What are your rules on on them being an 'instrumentalist'? They have to be either consistently credited on their records(studio) or do they have to frequently perform live or both Or is it simply up to your discretion?

Stevie Wonder plays the piano, but he goes uncredited for playing the harmonica.

Prince performs with a guitar, but doesn't play guitar on his albums.

R&B has a tradition(especially after the 60's) for being more vocals oriented although some have classical/church training ,but it sometimes takes a backseat to their great vocals/performing.

Jimi Hendrix started out as a Blues/R&B musician ,but could not hack it as a soloist because he was an awful singer/songstylist.

If an artist is known to play an instrument, it makes the song better.

We're basically judging on the best song, obviously a song with maybe 2 good vocalists, 2 dancers(mainly), a 50's songwriter, and a mediocre backing band without their leader.

So basically dont throw Curtis Mayfield on a track with T-Pain.
