I am starting a campaign to get Barea drafted in the first round. Although I would love for him to fall to my Hawks in the second round, I think that he is a first round talent and that if he wasn't a Latino he'd be mentioned with the Rondos, Foyes and Marcus Williamses of the world.
For those who aren't familiar with him he is the Point Guard from Northeastern University and is the Player of the year in the Colonial Athletic Association, the conference that brought you George Mason and 3 other postseason teams.
He scored 21 ppg in 2005-2006 and was second in the nation in assists at about 8.5 per game.
At the Portsmouth invitational he set the record for assists in a game with 18 and avg 13.5 assists per game....yet you hear nothing about him.
As a member of the Puerto Rican national team he dominated against the Rondos, and Marcus Williams.
He has his own website at http://www.gobarea.com
Why am I going to bat for Barea? Because I love the underdog, and as an alum of Georgia State University, I saw him basically dismantle us in a game this year. He is a good talent and should be in the discussion of good point guards coming out of college this year.
