MVP = best player on best team....right now that would be Rodgers unless they lose tomorrow night...

    DPOY is Mathews...

Green Bay has both the MVP and DPOY...

wonder if a single team has ever won both of those before...

MVP being the best player on best team is not something I buy into.

It has just worked out that arguably the best player has won it the majority of the time...and they played on a winning team.

Peyton the last two years.... Brady in his monster year....Tominson in his prime before that....Alexander in his monster year...and Mannings monster year before that.

It just so happened that the best player in the league, or the ones who put up monster stats for those years, were the ones who got the award.

Unless Rodgers comes out and has an absolute amazing performance tomorrow, his play hasn't garnered MVP honors thus far, no matter if his team has 1 more win than someone else.

Another add to the honorable mention list. [homer]Brandon Flowers[/homer]. He has played some great ball this year.

I was going to mention him but couldn't put him above any of those premier pass rushers.

no that isn't some strange coincedence...Chris Johnson has no MVP for a reason...

it is always best player/best team...the player HAS to be at least be on what could be argueably "the best"...

if you're not in the playoff hunt, you have no shot at MVP...

ALSO...there is NO CHANCE IN HELL of Vick winning that thing even if he smashes all records and Eagles win out...they aren't giving it to him

if this is just a "who I think the best" list is then alrighty...but if you are trying to rank people that have a legit shot at MVP, then Peterson and Vick and Rivers should be left out...at least for now...

if this was NFL voting (assuming GB wins tomorrow) it would be like:

    1. Rodgers
    2. Manning
    3. Brees
    4. Foster
    5. Mendenhall

    something like that...

Chris Johnson didn't win it last year because the difference between an 8-8 team and an undefated team when their quarterback played start to finish is too big of a gap.

Right now the biggest difference between any candidate on my list is going to be two wins, which isn't a big enough gap to warrent anything really.

I like Rodgers as much as the next guy, but anyone who has watched him play thus far, assuming he plays decent tomorrow and moves his team to 3-0.....wouldn't say he's the MVP of the league. His play has been below his standards thus far.

sigh...okay, if you want to make believe that CJ's team had nothing to do with it then fine, but I am telling you now, the winner of that award WILL go to who is perceived and that best player on the best team...

the year before last Peyton won it also, guess who broke the record for most passing yards in a year with 5069?...Drew Brees, who unfortunately was on a losing team at the time...

Brees killed Peyton in all stats that year...Peyton was just on the best team at the time...

"IF" the Packers finish the year with the best record, unless someone rushes for 2,500 yards, Rodgers IS going to win MVP, regardless of his stats...unless Rodgers sucks and they just get there on that defense, but that is very unlikely...

You don't have to be on the best team to win MVP. As long as your team is good(playoffs), you are in the running.

I think is has to be argueably the best...like at least 12-4 record...

it has been "the best" for like the past 7 years and then you get to 2003 and Peyton and McNair split the award (so stupid) and both teams were 12-4...

you can't be like some scrub ass 10-6 wild card team...

some years the 'best team" isn't that clear cut...but when it is the best player on that team gets it...

regardless, we KNOW you can't get it on a losing team...

in 1997, Barry Sanders and Brett Favre split MVP...

the Packers went 13-3 (best in the NFL)

the Lions were a 9-7 Wild Card team...Barry went 2,000 that year

that is the worst team I can find so far...and he still had to split the award with the best team's player

It really depends on the situation. The only real requirement is that you are on a playoff team. You don't necessarily have to be on the best team, but it definitely doesn't hurt.

Polamalu is a beast, him being healthy instantly makes Steelers D as good as ever.
