The AP reports: Mario Chalmers made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Miami Heat a 96-93 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night in the final preseason game for both teams… Michael Beasley scored 19 points for Miami (2-5). Udonis Haslem added 18 on 8-of-10 shooting, and Daequan Cook had 17 points. Chalmers, 4-for-4 overall and 3-for-3 from 3-point range, had 11 points. Tony Parker led San Antonio (3-4) with 16 points.

Spurs waive three players
The San Antonio Spurs announced Thursday that they have waived guard/forward Devin Green, guard Salim Stoudamire and center Darryl Watkins.
Green appeared in four games during the preseason, averaging 7.0 points, 2.8 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 1.25 steals in 21.8 minutes per game.
Stoudamire played in two preseason games, averaging 5.5 points, 2.5 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 19.0 minutes of action.
Green saw action in five preseason games, averaging 3.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 15.0 minutes of action.
The Spurs roster now stands at 16.

Oct 22: Wizards 100, Spurs 95
The AP reports: Nick Young scored 15 points in his preseason debut to help the Washington Wizards beat the San Antonio Spurs 100-95 on Wednesday night… Washington also got 15 points in 23 minutes from Caron Butler, who has scored in double figures the past two games. The Spurs were led by Tim Duncan’s 20 points in 22 minutes. Duncan, who made 8-of-9 free throws, also grabbed eight rebounds… JaVale McGee, a 7-foot rookie out of Nevada taken with the 18th pick, finished 4-for-6 and hit his three free-throw tries to finish with 11 points.
Spurs waive Charles Gaines
The San Antonio Spurs announced today that they have waived forward Charles Gaines.
Gaines averaged 3.3 points in four preseason games for San Antonio.
The Spurs roster stands at 19. Four more cuts to go to get to a full, 15-man roster.
Oct 18: Spurs 106, Pacers 98
The AP reports: Tony Parker had 19 points and eight assists in 23 minutes, and the San Antonio Spurs beat the Indiana Pacers 106-98 in a preseason game Saturday night. Matt Bonner, starting in place of the resting Tim Duncan, scored 15 points and Michael Finley added 13 on 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point territory for the Spurs (3-2). Marquis Daniels led Indiana (3-3) with 18 points, going 4-of-6 from behind the arc… Troy Murphy, playing for the first time this preseason after missing the first five games with a sore left foot, scored 12 points in 19 minutes while shooting 5-of-7.
Oct 16: Spurs 91, Cavs 70
The AP reports: Tim Duncan had 16 points and 13 rebounds in 26 minutes and the San Antonio Spurs beat Cleveland 91-70 on Thursday night, dropping the Cavaliers to 0-4 in exhibition play. Matt Bonner added 15 points, going 3-for-3 from 3-point range and 6-for-7 overall from the field, for the Spurs (2-2). Tony Parker had 14 points and five assists after missing the Spurs’ game Tuesday night against Detroit because of a sore left Achilles’ tendon. He played 17 minutes in the first half, then sat out the second half… LeBron James scored six points in 17 first-half minutes for the Cavaliers. He had two rebounds, five assists and a blocked shot.
Avery Johnson joins ESPN
Former NBA point guard and head coach Avery Johnson has also joined ESPN as an NBA studio analyst, mainly joining host Stuart Scott and analyst Bill Walton on ESPN’s NBA Shootaround pregame show throughout the season and postseason. Johnson, who contributed to ESPN’s NBA Playoff coverage earlier this year, will also contribute at times to ABC’s GMC NBA Countdown.
“Avery has excelled in every professional endeavor and we know his success will carry over to his on-air role,” said Norby Williamson, ESPN executive vice president, production. “His experience and passion for the game will resonate with our fans.”
“I’m excited to join the ESPN family of networks and, specifically, to join the NBA broadcast team,” said Johnson. “ESPN and ABC has an abundance of terrific talent and I’m glad to launch my career in broadcasting with the premiere sports network.”
Johnson most recently served as coach of the Dallas Mavericks (2004-08), guiding the franchise to a .735 winning percentage (194-70). His team advanced to the Finals in 2006 and Johnson was rewarded with NBA Coach of the Year recognition. During the 2007 season, Johnson became the fastest coach to reach 150 wins.
Johnson, an NBA champion with the San Antonio Spurs in 1999, had a 16-year NBA career including time with the Seattle SuperSonics (1988-90), Denver Nuggets (1990-91; 2001-02), Spurs (1991, 1992-93, 1994-2001), Houston Rockets (1992), Golden State Warriors (1993-94, 2003-04) and Dallas Mavericks (2002-03). Johnson earned the NBA Sportsmanship Award in 1998.
Oct 14: Spurs 86, Pistons 64
The AP reports: Desmon Farmer scored 13 points while Tim Duncan had 10 points and eight rebounds to lead the San Antonio Spurs to an 86-64 preseason victory over the Pistons on Tuesday night. The Pistons shot just 27.8 percent (22-of-79) from the field. It was the first win of the preseason for the Spurs (1-2) and the first loss for the Pistons (4-1)… “Just look at the guys we have, we definitely have a good shooting team,” said Detroit’s Rasheed Wallace, who missed all seven of his field goal attempts… Will Bynum led the Pistons with 10 points and Jason Maxiell had eight rebounds.
Oct 10: Hornets 89, Spurs 84
The AP reports: Reserve Mike James scored 18 points while Tyson Chandler added 14 on 7-of-9 shooting and New Orleans beat the Spurs 89-84 in a preseason game Friday night… The Spurs were led by strong efforts in limited playing time from Tim Duncan and Tony Parker. Playing only the first half, Duncan scored 12 points in 18 minutes and Parker added 10 points in 15 minutes. Combined they were 9-of-16 from the field… Chris Paul had seven assists to go with 4-of-7 shooting and finished with nine points.
