I'm not sure if it was in the states or overseas, but it was a formula one race in either the 1970's or early 1980's. A driver spun out, and his teammate stopped to check on him [why, I have no idea], while he was crossing the road, another driver hit him straight on, completely shredding his body, basically cutting it into two pieces. The heavy pieces of his body hit the driver head on and also killed the driver as well.
The video is almost unwatchable.
video or it didnt happen

Is this what you're talking about pete'smontreux? A guy runs across the track and basically gets shredded in the vid.

Can someone also translate the bolded?
From his position behind Stuck, Pryce could not see Van Vuuren and was unable to react as fast as Stuck. He struck the teenage marshal at approximately 170 mph. Van Vuuren was thrown into the air and landed yards in front of Zorzi and Bill. He died upon impact with Pryce's car.[39] The fire extinguisher smashed into Pryce's head, before striking the Shadow's roll hoop, which threw it over the adjacent grandstand. It came to earth in the car park to the rear of the stand, where it hit a parked car and jammed its door shut
WTF? What the hell is "shadow's roll hoop", and how did the extinguisher hit that? Someone translate that knows this jargon.

The roll hoop is the roll cage behind the driver's head. It hit the roll cage, and flew over the grandstand, landing on a parked car's door jamming it shut.
