2007 by the.pistons.fan
Rodney Stuckey came out of the Vegas Summer League evoking memories of a more senior Pistons guard; Chauncey Billups.
Chauncey and Rodney were tagged as “combo” guards coming in as rookies. I assume the Pistons want to develop him from a combo guard into a full time point. Chauncey made the same adjustment before finding success in the NBA.
I can’t think of a better mentor for a young prospect like Rodney than Mr. Bigshot. He’s cool and collected both on the court and in the locker room. Hopefully that attitude and poise will rub off on Rodney. Good decision-making added to Rodney’s repitoire of offensive skills would leave Detroit’s PG position of the future in very good hands.
Yes, Rodney Stuckey will in a few years learning from Chauncey Billups be a more dangerous point guard and the best in the league. For now, Rodney must practice sprint to outpace and outhustle Tony Parker and Leandoro Barbosa.
The Pistons should give Rodney his first baptism of fire, by putting him in the game for a good 15 minutes and see how he handles pressure and the situation. Let him play the point guard.
Stuckey is in a perfect situation, ’cause the Pistons now recognize the need for good bench players to spell their starters. By the time Stuckey will be ready for a starter’s role, Billups should be almost ready to step down.
Rod Stuckey was one of the best in ‘Vegas !!! he’ll be a grrreat back up to Chauncy [as will Aaron Afflalo to Rip Hamilton] & be a part of a stellar backcourt that Detroit now possesses after making such good selections in the draft !!! ‘da Pistons are set in the backcourt for a good, long time… now, if they could trade Rasheed for a scoring small forward to back up Tayshaun Prince & allow Jason Maxiel & Amir Johnson more playing time- they would be regenerated & ready to continue to rule the Eastern Conference !!! Go Pistons !!!
Hey Bo. I don’t think it is the right time to trade Sheed for a back-up SF for Prince because we now have KG in the east.
