Celtics/Wolves Trade
Do you agree or disagree with last seasons trade of Marcus Banks, Ricky Davis and Mark Blount for Wally Szczerbiak, and Michael Olawakandi? Why/Why not?
|
Hated it then, hate it now. I like that we moved Mark but we could've put him in a different deal without downgrading Ricky to Wally.

A different take
That's funny. As a Timberwolves fan, I think we could have done a lot better than getting Ricky Davis for Wally. Honestly, the most effective player we received in that deal was Justin Reed. Ricky Davis puts up numbers, but he doesn't seem to help win games. Or to put it in a way that a Celtics fan can truly understand, he's what A-Rod is to baseball, just less productive.

Ricky makes half as much as Wally while being better at everything but jumpshooting. I don't know what Ricky could have done to help Minnie win more games but I'm pretty sure that the T-Wolves didn't win much before he got there either. Ricky was a definite positive for us in Doc's first year, hitting a number of game-winners and providing all-around great play off the bench. Forced to play 42 minutes and share pg duties his d suffered a bit during his time with us this season but he still had a fine season overall...and I don't agree with you that A-Rod doesn't help to win games. He isn't clutch, but that doesn't mean his homers and RBIs don't count. I don't see how he compares to Ricky, in any case...completely different stature and reputation.

this trade totally sucks!!!
one of the few trades that make both teams involved worse. the other trades were from NY Without Wally KG isn't producing! they run offense totally through KG, when he can't produce, there isn't a right hand man to help him, Davis (Ricky) isn't producing well enough Wally is not suited for Boston, they run a totally different pace of offence compared to the T-wolves, Pierce is taking care of all the outside work and some of the inside offence, wally compared to Pierce is not a as good shooter, so he won't be getting the shots he want! Plus Boston has up and coming stars like Gerald Green and Tony Allen, so if they want Wally to come off the bench for Pierce, he's not gonna produce as much as Davis in the starting lineup! |
Dont really like it. Ricky = Wally at half the cost. Losing Banks hurt, but I guess that was the price to dump Blount. Overall though, not a good trade.

The trade has two positives for us, basically: A first rounder is headed our way and we got rid of Mark, whose very presence had become an irritant. And Wally at least has a good attitude, although he can't fully replace Slick. But overall this deal didn't have me particularly enthused...not awful, but not great.

What year do we get that pick? Is it protected?

My thoughts exactly. Timberwolves ripped the Celtics off IMO. |
but we lost justin reed! does no one care about justin reed?
|
Reed was OK but it was a logjam issue, and trading him helped get Gomes lots of pt.

yeh i guess it did give gomes a chance to shine along with the al injury, i cant help but feel like banks might turn out to be sick in a couple of years

It was a good trade to get rid of Mark Blount, dude was an overpaid pebble in Celtics shoe. terribel swap of Ricky D for Wally. I don't have anything direct against Wally, but he isn't the compliment to Pierce that Davis was. And that is what we should be all about now. Complimenting Pierce and nuturing the few standout kids we have to be a East contender in 2 / 3 years time, for when Pierce will be at the end of his prime. If we don't do this, we will be wasting Pierce's best years.
