On Yao: out for next season is likeliest scenario now. Wants to get his body right before continuing and will do whatever that takes.

    Ric Bucher Twitter
Eddy Curry getting ready to pack his bags to Houston. It's inevitable now.

Honestly, I don't care. He doesn't have much of a legacy. He's always hurt as it is ... and he's been a career overhyped player, and has never lived up to his intial billing.

I think he has lived up to what people realistically thought he could be. I don't think anybody really actually believed him to be the 'next Olajuwon'. Medically speaking, most people should have figured out he wasn't going to be the fastest most athletic guy and wasn't going to run and jump much and knew his body would be frail. THey knew he could be a team which they could possibly [and came pretty close to] building around for a perennial playoff team. They did, they took risks with people like McGrady and that just didn't work out, whomever's fault it may be. Yao was injured, McGrady was, and that's just part of the luck of drafting anybody.

I think his legacy won't be nearly as much as a player, but more so a global icon and a good advertising ploy and the first *really good* player to come from Eastern Asia. He brought NBA to the people of China, and he did that very well. Now it's one of their more popular [at least most than it was before Yao came into the league] sports there and he did that successfully.

This really sucks. Yao's a great guy and he doesn't deserve to have his career go down like this. His Game 1 heroics in the WCSF was one of the best moments of the entire 2009 playoffs. If he could have given them maybe another game or two, they probably would have taken that series. This playoffs, I really came to love this Houston team and I looked forward to seeing what they could do next year barring injuries. I really hope this may be only speculation and possibly someone jumping the gun a bit, but it looks like all the constant pounding he takes every season, combined with playing for China every summer finally took it's toll on him.
